« Mixed, with some items which should have been replaced well before our stay. »

The room (208) appeared clean (although dated), with nice linens on the bed. However, the bathroom was a different matter, with a badly stained toilet bowl and with a large crack in the basin. The toilet bowl should certainly have been replaced a long time ago and I wonder whether the room staff are empowered to give you this information?? When I turned the duvet back in the morning, I could see through the cover that there was quite a large stain on the duvet itself. I didn't investigate, but it was unpleasant to see. The staff - checkin and checkout - and dining room were all extremely pleasant. My husband was perfectly satisfied with the cooked breakfast.

Fine, one night stay with breakfast, room ok but dated and worn, corridors esp. worn. Breakfast average, cooked buffet did not look appealing, coffee machine temperamental.

« Attentive staff, but noisy and damp. »

We stayed for two nights and changed room after the first night as the heater/air vent/pipes were noisy throughout the night and disturbed our sleep. The room we were moved into smelt strongly of damp and therefore wasn't a nice place to spend lots of time in. Disappointing, given the amount of money we spent on a weekend away. On a positive note, the staff were very helpful and attentive.

As before the staff were superb in attitude, care and attention. The food was of reasonable standard. Many of the rooms are tired, needing some maintenance and an upgrade. The conference room leaves a lot to be desired; the echo effect is undesirable, the temperature controls were ineffective, particularly on the first day when it was very cold, the visual aids suite is old fashioned and I have concerns about the room security when tutors and delegates are elsewhere. Without the positive attitudes and help from the staff, the experience would leave a negative impression on the participants in this 2 day residential Course.

« What a shame to see the decline »

This hotel has mas massive potential - charm and old buildings...and each time we return it looked a little bit more run down. Some staff seem depressed (one could not even say hello as we passed him each time). Even for a struggling 3* hotel, being part of the Accor chain I did not expect or appreciate TWO days of cold water in the shower. After flagging it on day one, no explanation nor warning that the problem was not fixed. A minimal sorry as we checked out, as a gold card and loyal client, I was saddened by the complete lack of response from Accor when I wrote to complain. No sniff of an apology, still less any commercial gesture to compensate for having paid for a Privilege room that did not even have hot water.I could list all the problems, but at this rate it will not survive much longer or Accor will disown it as a very unflattering member of a decent hotel chain.I would not have written this review if they had made the effort to reply to my message direct and reapir the damage. Sad.

We had to be in town for a funeral and the hotel only made us more depressed. In urgent need of updating and some tlc. Considering its excellent location in the town centre . The only highlight a good breakfast seved by attentive and welcoming staff.

« An overnight stay that could have been better »

Reception information could have been more helpful. No heating in room on arrival (213) despite it being winter until someone on the same flor complained. Breakfast food was nicely laid out but the "hot" dishes WERE NOT HOT!

Good overall, excellent location, room a little tired but perfectly serviceable, staff friendly. Bar had no price list on display nor could the bar staff find one, first pint was to be a Stella but that had run out, second was a Bud light which was cloudy and off, switched to a small bottle of Peroni and was charges £4.30 equating to £8.60 a pint (compared with £4.50 for a pint of Guinness) ridiculous - and no price list to warn anyone.

Room was clean, but lights didn’t work properly - we got dressed for a wedding in the gloom, room was freezing on arrival - after leaving in a bit of a rush the next morning I realised I had left a wash bag and set of hair clippers in the room. Called the hotel the next day and housekeeping had ‘not found anything’ in the room. Also on arrival £20 was taken off my credit card for extras as a deposit a week later had not been refunded.

All lost and found items are stored locally and guests are informed immediately when items are found in the checked out rooms. Regarding the Pre-authorized £20, you should have got them back as it is a pre-authorization only...we do not debit that amount. Please check your account and if you do not have it back, let me know...I will make sure you get them promptly. Sorry for hat. « A very pleasant Christmas break with a few shortcomings »

I was very happy with the room and its cleanliness and the location of the hotel (I’ve stayed here before so was familiar with the location). The staff in the dining room, reception and bar were very friendly and helpful, however, the vegetarian food options weren’t wildly inspiring. It would have been helpful to have had a printed sheet giving the times of meals, etc because we had no idea when the evening buffets started and finished. My greatest gripe was the coffee machine, which you’ve never had before, mainly because it kept going wrong.
