The room was very basic and I had to search around for a kettle, which was hidden away in a cupboard. Also, the kettle was too big to fit under the bathroom sink tap to fill up. So had to fill up with bath tap. The bins had no liners in them. The shower screen was dirty and looked mouldy at the bottom. The glass on the table was loose and slipped a number of times, could have quite easily fallen off and caused an injury. The bar was poorly stocked, with only one white wine choice, Sauvignon Blanc, no Tia Maria, no amaretto and was left waiting a considerable length of time for drinks. Was made to feel rushed in the restaurant at the end of our meal with the lights being turned up fully and staff hovering around us, not great when entertaining clients.

On arrival and at dinner we were listed as 2 instead of family which we booked. At being seated in the restaurant we had to wait while staff checked we were all eligible for the dinner allowance, which was confirmed but then we were billed wrongly at the end and had to wait again. Our deal included glass of prosecco which we had to ask for and again had to wait while staff checked. I would suggest that staff should be made aware of all guest deals as the confusion becomes annoying. That being said all staff were friendly and professional. Only other complaint is the pillows which are terrible and a small investment would go a long way to guests getting a good night sleep. Evening meal was lovely although breakfast could be improved...rubbery eggs! Hotel was a little tired but to be expected with these old buildings. Spa was lovely although husband complained changing rooms were uncomfortably hot. Overall, we got what we paid for but could easily have felt like more with a few easy improvements.

I enjoyed the accommodations and the charm of the building. The restaurant was quite good. The only thing I can think of that would make the stay any better would be a power outlet closer to the bed.

I do quite like this hotel; on this occasion the lack of any heating in the bathroom was quite noticeable however. I pleased that there are still s few biscuits provided with the tea & coffee facilities in the room.

We stayed at the hotel while in the area for a friends wedding. Checkin / out were very fast and easy. The room itself was a family room, huge double bed and all the normal hotel features. The cot we requested looked like it had seen better days so we ended up with our baby son in the bed with us. Breakfast was great, good selection and just what we needed! We also used the pool which we would absolutely recommend. We did find that the changing room area was far too hot though - we ended up dressing our son in the enterence area as he was overheating! But the facilities overall were lovely! Considering the price, this hotel was great value for money and we would stay again if we come back to the area.

On arrival we were given our room key 105 I think. The room was made up a a family room, asked reception why we had ben given a room made up for a family. They issued us with a new room 506, much better thank you. Spa treatments all booker up!!! so we could not enjoy any treatments. and pool full so we have quite a waite for the pool.

« Great spa break »

We booked the over night stay, spa treatments, 3 course meal and breakfast package. This was such a relaxing weekend, check in was quick and friendly and a table was booked for us for our evening meal. We arrived just before our spa treatments so went straight to the spa, the staff were brilliant showed us around the facilitates and then left us to get ready for our treatments. After the treatments we spent the afternoon in the spa the only complaint I have is that there was a lot of standing water around the thermal suite area which could do with better drainage. After our afternoon in the spa we went to our rooms, these are a good size and were very clean. The room is dated and in need of renovation. Our evening meal included in the package was excellent and the service in the restaurant was brilliant, the staff were extremely attentive, I wish I could remember the name of the waitress as she does deserve a big thank you but all the staff were great and the same at breakfast the next morning. The only other little complaint that I have is that I think the mattresses on the beds were very uncomfortable and a couple of us in our group did struggle to get much sleep at all. Apart from this though I would have no issues in recommending this spa break to anyone and think I would still re-book it myself but maybe upgrade to a better room.

Problems started at time off booking. Booked through last minute. Hotel reception informed me that my booking has not gone through and to cancel and book directly though the hotel at a higher price. Had to call last minute to inform them off this and to see why my booking hadn't gone through. They reassured me that it had and contacted the hotel on my behalf. Booked the hotel on a dinner bed and breakfast basis and upgraded our room at an extra cost which was a waste of money. Room not up to standard. When we arrived at the hotel we were told that there was no room in the restaurant for our meal. The bar was busy so we pulled up some chairs to an empty table and ate there. We also booked to use the spa facilities and have a massage. The spa was very disappointing. Not a relaxing area at all and two of the rooms in the grotto/sauna area were not working and neither was the showers with the different settings. The massage was nice and we enjoyed that. We stayed on a Saturday night and checked out Sunday morning to use the spa facilities. However I had left valuables in the room only to be told by reception that it wasn't there problem and I'd have to contact house keeping the next day. This was very infuriating. I asked why housekeeping hadn't informed reception that valuables had been left behind be told again in a very rude manner its housekeeping you need to speak to and to ring tomorrow. I had to then book the morning off work the next day to make my way back to the hotel to collect my valuables. Why housekeeping and reception staff cannot communicate between themselves or inform there guests that they have left personal belongings is baffling. Especially because I was still at the hotel at the time using the spa facilities. Over all this was a very disappointing experience for several reasons. I was very unhappy with the experience especially as I had booked it for a friend so we could relax the weekend before her wedding.

« What a difference a year makes. Last year our visit was special, this year our visit was terrible. »

The menu in the restaurant barely matched that of a good pub. The duck I ordered tasted like it had been defrosted. Not fresh at all. The bar tender didn't know how to make a cocktail. Hardly 4 star. Previous visit 12 months prior was very good. The hotel seems to have lost very good staff and replaced them with people who do not know what they are doing.

Overall the experience was fine, the room was a bit dated and the shower was terrible with hardly any pressure. We got married in your hotel nearly 19 years ago and we visit periodically! The breakfast has definitely slipped in standards, it seems as if the hotel are doing the bare minimum, although the hotel was full with conferences so this may have been the reason. Leisure suite was fine although we went swimming just as a class started so not ideal for us. Staff were beyond excellent and could not be more professional from the cleanliness of the rooms to the serving staff in the restaurant and any we passed in the corridor on the way to our room all went out of their way to ask if we were ok. Wifi was also good.
