Disgusted

We are disgusted. My husband is a platinum Accor member and we booked this the day before the pre sale of Springsteen tickets. We booked this hotel as my husband is a blue badge holder and he needs a hotel car park. Got there to be told the hotel was over booked and we had been bounced out of the hotel and booked into the Park Plaza. We were told they had sent an email in April. No such email had arrived so they lied. We were told no points of either type would be awarded on Accor Loyalty and there was no such thing as a guaranteed booking. What an absolute pile of Pooh. On top of that all hotels in Cardiff were sold out the same day as presale tickets. So how come the mecure were able to rebook us last month into the Park Plaz There’s a lot of questions for mecure and Accor to answer here.

Avoid the food and use hotel as a base

The hotel boasts a convenient location, arrival impressive and the rooms are very spacious. That said there are flaws that would make me think twice about rebooking. 1) The restaurant- awful food, two course dinner was very limited on paper filthy menu, open canteen style (not very luxurious) and quality of food not good. 2) The spa - the treatment and relaxation rooms amazing. The pool area and downstairs facilities dirty, over crowded and not luxurious 3) The room - only complaint is it’s hotter than the sun. Air con didn’t work and windows don’t open 4) The Breakfast - paid extra for room service. I left half the breakfast, very cheap quality food

Beware additional charges and reception queue

Overall, my experience at the Mercure Hotel Cardiff was a mix of highs and lows. The bar area exuded a pleasant ambiance, perfect for unwinding after a long day. However, I was taken aback by the unexpected swimming pool charge of £10 per person per entry, which was not disclosed on the Mercure website. Additionally, the inconvenience of two out of four lifts being out of order was disappointing. On the brighter side, the hotel boasts a convenient location and the reception staff were friendly and helpful, despite the perpetual queues. However, the steep breakfast price of £16 per person might deter some guests (The Little Man Cafe is great - 10 minutes walk).

Good location. Nice room with brilliant air conditioning (privilege room). Fridge wasn’t cold at all though. Parking expensive, spa only small but adequate. We didn’t have to pay for passes as they were included in the package we had, before the policy changed, but only being allowed to go once a day isn’t ideal.
