Bed mattress was extremely uncomfortable and when I removed the sheets I was surprised to see how old the mattress was! I complained twice to the reception without any results, the lady at the reception was rude, the duty manager promised to help but nothing happened!

Booking agent was great, got us a lovely room in executive suite rather than a normal one for no extra. Booking in staff were super who checked us in. Hotel was clean and well looked after. Pool-great. Massages we had were brill too. Waitresses at restaurant were attentive and so was the bar staff and couldn’t fault them. Had an issue with the restaurant food that was microwaved to death and food wasn’t home cooked, we believe it was packet cooked which was a shame. I had curry and it was tasteless and the chicken didn’t seem like real chicken, more like reformed chicken. Husband had a noodle dish which was bubbling when it came as it was microwaved. It was mentioned but nothing done. Asked also several times to change the non working coffee machine in our room but no one came and got a repetitive answer from the dismissive girl on late reception who kept saying it should be done as she’d reported it. She didn’t really seem to care and quickly returned to what she was doing? Never once did she check if it had been sorted and we returned to our room without it working. Breakfast was everything it should be and couldn’t complain as it had everything. Although there had been a few minor issues it wouldn’t prevent us from going again as the rest was brilliant. Another issue was there was an additional price for the time of year you stay but this isn’t originally not on the advertised price and makes you think that’s it until it then links you to additional time of year price which is then added on so slightly misleading which ends up more to pay out than first thought? I’d have rather the total price automatically comes up for the time of year your staying in one!

Old mattress, very uncomfortable sleep, receptionist was rude when asked to change the mattress and never did anything about it. won't be staying there again.And the indoor pool was dirty, never experienced anything like it!

When we arrived there was an Asian wedding taking place and the cars they had come in had just been discarded in front of the hotel. The many people attending were all milling around in front of the hotel and in the foyer. Because of this we had to park our car in the over spill car park at the back and had to walk with all our luggage and then struggled to get through all the people who gave us dirty looks as though we should not be walking through their party. I paid for an executive room which I found to be very basic and tied, the carpets were badly stained and even though there were two of us staying there was only one bottle of water and one glass. My husband decided to order room service only to be told that he could either call down and collect or a charge of £5 would be added for it delivering.....very poor standards. I thought the foyer where you check in was very clinical and the staff looked tied and their uniforms looked unclean. we noticed that where people had ordered room service there were a lot of trays left outside the rooms for a considerable amount of time for eg: my husband ordered room service and left his tray outside the door at 5.30pm and then when we returned back to the hotel at around 1.00pm the tray was still outside the door.....there were light bulbs missing in the bathroom and the bedroom. Overall for a huge hotel which looks nice on the outside the inside is very tired and needs updating. I found it very odd that the Asian wedding which was being held we had to walk through their reception to get to our rooms which if that was my wedding I certainly would not be happy about. Several of the cars from the wedding which were parked directly outside the entrance had quite a few children playing in them with their phones and I was disgusted to see the lack of respect they showed by throwing their drink cartons and crisp wrappers out of the car onto the floor, it looked a right eyesore. I did not like the fact that the whole hotel was macerated in the aromas of curry from the wedding....Therefore I felt that the hotel was very big and un personal and could do with updating and certain areas looking closely at. I am sorry I cannot say anything pleasing as I was very disappointed having always stayed in luxury hotels and having just left Mitton Hall where we had stayed for 2 nights I felt very let down.

Was given room 80. Room smelt musty / damp, chairs full on dust on the edges and dated, large cupboard mirror doors weren't shutting properly, toilet bowl hadn't been thoroughly cleaned!! Water distribution from the sink was poor, extremely hot water (no warning sign!) and cold water only trickling out. Checked in after 10pm so couldn't be bothered to raise it up with reception. On departure the receptionist did not even asked how the stay was...

Our original room, was fly invaded, the bed was broken and the bed covers didn't fit. we were then offered room 38 in the courtyard, whilst we were asleep, another quest had been given keys to our room, of which was a shock that somebody had entered into our room. I jumped out of bed, removed the key from the door, handed it back to the visitor, asking him to go a see reception. We were there on business and need to leave the hotel at 6am on the Sunday morning, to set up our stand for HEMS, a Model show at Burnley football ground. We had previously ordered, 2 early take out breakfasts , there were two forms to fill in on arrival, one for each, 6am Sunday at reception I reported the invasion of the room of 00:20 hours of 21st October and asked this to be passed on to the management team, there was also only one breakfast prepared for us, we had to weight for the 2nd breakfast. on returning from the show Sunday evening at around 07.30 ish we had a meeting with the management team. we have been offered a return visit to the hotel as a quester to repair the damage of our visit. We live in Bedfordshire, which is some 4.5 hour drive each way. as said we were there on business, so haven't had any time to explore, so haven't any idea as to what we might do or see when we re-book. the Spa looks good, so could look at a treatment or 2.

Our room in the main hall was a bit spartan. The leisure pool far too busy. The massage we each had were enjoyable and reasonably good value. Great steak for dinner but a tad pricey. Not the first time we’ve stayed and won’t be the last. But could do with a makeover!

Booked 5 rooms in August, had to pay separately for 3 and then book the other 2 In husbands name, paid for all 5 on same card. Checked in Saturday afternoon and was asked for my bank card. The 5 rooms could not have been further from each other and it is a large hotel!!!! 2 rooms 64 and 65, snelt quite badly of foist and damp. The water would only work one two at a time, if toilet flushed no water in sink or shower, if shower in use the toilet could not be flushed. We did like the hotel but the carpet in the bar was ripped and tatty, a huge refurbishment is require I think. Then imagin my surprise on the Monday when I noticed that I had been charged for the 2 rooms booked in my husbands name! I had to threaten with my banks service and send proof of payments before they would reimburse, in fact the manager had to ring me back after 2 more phone calls. The managers opening sentence was “now madam about the rooms you hadn’t paid for!!!” I have since received full reimbursement but I think it will be a long time before any of our isrty would stay at s Mercure hotel again
