« Upsetting »

The staff were lovely , the spa treatments were great, the evening meal tasted great but was ruined by the guests on the next table The tables were too close together, it felt like we were sat on a table for 4. The two guests next to us were very drunk and obnoxious. They kept shouting and swearing at the waiter. They kept going outside to smoke something that wasn’t tabaco , they took it in turns and then returned to the table even more wasted and aggresive Unfortunately my parter and I are nice people and were too polite to ask to move tables. The couple started to talk to us, they then spilt their wine all over us. They then apologised and offered to buy us a drink but soon they turned aggressive, they kept telling us to F**k off then threatened to ‘knock me out’! I appreciate this isn’t an issue with the hotel however this experience could have been helped, after the staff noticed how drunk and aggressive the couple were being they should have been told to leave or we should have at least been offered another table My partner and I have two small children, we rarely get baby sitters never mind a night away. The night away was supposed to be relaxing, romantic stress free break. In fact it was quite the opposite and I spent the evening sat in our room in frightened and in tears

« Good but could have been great »

My room (40) was OK but short on plugs, no obvious place to use the kettle, for example. Pillows, a bit 'Travelodge'. Sadly, my room had no hot water, which I didn't find out until I tried to shower in the morning. Restaurant was great and lovely food in the evening. Breakfast also very good. Staff superb. Decor stylish and in keeping with heritage. Fountain outside really nice to see. Couldn't find a 'lounge' other than noisy bar in the evening but maybe I missed it. Would come again if need to stay in the area.

« Very lovely hotel, with wonderful breakfasts, lovely staff and right next to the leeds/liverpool canal which is perfect for bike rides »

Everything was just as expected - the room was clean and very spacious. Breakfast was wonderful with no one hurrying you and you could choose anything including anything from the kitchen - amazing value for £10 pp. The hotel was lovely - old with lots of features. The spa was very nice and it was lovely to wander over to the swimming pool up until 10pm. So all in all a very lovely experience.

« Tired rooms but great staff »

I have stopped at this hotel for nearly 2 years. Over the last couple of months I have seen a deterioration in attention to detail in the rooms. Examples include no bottle of water in the executive rooms, 4 sachets of "decaffeinated coffee" rather than 2 normal, and 2 decaffeinated, missing biscuits, 3 decaffeinated expresso pods when upgraded to privilege rooms rather than a selection of pods, and the removal of orange juice from the privilege rooms, etc. Staff however are still great!

« Lovely but slightly uncomfortable »

Very nice hotel and overall we had a good stay but sadly the room was extremely hot! I’m not sure if it was just our room because the whole corridor section was boiling once through the door to the next corridor it was fine.

« A memorable experience on my retirement »

Overall a pleasant experience, despite being asked by one member of staff whether the person who was retiring had any friends. I think he had confused the fact that we had access to the room from 18.00, but the guests weren't due to arrive until 19.30. The first guests arrived at 19.35. We had asked for the A/C to be turned off whilst we were seeing the room up as it was quite chilly and a fire door had been opened. We were told it would get warm when our guests arrived. We asked for the A/C to be turned on when more guests arrived, the fire door had been closed by this time. A member of the bar staff rolled her eyes but a tall young man switched it on without question. Although this sounds negative it is not intentional. The booking process and communication regarding my event were extremely good. I booked a room to stay overnight which was excellent. The buffet at my event was well received by all my guests and I would consider revisiting should I be hosting another event.

« The hotel is lovely and have attended many events in the past there but the price of the drinks is extortionate and well renowned for being the case. »

The bottom side of my trousers fell out when I was charged £7.50 for a small glass of Processco (I dread to think what a glass of Dom Perignon is. I literally had to ask the bar tender to repeat what she said and she said.....hmm....I know its ridiculous isn't it! ....if you made the bar prices palpable you wouldn't have people smuggling in booze to release the burden of trying to have a good time. Just saying!

« All expectations were realised »

It was an overnight stay for my wife's 60th birthday and we loved every minute. The ambience, room , superb food and staff were all 1st class, and so was the spa.

« Not what I expected for such a beautiful building »

I paid an additional amount for a renovated room and booked in online. Arriving late in the evening, I was shown to a room that was dirty, had food on the chair, the lampshade at the side of the bed was ripped and broken, there was spare bedding under the bed and it had a strong smell of cigarettes. I tried to stay in the room as I was only there for one night, but decided I would rather leave the hotel. I explained the problem to the receptionist and she kindly moved me to a room that was much better. In this second (great) room, the bin in the bathroom had not been emptied from a previous guest and contained food, including a banana skin. The following morning I decided to leave without taking breakfast - I felt grubby and wanted to leave as soon as possible. All in all, I am left feeling I would avoid this hotel in the future.

« Pleasant staff, sub standard food and tired looking hotel »

Great check in and check out. Staff really good as mentioned the food was poor in the evening, and the hotel needs a lick of paint. Great fitness facilities

« The hotel staff were brilliant »

In my group we were all very happy with the service that we received from the hotel and were very satisfied apart from the spa management that had no public relations at all! I had some of the ladies on the group who were mistreated at the spa and ended up not having their treatments done.... I hope they (spa) improve in the way they treat customers

« Great food and sme great service, but missing some opportunities »

We visited for a 'spa day' which was part of a wedding gift, we stayed in the hotel the day before, and the day after, so we were relaxed and fresh. We planned other activities on the day of departure. A mix-up in communications between the hotel and the spa when booking led to us not having time reserved for our treatments. This issue was made worse than a 'mix-up' by repeated calls over a period of weeks by us to the Spa prior to arrival which weren't returned or acted upon. These were also followed up in writing to the hotel, but this email was 'lost' (a copy was resent on the the day. The Spa on the day couldn't help us (short of a refund or coming back on a different day (100 miles, a rental car, and two nights in the hotel at our expense)), but we spoke to Danielle (?) the Duty Manager at the hotel and she unblocked the issue for us; the spa came back with some potential solutions. One of the Therapists (Nikita?) offered to come in early for her shift the next day so that it would allow us to receive the treatments - whilst it wasn't ideal, this level of personal flexibility at short notice to help correct someone else's error really deserves a special thanks to the Therapist. We intentionally raised the issue at the time to give the hotel an opportunity to resolve the issue. Despite the mix up, and us having to change our plans for our romantic retreat, there was no offer of service recovery: A 'come back to see us again', or a bottle of wine would have gone a long way. The food was delicious, my only regret is that neither of us had a dessert the whole time we were there - the portions were great value! The service in the bar was really great. Served quickly, and always had drinks brought to us, or the staff provided table service. Special thanks to Samuel (?) who on the first night volunteered to check with the restaurant which wine we were drinking so we could have it in the bar, and who on the second night remembered our drinks and suggested some really good cocktails for us. The room was a good size, and there were some nice touches like complimentary drinks in the room. The down side is that the room seemed to be set up for one - one towel in the bathroom, one bottle of water etc. even though there were two names on the reservation. Daily service during the stay was hit and miss - some bits were done incredibly well, but glasses weren't cleaned, and bar glasses weren't removed. Overall not big issues for us, but something so easy to get right. The two biggest things for us about the room are the quality of the bed, and the quality of the shower - both were 10/10.

« Very bad uncomfortable sleep »

Experience I had was not good at all because there was a number of issues with the restaurant the room the bar which I wouldn’t mind discussing on the phone with one of your customer service staff 07…

« Warm, friendly but efficient staff and good food »

This was group visit of 17 friends who meet every year around the north of England. The 'experience' at the Dunkenhalgh was enjoyed by all of us. One or two complained about the distance to the Exec Rooms but all appreciated a good nights sleep despite the weddings in full flow
