« One night stay for a wedding near by »

I found the staff friendly and helpful but the hotel was very tired. Breakfast wasn't anything special. The hotel looks like it needs some money spent on it. The bathroom especially looked like it needed an update. It didn't seem worth the money we spent although it was in a good location and had parking.

Easy to find the hotel, and the several entrances was useful. Staff at reception efficient & helpful. Twin room was nice & spacious.. often find in some hotels beds are almost joined together!

« Welcoming and efficient »

We needed to get into our room early as we were going to a wedding, the hotel was very helpful. The room was lovely, needed a shelf for toiletries in the shower. In colder weather I would have needed an extra blanket, the duvet was not quite warm enough for me. Charming staff and most helpful and welcoming manager. The breakfast was very good but needed to be a bit hotter.

« Dissapointed in the deteriation of the Hotel standard »

The Hotel needs a a lot of TLC to bring it up to an acceptable standard. Meal on the Tuesday night was very poor and it took about 20 mins from the first person getting there main coarse to the last. Not the standard you would expect. Carpets are worn and appear dirty, bathroom door veneer breaking off etc.

First of all, I would like to apologise for the telephone call as we had an issue with our telephone system as BT has modified some parameters on the switch board which involved such a problem charging all rooms with telephone call charges...all my apologies. « A hotel with character & staff to match. »

The comment above is very true, we stayed with you as a party of 5. Reine on reception was fantastic, a perfect balance of humor and character, she is a credit to your group. The manager was also 1st class, introducing himself and being visible is very different to what i normally experience whilst travelling & its much appreciated. I will stay at this hotel again, even if its slightly out of my way.

« As expected »

I've stayed on a few occasions and found the hotel staff to be friendly and helpful and the location is great. The hotel is getting a little tired now and would benefit from an upgrade or two. Nothing spectacular, just replacement of warn carpets and maybe the introduction of USB ports next to bedsides as we all have devices these days, which often double up as alarm clocks! The bathrooms are also getting a bit dated. I will return as it's a friendly, comfortable, safe hotel.

Murder mystery from Murder57, was excellent entertainment, food was very good, hotel room was in old part of hotel and was very rustic and old fashioned, but to my taste, breakfast was also good

« Appalling Service and Shabby Room »

Awful. Here is what I booked: SUPERIOR DOUBLE ROOM 2 Adults , 0Child King-size bed, walk-in shower, complimentary WIFI, mini bar (free soft drinks) espresso coffee machine, bathrode, slippers, newspaper and enhanced complimentary toiletries. The first room I was shown (26) wasn’t fit for use and certainly not what we booked. The night manager was good and quickly moved us to room 005. We then go about half of what we should have. Then we started arguing with your staff, Natalie, about getting coffee and water (you only get one bottle per day she argued) At eleventh hour there was a realisation that we had been short changed and a team arrived carrying bathrobes at 10.00pm. Too late.

« Nice old fashioned building, friendly staff but room was very noisy and very disturbed night. »

We stayed for one night and had we been staying longer would probably have asked to change rooms! It is a lovely old building, the staff were friendly, breakfast was unexciting but adequate. Our room was in the courtyard and was large and the bed was very comfortable. However the stairs to the room above seemed to be right behind our heads and around 2 am someone, obviously wearing wooden clogs, pounded up those stairs to their room. we could hear a conversation taking place and the clomping around continued for about half an hour. After a few hours the clomping began again, the ceiling was creaking and we gave up hope of getting back to sleep. There are obvious problems with old buildings but on the last night of our holiday we failed to appreciate its charms. When we left, the control barrier at the car park would not accept our password despite repeated attempts. It was another couple who had had the same problem and gone back to the hotel to report it who eventually came and told us there was a power cut and the barrier wouldn't work. We eventually drove out through the entrance which was narrow and of course we had to negotiate a car coming in. At no point did a member of staff appear.

I read your comments carefully and I do apologise for any inconvenience caused by the creaking floors of the property. I should say that the 16th century building is listed and things seem to be quite hectic to change. Hopefully with the renovation plan being discussed at this moments, things will be thought off properly and changed. As for the parking, the city council services have cut off the power for the whole area and we had to run to set the alarm on and fix some related issues which were an emergency. I have personally opened the gate, certainly after you left as we had some guests leaving that day. I am really sorry for the inconvenience. We try all our best to make our valuable clients satisfied with us but sometimes, circumstances make us fail in satisfying all situations. I will be happy to serve you again and make of your stay an wonderful one. Had to switch rooms 3 times due to excess plumbing noise when flushing the loo Arrived at 4pm and only just got parked as the car park was full - next morning guests had parked on grass verges and every spare strip of land Hotel staff not very visible or attentive

« Charming old hotel, needs some loving touches. »

The old parts of the hotel are delightful, and the breakfast was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. Peeling paint and faded fabrics add to the charm but I found the beds a bit hard and the fires weren’t lit in the sitting room or bar on a cold April night. In summary it could be amazing but needs a bit of an upgrade.
