I had a warm welcome where I was greeted by the Manager for the monthly welcome drinks. I used the spa despite getting in late and the young lady on the desk was encouraging and advised I had lots of time and not to rush, which is nice! My meal was delicious and the bar staff provided me with a tray so that I could eat in my room - it was just 9.20 and the restaurant was closing. I was given a free upgrade at no extra charge as I have fear of staying on the ground floor and as a lone traveler I wanted to feel safe. All round, it was a lovely experience and it exceeded my expectations, although I have stayed in a Hallmark Hotel previously, it just had an edge on previous stays. The only down was the following morning for breakfast, I was ignored whilst waiting to be seated by one young lady, who then proceeded to try and remove elements of the breakfast whilst I was making my selection. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay.

The hotel is looking very tired and our room was dirty. The carpet was stained and the bathroom was mouldy in areas. The breakfast was also disappointing, pastries dry and the tea weak. Sausages cheap and fatty bacon.

I arrived at the hotel with my daughter after booking a twin room using booking. com. The reception staff advised there was only a double and family room left. I was disappointed but Molly ( the receptionist) allowed me to look at both rooms to a make a decision. She was amazing. She gave us drinks tokens for the inconvenience caused and continued to provide a fantastic service during our stay! It was very much appreciated. The bar area is lovely, the breakfast yummy and the room was clean and well presented. I would have no hesitation recommended this hotel to others.

lack of visible staff and poor restaurant service

On numerous occasions there were no staff on either the reception desk or in the bar. It gives a bad impression. I had to ask a receptionist to get a barman in order to order food. An half-eaten plate of breakfast was left all morning in the corridor near my room - I had to ask a receptionist to have it removed. I booked a table for dinner on Thursday 29th. It was too close to a speaker playing music that was far too loud. I asked for a table in the bar area. I then had to ask twice for the table to be cleaned. When the meal arrived, the waitress forgot to bring cutlery. She also forgot my drinks order. I mentioned this to Ellis at the restaurant reception and he dealt with the complaint in a very professional manner. However, I had a similar experience when I stayed at your hotel last year., lack of staff and poor restaurant service.

As I indicated when we visited the hotel last March 2019, a lot of good things have been replaced by not so good things, especially in the catering department. This time, 5 months later things got worse. Breakfast, which was always the highlight of our stay has really gone down. First morning of our stay the breakfast was terrible. The Bacon was old and discoloured. I couldn't eat it and left it in my plate. All the young new servers are totally inexperienced. As an example they never watch what food if left in the serving plates, for example the fried eggs finished, and I had to ask several times different waiters and waitresses to replenish the plated with fried eggs. On one occasion I had to wait standing near the hot food bar, more than 10 minutes before the new plate of eggs appeared. They keep going in and out of the kitchen, but they do not have the sense to look what items are going or have gone down. Same story with the tray of croissants. I must point out that we have been staying in this hotel over 25 years, well before it became part of the Accor group. The quality of the products has really gone down. The croissants are no longer buttery as before and tastes really bland. Before the butter provided was coming from Normandy in France. The butter served now is of the cheapest English butter completely tasteless. These are some examples (by no means all) describing the worsening quality of the food. I understand that there is a new Food and Beverages manager. If so, he is doing a very good job in alienating the good and old customers. In the reception most of the girls are new and not very welcoming as in the past. One of them (I will not mention her name), borders to being rude. If this deterioration continues I will in the near future start looking for another hotel in Exeter. I hope that my review is constructive, as we are very much fond of this hotel, otherwise we would not have been coming for over 25 years.

The keys didn't work and at 3am we had to come back down to reception to sort that out. The lady at breakfast wasn't serving us coffee, although she said she would, and there were no cups on our table for us to get our own coffee. There was a lack of eye contact from staff at breakfast, so we couldn't ask easily. The beds were very comfy, the room not hot. £12 for parking overnight is a bit much!

Most important, the staff were friendly and helpful. It is good to have a well furnished lounge area. The dining room again has a pleasant environment. Breakfast was also good. The room was comfortable with all the space and facilities that we needed. There were a couple of minor things. We were at first directed to a room with an unmade bed and were allocated another room when we returned to reception. The was some wall paint on the bathroom side of the bed which was about to flake off. Also some flaking in the bathroom at floor level by the door. Perhaps it was getting near redecoration time.

Satisfactory stay, good reception staff and clean room. Central location and car parking a bonus. However even with upgrade to privilege room there was a tiredness about the hotel compared with previous stays, the reduced range of meals in the restaurant, carpets showing ware, towels rather thin.

A very pleasant overnight stay meeting family. The room was fine although we would have preferred to be asked if we were happy to occupy a 'disabled' room where there was a 'wet room ' instead of the usual bath/shower. The towels had also seen better days and needed to be replaced. I was surprised to note the stairs carpet was badly worn and in need of rescement

I stayed in a spacious family room, with fridge, safe, iron etc. The bed was very comfortable, and the bath and shower efficient, powerful ad easy to use. The breakfast was lovely. The reception team and restaurant team were friendly, efficient and professional. My only complaint is that the parking isn't included for residents. and is £12 per night.

The housekeeping staff were very friendly. The reception staff not too helpful and didn't answer phone when we rang to say we would be late checking in. The breakfast was very disappointing, dry and overcooked. The cheese was curled up and dry and the meat selection was poor.
