Reasonably priced and adequately equipped room. Had booked room with 3 single beds but was given room with one large double and one single. This would have been ok but duvet not large or warm enough. Cold for most of the night. Towels for only 2 people provided but did give another set when asked. Staff did not ask how we found the room and seemed too busy on desk to give time. Perhaps hotel needs more staff. Spa ok but could have been cleaner.

I was a little disappointed with the room. Things like the bedside tables and chairs and table seemed a little cheap. While the floor area was large the design of the room felt wrong so you did not get the feeling of space.

We've stayed here previously, and that stay was fine - however our night here this week was fraught with issues: - No priority check-in desk for Le Club members. This is a standard service in all AccorHotels (including many ibis hotels) and I was shocked that for such a hotel as the 4-star Mercure Cardiff Holland House this wasn't available. As a Gold member who had checked in online to avoid the queues I was disappointed to have to wait behind 2 large groups; especially as there was a member of staff slouched over the laptop at the desk who could quite easily have offered to check us in (didn't catch her name sadly). Maria saved the day slightly when she appeared from the back-office to check us in - she was very friendly and welcoming. - We were pleased to have been upgraded to a privilege room, however annoyed to discover that the toilet had not been cleaned properly, with evidence of the previous guest disgustingly sat in the bowl. - We also found that the coffee machine was broken; the plastic bits that were supposed to hold the drip tray level were snapped meaning that the machine couldn't be used properly. We managed to prop some bits and bobs underneath the tray to keep it up, but in a privilege room (or indeed any room) we shouldn't have to be doing this. - The heating/cooling in the room didn't seem to be functioning properly; we had it set on 17 degrees but the room remained boiling. When I mentioned this to the lady at reception (same lady who had ignored the long line of guests at check-in) she was sarcastic and unbothered. Nonetheless, when we returned that evening we found that the panel had been adjusted and the room was cooler. - We made use of the pool, but apparently unsupervised kids ruled the roost whilst jumping in and out of the pool, darting across the lanes and running between the steam room and the sauna. The jacuzzi wasn't working as the buttons were stuck. We tried over 10 lockers before we found one that had a working lock. - The welcome note inside our room mentioned a "complimentary soft mini-bar", but didn't actually say what inside the mini-bar was available for free. At around midnight, we rang down to reception to ask, but whoever answered the phone simply stated that he didn't know, and that we would have to wait for the duty manager to return so that he could ask them. 5 minutes later, he called back and stated "If you want to use your free drink voucher on the mini-bar that's fine." We pointed out that this wasn't at all what we'd asked, and repeated the request to know what was complimentary in the mini-bar. He replied "just the water". If this is the case, I feel that to call it a "complimentary soft mini-bar" is misleading and should be corrected. Alternatively, train your staff properly. - We had pre-booked breakfast and arrived downstairs at around 9am, and having stayed at many Mercure hotels we are used to being showed to a table and offered tea or coffee. Neither of these things happened, with the waitress who took our room number simply saying "take a seat." This, to me, implied that she was going to come over and run through how the buffet worked and take an order - again this didn't happen. Other tables around us were offered teas/coffees and I'm still confused as to why we weren't. - The breakfast selection was disappointing, with no fresh cheeses/meats. Hot items seemed to be refreshed 1 individual item at a time - I watched for nearly 10 minutes as the breakfast chef placed 1 new fried egg in the tray each time they were taken by a guest. She seemed ill-prepared for the influx of around 8 guests meaning there was a long queue for each item to be refreshed. There was also nothing to state that alternate options to fried eggs were available - I would have preferred scrambled egg but until my partner told me that he hadn't received his poached eggs I didn't even know I could order something different. - My partner ordered poached eggs as he collected his hot food - 30 minutes later we left the restaurant having both eaten and were shocked that not only had the eggs not arrived, but that not one member of staff had come over to apologise for the delay or provide an explanation. - Having not been offered any hot drinks, we eventually worked out that a coffee machine was available towards the front of the restaurant. Whilst waiting to use the machine, the drip tray became full and so we altered a member of staff (male in a suit) who huffed and puffed about being pulled away from whatever he had been doing, before coming over to assist. As he did so, another guest approached the restaurant and he literally barked over at them "go and sit down, I will collect your room number when I am done." The guests were visibly shocked at how rude the gentleman sounded. - Having checked in online, I provided an up-to-date billing address as the one listed was incorrect (despite having changed it on my Le Club account many months previously). I was annoyed to receive my invoice after check out and see that my old address was still present in the top corner. The fast check out is supposed to make the experience hassle free, but it kind of defeats the object when I'm replying to the email asking for a detail such as the address to be corrected. We really enjoyed our stay last time but feel so let down by the service this time. We'd like to return, but if you can't even guarantee service comparable to an ibis hotel then we may as well stay elsewhere. I'd appreciate an explanation on why we experienced as many issues as we did.

My experience was very nice, the gym was great and I felt very relaxed. The staff was super friendly and the food was nice. Had the best night sleeps there than I usually have at home!

Very limited food choice for our evening meal which wasn’t greatly enjoyed. One spa treatment was incorrect and staff adamant she was not wrong so unwanted treatment received.

« No nearly as good as last time »

The lady on check in was lovely, polite and friendly, she gave us drinks to elevate our anniversary. The spa was ok but standards have fallen since this time last year, the relaxation room had empty glasses and bottles in and the candles were all removed as we were in there, we had the last treatment of the day and felt like we were a nuisance to the staff in the spa. The heating in the room did not work, we didn’t report this at the time, although I wish I had. We had a lovely note and chocolates in our room for our anniversary and the bathroom facilities were fantastic. We felt the fixed dinner menu was lacking choice and food was not as good as last year, would have been nice to have a choice of potatoes, not everything with mash, and it would have been nice to have some other vegetables too. The mushroom soup was bland. Overall we felt the hotel had gone downhill since our last stay and have decided we probably won’t be coming again.

We had stayed at the hotel for Christmas and it was fantastic then, so when our daughter arranged her son’s christening we had no problem at picking the hotel we would stay in for this special occasion. The staff throughout the hotel are all extremely helpful and friendly and the room is spacious with fantastic views (we watched the sun rising over Cardiff) and it was beautiful. The facilities are perfect and the food in the restaurant is so tasty I would be happy to go back there or recommend the hotel to family and friends.

I stayed at the hotel Friday - Sunday. Everyone was really helpful and kind. The breakfast and spa were lovely and so much choice of food. I’m gluten free and the restraint catered for me well. I told the hotel that it was my birthday weekend and they left something in the room for me which was so thoughtful and kind. We had a lovely stay - will definitely be staying here again next time we visit :)

« Initially very good up until the day we left where it went down hill. »

On arrival we were extremely lucky to find a car parking spot due to lack of parking. We were greater by the most helpful receptionist who was very help full. Unfortunately when going up to the room it took 15 mins for a lift that we could fit in to due to all the previous lifts being crammed full with people from events in. The room was clean and comfortable. The pool was lovely apart from being a bit to cold. When leaving it took 30-40 mins to get to the reception from the 7th floor due to there once again being no lifts and when one did turn up it decided not to move and stay stuck on the 7th floor which resulted in us having to lug all our bags down the stairs that only go to the second floor because the only other exit past that was fire exit doors. So then we had to wait even longer for lifts that were crammed full of people from the convention so it was nearly impossible to get in one. When checking out and reporting this back to the receptionist that was less than help full and didn’t care and just srugged her shoulders saying oh dear. Which left the weekend on a sour note.

Hotel and staff lovely-had asked for ice bucket and champagne flutes for room on arrival (were not there) as my boyfriend was celebrating his bday but extra touches in the room were v thoughtful. Dismayed I had to pay £24 to use your car park as a guest for 2 nights have complained about this via email as on top of staying at the hotel we also drank in the bar so an extra £20 was an added cost not anticipated. Such a shame

« Average »

Our room was very nice , good size and very clean however it was very cold throughout our stay and the room temperature did not seem to work. There was a Gaming convention at the hotel and it was extremely noisy and very overcrowded which we were not not made aware of at the time of booking . Seeing this was suppose to be a relaxing Spa break that did not bode well . The Spa are was adjoining the bar via a door and this was ware most of the noise on that day came from . Also sorry to say the swimming pool was very cold. A maid just opened our door without knocking and shouted did we order a pizza which was not very professional and she did not say sorry. The evening meal was Ok and breakfast good but all the other stuff let it down .

Everything was good from the cleanliness of the hotel to the spa facilities. Disappointed with mattress, was uncomfortable and there was only a small toilet roll in room not a new fresh one so ran out. Also only one towel so that was poor.

« Fantastic »

We loved the hotel and it’s facilities. The decor was lovely and the room was modern and spacious. The spa was brilliant too and all the staff were so friendly!! The only thing that we would mention would be a note on the website stating about the Comincon that was held in the hotel whilst we were staying. I think it would have been more considerate for the guests staying. It was quite overwhelming having 3,000 people dressed up in all sorts of strange outfits filling the lifts and the entrance.
