Below is the text of an email sent to the hotel email H6… on 13 March So far (its now 3pm on 16 March), I have had no reply. The email seems to have been simply ignored. To the general manager, Mercure Cardiff, I am in room 911, 11-15 March. Its a good hotel, and I am impressed with the standard of care and cleanliness in the room that the housekeepers maintain, so please don't see this as a complaint - just a suggestion. Overnight (Sunday arrival to Monday return after a day's work), I'd used the soap just once or twice to wash my hands, had used a little shampoo, shower gel and body lotion. I was surprised to see that all 4 products had disappeared, to be replaced by new ones. Leave new ones for when I run out by all means, but what a waste - and environmentally a mistake, I think - to take away these hardly used products. Can I recommend, please, that the head of housekeeping instruct the maids not to throw away part used toiletries? Leave new ones, please, but don't get rid of the old ones. As usual the staff were pleasant and helpful however there were a number of issues that indicated a lessening of standards. The keys provided didn't operate so we had to return to reception to get them reprogrammed; it did not appear the bed had been changed as the bed sheets were creased and stained and we had to arranged for the bed to be changed; there was no milk in the room and we had to go to the restaurant to get some.

The staff were very welcoming, attentive and professional. The hotel and room was spacious and clean and very well appointed, and the bed very comfortable. The room temperature was ideal (which is most unusual in any hotel). On arrival there was an issue with the method of payment, but at no time was I made to feel awkward and a solution to the problem was quickly found. The only thing which was not quite right was that the shower could not be run as cool as I would have liked.

Excellent rooms and very well-serviced. Charming staff for whom nothing seemed too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent. I would hnave liked a wider choice in the evenings.

The roomnwas great and a good breakfast. My only problem was my car was covered in white paint caused by water coming through the ceiling in the car park. I pointed this out to the general manager who just said you shouldn't have parked there. There was no no parking signs for this specific space. My maserati has now got to be professionally valleted. I will be perusing this in compensation. I have pictures to back this up. Apart from this it was an enjoyable stay.

A pleasant and enjoyable stay. Well situated for city centre shopping area, theatres, railway station etc. And able to walk to most places. I particularly enjoyed the swimming pool, jacussi and steam room. Staff at hotel were very welcoming and helpful.

Spa side of stay was excellent, as it was the first time. However, on this occasion the room was very dusty, so much so that my daughter and I did nothing but sneeze and cough in the morning and we both had very sore throats. The kettle still had water in it, (I assume from the previous occupants use), but had still been placed in the wardrobe ready for the next occupants use, and one of the cups had a dried tea stain on it. The evening meal included in the package was also sadly disappointing. The set menu was quite limited, and to our dismay, was the same menu for both evenings. Had we been vegetarians, we would have had to have the same meal both evenings as there was only one vegetarian option for both starter and main. Had we been vegan, there would have been even less of a choice. After staying at other hotels, our most recent being the Hilton, they offer guests staying on a package deal the normal menu but, should they choose a fillet steak for example, the guest paid an additional £4.50 supplement. We have also stayed at other hotels, on a package deal where there were no supplements to be paid at all on any menu item. These options are something that perhaps this hotel group could consider. As a regular hotel user, I am sure it would be something appreciated by most guests. I would like to again say how excellent my spa treatments were. My therapist, Oriel, was very attentive and made my comfort and satisfaction her paramount concern. Well done to her on providing such excellent treatments!!

Welcoming staff and helpful, hotel in an ideal location and facilities were very good. However, the cleanliness of the rooms was an issue, as the room had not been vacuumed and there was dust everywhere. Also the treatment in the spa was not as advertised and the therapist was not helpful.

Staff wonderful, however facilities somewhat basic. The spa facilities were disappointing, the steam room was dirty and wasn't very steamy! The jacuzzi was also very dirty and had a large amount of grit and the bottom. We were also not provided with robes.

This is a beautiful hotel, The staff are so friendly and helpful, the food is fantastic and the bedrooms are really lovely and spacious. I did not get to use the Spa facilities but I will defiantly be booking soon for a return visit.

« Lovely stay over and spa night »

The room was very good , clean and spacious. The food options were ok , they did cook us the wrong meals when we were the only one's in the restaurant. Had a lovely hot stone spa treatment . There were no robes which was disappointing , especially after asking several times and were told "we will fetch you some". The relax room was full of dishes , they needed someone to check the rooms and perhaps clear up as the changing rooms could have done with a clean to. Pool area was a bit outdated compared to the rest of the hotel.

The hotel is very convenient for the town, which is good. I booked on-line because I wanted somewhere with parking - there was nothing to say that parking is "first come first served" , so I assumed there would be space for my car. After booking, I phoned the hotel to check for directions to the car park - I was given directions, but was not warned about the "first come first served" policy. When I arrived, the car park sign showed "full" so I phoned reception, and at this point was told about the "first come first served" policy. This was quite stressful for me, at the end of my journey; luckily I was able to find a space as someone was leaving. On the evening of the 12th (my second night) I noticed black smudges at the top of the duvet cover, luckily I was able to turn the duvet over so I didn't have to have the dirt smudges close to my face. I didn't raise the issue at the time, because I was so tired; the following morning I meant to raise it when I checked out but forgot. When I checked out I asked for my receipt to be emailed; as yet I haven't received it.

Hotel itself was amazing, looked amazing and in a good location, the staff were very helpful and friendly! I requested for our party to be all next door or in close proximity to each other and we were given our own little corner which I was very pleased about! Hotel room was lovely and spacious. Only downside was the fact you had to pay for parking on top of everything else and the spa facilities wasn't that big considering the size of the hotel, there was no loungers left for us to use and being with my nan she would of liked to have used one. So we didn't spend a lot of time in there.

We had a very pleasant stay. All the staff were friendly and professional from the moment we checked in, to the restaurant staff who served us at dinner and breakfast, through to check out. Our room was spotlessly clean, spacious and well-presented. These are all things I would expect from a 4* hotel but what really impressed was the beautifully designed bar area and the outstanding meal we had in the restaurant. It can be easy for hotel restaurants to get a little lazy but the food here was imaginative and flawlessly prepared. Thank you!

« Really great service from great staff »

Staff were really helpful and had a nice stay. A couple of points I wanted to raise are: We only having one tea bag in the room, however staff brought some more immediately. Disappointingly the beds were not good. We had a double room and had two single beds attached together which were at different heights and the mattresses were not comfortable. There was only one sheet on the bed covering a bare mattress. I would normally expect some sort of mattress protector. The pillows were also particularly hard. A stated, generally really nice let down by the beds.
