The radiator didn’t work. There was no hot water from the shower in the evening and it was too hot in the morning. There was a wasp in my room. The bed was too hard and the pillows uncomfortable.

The overall stay was okay, the breakfast was sufficient and the overall menu selection has a variety. My only complaint is that I have been bitten a handful of times whilst staying at the hotel, of which I did mention on checking out but there was no manager to help escalate my complaint.

We booked directly with the hotel 4am , as the booking agencies showed it as being full. Not only did they find a couple of rooms, but we were welcomed by the night porter with a bowl of fresh fruit and some drinks!!

Excellent sized room with pleasant furniture. We could have done with more light in the room and it could be difficult to read or put makeup on. I usually needed to sit by a window during the daytime. The service of the room was good when done but some days it was missed. Food excellent especially the breakfast. Staff were very pleasant and we would stay there again.

Reception staff were very polite, although they didn't highlight the large group of teenagers staying in the courtyard also. We would have changed our room had we been told this. Our room was in a good location (courtyard) but was not 4* standard (room 52 - no hairdryer, dated decor and tissue stuffed into a hole on the bathroom door). Large group of teenagers (Hello World field trip) wheeling cases and shouting very early morning (4am then 7am). Restaurant food and service was outstanding. Spa was very good. Not sure about my masseuse as my back massage was more of an all-over rub with the odd targeting of knots. I literally could've got my partner to do better. Relaxing nonetheless. Whilst we were waiting for our lunch in the spa restaurant (the lunch arrived lukewarm), we were in earshot of a young female member of staff airing her complaints about zero hour contracts given by the hotel and how she is rotad in for too many weekends. The male member of staff had switched the music off prior to this. Although it was mildly entertaining for the 15 minutes she had a rant, it wasn't the ambience we had hoped for during a spa stay. Not sure where the waiting staff were as our lunch order was taken and food delivered by a personal trainer. We spent a decent amount on our stay at Dunkenalgh and have stayed a couple of times and have visited the spa on several occasions. It's generally good quality for somewhere nearby but this visit gave us too many negatives. We expect far better from a 4* hotel. Frustrating as the restaurant is spot on. Service is impeccable as was the food.

Upon check in, I wasn’t told about the spa facilities, nor was I told that if I required room service I need to swipe my credit card. So this resulted in trips back to reception later that evening. Poor service. The food I ordered for room service was cold. And the waiter had to go back downstairs and there were no sauces. My breakfast order was wrong and the food again was disappointing. No coffee making facilities in the room.

This hotel is run down and is in desperate need of a make over. We had the misfortune to be put into Room 212 and experienced the following: - toilet did not flush properly - we ended up tipping water from the kettle down the toilet to flush it! - the batteries on the TV remote are nearly flat, so that didn't work properly - you have screwed the cover shut so we couldn't change them - the mattress was so hard and so uncomfortable, that both myself and my wife had back ache (that is not an exaggeration, but fact!) - the pillows are poor quality, in our opinion - the "energy saving" light bulbs are so old and dim, that I could not even read my book!, but had to use the light on my phone - incredible!! - there is no ceiling light so we could not supplement it with that and the standard lamp was next to useless. - we asked for some milk to make a cup of tea, (from the cheap tea bags) and the reception said you would send some up. We waited approx 30 minutes, called room service, as there was no answer from reception, and they came up with 2 jugs, although there is no fridge in the room so it had to stay on the desk all night. - breakfast was OK - someone burnt some toast and no staff had the sense to put any extraction on, so the dining room smelled of burnt toast. - the room had maybe 5 tables occupied at breakfast time, so plenty of space. Myself and my wife were sat on our own - so far so good. An elderly couple came in and where did your waiter sit them? you guessed it, on a table 6" away, so we had to endure the man coughing and slurping his cereal!! Seriously, none of this has been exaggerated - you couldn't make it up! If you ask why didn't we get the room changed? We had just had an 8 hour drive to get to you and had unpacked, so packing up etc was not an option, but at this level, we should not have had to change a room that you say is ready for occupation. I don't believe that we're the first people to complain and also there was little point in getting in to it with the lady who checked us out. You advertise this hotel as a premier establishment, well, you need to mystery shop it and I have no doubt that you will agree with all of my comments. We certainly won't be using it again. The check-in was difficult and the room was correct as one room should of been cancelled. Upon trying to enter the room a we couldn't get in, a female staff member was walking passed so I asked her for help, at first it was like she didn't want to stop and then she sighed and came back. The room had lots of flies in and took us 30 mins to get them all out... the bar staff at the wedding reception didn't know what they were doing and what drinks were what when asked, also the larger was very eggy I asked for a pint to be changed 3 times and was still the same. I have experience in working in a bar and can assure you these lines haven't been cleaned properly. Breakfast on the Sunday, wasn't the best, they ran out of certain foods and had to ask for new beans for my children as the ones in the pot were Burt. All in all not a very great stay, I stay in many a hotel and have to say this was by far one if the worst I've stayed in, in quite sometime!!.

Very noisy between 12.30am and 2.30am people shouting and banging on doors, even though we went outside and asked them to be quiet. Weirdly it wasn't just one room but several. Again the room above us their children were running around the room from 6.30 for a good hour and a half. Instead of feeling refreshed we spent the whole of Sunday absolutely shattered. The room was clean enough but the shower tiles could do with a bleach. We also found the room very dark a main light would have been better. We have stayed several times before and probably will again but, we were really disappointed this time. We would have mentioned it on checkout but there didn't seem anyone about to talk to.

The experience was varied ... we had a Spa Break with Dinner and Breakfast. The food was great and the restaurant staff were very attentive and I would like to say thank you to them. The room was noisy, too warm and the window was small with no view. The bathroom was smelling of drains. We have stayed many times at the Dunkenhalgh but this room was not the usual standard. We ordered Breakfast to be served in the room and I was asked for five pounds for the tray service.... I asked if I could settle on my out but I had to pay there and then. The Breakfast was ok. Overall, we always love a stay over at the Dunkenhalgh and it is where we got engaged but it wasn't the best experience on this occasion.
