Comfortable and quiet room..though the sliding wardrobe door was insecure and fell off its runners once. Staff very nice. Breakfast fine...except no mint tea - on either day - surely a basic item nowadays? Interesting building and history and attractive grounds.

Booked one night spa break, unfortunately there was an issue with the hot water so couldn't use the pool (given vouchers to return) but treatments were great and the food was excellent. All staff were extremely helpful. One of our party is coeliac and the staff couldn't do enough to ensure her requirements were met.

Despite having been told that the pool in the leisure centre was out of use due to the gas leak, which I was really devastated about, Steven was a fantastic help in ensuring our experience was still amazing! We got an extra treatment in the spa on the day and 4 free day passes to the spa for a day of our choice. In addition to this, the hotel upgraded our room! The buffet style breakfast was gorgeous! The selection was fantastic and all the food was really fresh. The room was lovely, the food was amazing, we had some amazing treatments in the spa and all of the staff were a great help and very attentive.

As a deaf wheelchair user i found i could access all areas of the hotel. However as a smoker i could access the necessary areas but apart from the main entrance the ashtray was placed apart from the paved area by pebbles. This caused a problem in putting out the cigarette and disposing of it when finished. I have pointed this out before. The bar was closed by the time the concert on fri eve. And sat eve we could not buy a warm drink at the end of concert. I have fish and nut allergy but despite informing the hotel i had a trace reaction on sat gala dinner. Probably from the bread roll as i had not eaten anything at that point. Unfirtunately my friend had a reaction on fri eve buffet from alcohol in chocolate cake. The only desssert available to her.

The two things that stood out for my stay were the incredible service and high quality food. I haven't experienced a level of service that high anywhere else in the UK, and this was mostly down to the food and beverage team. I was at the Dunkenhalgh for the Daniel ODonnell weekend. My room was lovely but I have one complaint the room was cold it did have a small heater but this did not heat the whole room and it was a very dry heat.

Having staying many nights on business, I'd say that the hotel is a lovely setting but beneath the exterior there are many things that need improving. First of all, the rooms are shockingly badly lit. If you're there on Business forget trying to work. They use the very old energy saving bulbs that take an age to 'warm up' but even when at full brightness they are not adequate for the purpose. There is always something wrong with every room as the maintenance program seems to be if it's broke, don't fix it, take it out the room. Missing trouser presses, missing floor lamps, missing shaving mirrors and even missing wardrobe doors. The housekeeping staff will sometimes replace consumables you've used, sometimes not. On the plus side, the rooms are spacious and the beds excellent - you will struggle not to get a good nights sleep. The staff are friendly and happy to help, just they are let down by organisation, management and the processes I feel. It's a shame as these little things spoil what could be a great hotel.
