Since the moment I checked in there was a very unpleasant female receptionist. She used unkind language to other guests while checking in. My Room 319 was rather looking tired and old, very dirty carpets, broken window blind.

I have 2 specific points: 1. It would be helpful if you specified on your website and informed your staff on Reception that the only Privilege rooms are on the ground floor. There was considerable confusion and delay because I had booked a Privilege room but did not want one on the ground floor for security reasons. 2. I see that your dining room is used only for breakfast, while dinner is set up in the Lounge. This does not encourage people to want to eat there!

Not the best although at no fault of the staff. I had booked a half board rate but no one seemed to know what it entailed and on check out I was asked to pay for me Meal even though it was included. Also there was a lot of noise from above my room. This isn’t the first time I have experienced this at a mercure hotel and will make me think twice before booking again.

All the staff were so lovely. And there was a cozy, nice feel to the property. The grounds were lovely too. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom spacious. The bedroom was just a bit run down, particularly the walls. I'd still go back and visit again.

Worn, outdated rooms. The radiator's control knob was broken off. The towel warmer control knob was broken. Half the lights didn't work. 100 year old sinks with separate hot/cold faucets that are so short your hands touch the back of the sink and it's hard not to burn your hands. The bathroom has dirty grout, rotting paneling around the tub, and a radiator dripping with rust. TV remote was a replacement that couldn't properly control the TV. Carpets had more stains than not. Dirty walls with paint chipping. Spiders crawling across the bed. The water smells. The pillows were the oldest and hardest of any hotel I've ever stayed at.

« Nice hotel, parking procedure not clear, rude main receptionist. »

Really comfy room, good Aircon. I like the free access to a cold fridge, but if I had known about it in advance it would have been more use to me. My main complaint is about the receptionist who was on duty on the morning of 12/5/18, the day I checked in. I random the hotel at about 10.30am to ask if I could check in early. She sounded exasperated and told me I'd "have to take chance like everybody else". In fact, I was happy to pay extra to get into my room a little early, as I wanted plenty of time to get ready for the wedding I was attending that afternoon. But she did not give me chance to say this, instead telling me, "it depends on your room type". I asked her what my room type was, to which she very loudly replied, "I am busy with customers, I only answered the phone because it was ringing." At that point I put the phone down and hoped she was not on duty when I arrived. Sadly for the customer in front of me (judging by her familiar sounding French accent), she was. The poor lady in front of me had been assured by her nephew he had booked a room for her when he booked his own room, but the receptionist in question could find no record of it. Now I know this oversight by the nephew is not your employee's fault, but her heinous reaction to that poor lady certainly was! She made out this customer was idiotic for trusting someone else to book her room and gave her the impression that there were no rooms left for that night. She then barked at a passing colleague to "come and deal with this" (referring to the confused lady customer). The poor colleague in question had just arrived in reception, so the lady had to explain her predicament all over again. The only upside of the lady having to this again is that, love and behold, a choice of available rooms was found for her for that night. When she had "delegated" the aforementioned lady to her colleague, your receptionist approached me as if to begin checking me in, seemed to change her mind, and disappeared behind the fake bookcase (tacky, by the way, for such an older worlds hotel). Luckily for me another perfectly pleasant receptionist came along to help me soon after. Upon checking out the following morning, I again noticed this rude receptionist getting half way through serving a customer and then handing the task off to an unsuspecting colleague. Please give herLOTS of customer service training, especially defining that it is we customers who pay her wages. All your other staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, which makes her rudeness grate all the more. I would like a refund, please, for the appalling way I was treated.

Having stayed with you several times I can say I was a little disappointed on this occasion Check in was fine, and I had requested an upgrade to an executive room which I know is not guaranteed But when I asked as we checked in if we had been upgraded I was told yes! Which when we got to our room it was just a standard classic room and the Hotel didn't seem that busy! We checked in and went to our room unpacked and went to the bar, because there was heavy rain we chose to eat in your bar and asked for a menu, I know it's hotels prices and don't mind that but your menu says The ham and cheese rarebit toastie and the club sandwich we ordered came with side salad and crisps when they arrived they came with a portion of fries each, which were nice but not until we checked out on Sunday morning discovered they were £3 per portion which we had not asked for and did not get crisps or indeed a side salad, ok took this on the chin but some one either took it on themselves or made a mistake with our order which we clearly did not ask for! None of this a major problem, however when returning late to our room 218, to then discover there were dogs in the room next door, which yapped and barked for a little while and then thankfully they shut up and then barked a few times the next morning . Sorry but I find this totally unacceptable for Dogs to be in a room and next to another occupied room!!! Were they there officially or unofficially? Thankfully they didn't bark during the night otherwise I would have been ringing reception!! I would however like to commend your professional, courteous, efficient friendly staff, particularly the guy that runs the bar and the 2 lovely girls at Breakfast Lastly on checkout we had 2 receipts allocated to our bill which were not ours for just short of £50 Which your reception staff thankfully sorted, I know mistakes are made and thankfully we checked our bill But I would suggest a review of your system of charging to rooms

« Needs some TLC »

The food was excellent both dinner and breakfast. The staff were helpful and polite and we enjoyed our stay overall for the Murder Mystery event. The room was tired and dated, the bed was very comfy but the bedding whilst was clean & crisp some bits were old and yellowing. The sink taps were hard to turn on/off with hardly any water flow and the toilet took several (4) attempts to flush everything away. The grounds were very well maintained too. This hotel just needs a good revamp.

Bed was a little hard but acceptable. Air-con didn't seem to work, room was hot so windows had to be opened, which meant the room was noisy. No black out curtains and blind adjuster was broken, had to roll it up and down by hand. No late night bar. Breakfast was not brilliant, the bacon was disgusting, like it had been steamed rather than grilled. Sausage cooked ok, but just not very nice.

A training course was the reason for my stay so I am not critiquing from a leisure perspective. The accommodation was comfortable, the room service food was pretty tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only one slight complaint, which was that the heating was pretty noisy in my room. Throughout the night.

« Great stay in a lovely town »

Quick and easy check in (and out) but you would expect that as we pre-paid. Upgraded to a Privelage room through the Accor loyalty programme. The room was clean and comfortable, good range of toiletries and spotlessly clean bathroom. We appreciated the small private terrace outside our room as it was a really hot weekend. The hotel was very quiet and relaxing. We had a small problem with our room (bedside lamp not working) but this was rectified immediately. Superb breakfast, and the restaurant supervisor, Diana, was very professional, helpful and accommodating. We felt valued guests as she remembered our order from the morning before, and even sat us at the same table. It was great to relax on the terrace outside the bar - so quiet and tranquil. The only problem was the bar had no Baileys on both the nights that we stayed!! We will definitely stay here again when back in this area.

Manager Kamil & staff Reine, Daniella & George showed a level of customer service that was second to none. Hotel itself is a bit tired in places but gardens beautifully kept. New management have only been in for a couple of months so I expect upgrading will be in the future plans.

Overall the experience was ok. Room and bathroom was clean. Floorboards were making a lot noise The duvet was really warm, did nothing help that the room got really warm in the late evening

The room was in need of a make over and indeed a clean. The bath was actually dirty and had not been cleaned around the insides. The windows had black mildew around them, which is not healthy. The pillows on both twin beds were ready for the dustbin, totally uncomfortable. I would have expected more for £122.00
