« Lovely setting let down by a number of small things and pooly lit rooms. »

Having staying many nights on business, I'd say that the hotel is a lovely setting but beneath the exterior there are many things that need improving. First of all, the rooms are shockingly badly lit. If you're there on Business forget trying to work. They use the very old energy saving bulbs that take an age to 'warm up' but even when at full brightness they are not adequate for the purpose. There is always something wrong with every room as the maintenance program seems to be if it's broke, don't fix it, take it out the room. Missing trouser presses, missing floor lamps, missing shaving mirrors and even missing wardrobe doors. The housekeeping staff will sometimes replace consumables you've used, sometimes not. On the plus side, the rooms are spacious and the beds excellent - you will struggle not to get a good nights sleep. The staff are friendly and happy to help, just they are let down by organisation, management and the processes I feel. It's a shame as these little things spoil what could be a great hotel.

This is an old hotel and it shows. This makes its facilities a bit quirky. I hate having to use the external block of rooms where you have to navigate through conference hall bars/receptions to then walk outside in the cold to get to the remote accommodation block. I often get put on the top floor on and end room. Not convenient. The room a very old style and the beds could be more comfortable. I have presumed you have to pay more to be situated in the main building in a more upto date room. The bar area is inadequate as a meeting place and is often overcrowded. Confused between bar, eating area and meeting place. The restaurant food in the evening is very poor and the fixed menus that never changes is unimaginative. Well staffed but service marginally poor. Breakfast is OK It seems that Blackburn is poorly served with four-star hotels and independent restaurants. This is why this hotel seems to do well with business because there is little other choices. If competitive hotel chains comie into the area; this hotel will struggle.

My hotel room was 602 which was at the very end of the hotel - as I am the Conference Organiser it is better to be closer to the meeting room facilities. The cold tap did not work and the hot water took some time in the morning to start.

First impressions are great here, the Impressive building as you drive in is attractive and the checkin process is friendly and helpful. Food has lots to offer and of good quality, if I had to point out imporvements I would say the hotel overall could do with a re-furbish (especially the bedroom rooms which look a bit tired).

Phoned over a week ahead of our stay to request that the rooms were twin rooms as we were a group of female friends and requested Courtyard rooms. Was advised that only 1 Courtyard room was executive but this had been allocated to us and another executive room within the hotel. When we arrived they had allocated 2 rooms within the hotel and neither had been made up as twins. In the end we had standard rooms in the courtyard - which were fine other than the shower which had no pressure and was either too hot or freezing cold.

Really impressed with this hotel. Good room, clean, quiet and attractive, just missing a room safe. Leisure facilities/spa excellent. Food: we had pre paid for dinner; good choice from set menu and we both enjoyed the quality food provided. The dining room was popular. Drinks in the bar after dinner, pleasant venue. Breakfast was really good, outstanding choice of fresh fruit, hot and cold options. Only area for improvement was the coffee. For this standard of hotel a decent coffee at breakfast is essential. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, would recommend and will happily return.

Food was lovely and staff in restaurant v helpful; rooms were comfortable but tired and in need of a refurb; spa was ok but reception to spa seemed chaotic when we arrived. Nobody showed us the relaxation room (was there one?) and one of our treatments was short by a good ten mins. Spa customer service needs improving really if the hotel is going to be considered for a really good spa as it all seemed a bit lazy and disorganised. Pool was nice and warm and steam areas good. All in all it didn't feel like a luxury treat stay which is a shame because the hotel looks magnificent from outside

« Comfy but dusty »

The venue is magnificent (we were here for a big event) and we stayed overnight...wish I'd brought a towel as I hadn't realised we could have used the on site pool and spa facilities. Next time! I have to make comment about the room though. It was big, warm, spacious and tastefully appointed...no complaints there. However there was a significant amount of dust on the bedside lamps and picture frames. Seemingly the staff had simply changed the bed, emptied the bins, wiped the sink and hoovered the floor....basic but functional. In such an exquisite location I expected better. It was evident the dust had been there at least a few days. But thank you for a comfortable stay nonetheless in a lovely room (106). We shall stop again.

Rooms were a good size. Food was excellent. Staff were do helpful. We had a lovely area for our party at night in the dining room. The only niggle which is petty is the room lighting as it was quite dark.

Lovely welcome, attentive and friendly staff. Room was light bright and clean but there were issues; one of the sockets didn’t work only noted when my phone hadn’t charged, bath didn’t drain during shower and there wasn’t a convenient plug for the kettle.

« Two night breakaway.. »

A comfortable stay. We needed a hotel within short driving distance from Bacup. This came up on my search engine. We weren't disappointed with our stay, but our room was a fair walk from the main building, which included going outside to access our block. The weather was freezing, so going to breakfast we needed our coats on. The walk through the building was cold too. The staff were lovely. The food was nicely done in the evening. Really couldn't fault the service. Our bedroom was little bit cold too, with only a small storage heater on the wall which began to smell hot when turned up full. The room only had one electric power socket, which in this day and age of owning more than one electrical device, proved to be rather annoying when wanting to charge phones, boil the kettle and blow dry hair. The decor in the bedroom was a little dated, but everything was clean and tidy.
