Very pleasant Hotel, rooms fine, but the campbed offered in the family room was so uncomfortable it was unusable. Paid for the superior upgrade but very little difference between the two rooms booked, some toiletries but no more, not worth the £15 per night upgrade cost. The restaurant is excellent, great food and attentive staff. Would we stay there again? Yes

« Disappointed and highly embarrassed »

Having had a first wonderful experience at the spa I decided to return for a well deserved break. I prebooked and paid in full for my stay and treatment so i could enjoy the relaxation of a worry free stay. On my second day after my treatment i was confronted and asked for full payment for the services I had booked. I explained that all had been prepaid and that records would show that no monies were outstanding and I was shocked to be questioned even further without the assistant even checking the records. The embarrassment this caused me was extremely uncomfortable as further staff became involved around the sales counter. I persistently insìsted that I had paid, to the point I had to make a phone call home to retreave a security code for the payment made for my stay. It wasn't long until the manager came to my room to apologise for his mistake and stressed their was nothing more he could do. After the whole experience and especially being on my own, I felt very vulnerable, intimidated and embarrassed, I just wanted to leave the spa, which I packed my belongings and returned home. On reflection, I am very sad to be treated in this manner and upset that I will not be returning to the spa.

The courtyard room that I stayed in was very cold and the bed was uncomfortable. Also the room service food was extremely poor quality, now the 2nd time I have had a poor food experience. Stayed at many 3 star hotels which were far superior to this alleged 4 star

All of the staff were polite and helpful. The spa treatments we received were excellent. The pool and saunas were clean and nice to relax in. Neither of us could fault the evening meal at all and the bed was very comfy.

Had a 2 day relaxing break. Had 2 25 mins treatment which was lovely. The spa area needs work doing to it as they was quite a lot of small tiles loose and had come off which could be dangerous!! The food was lovely and staff very polite.

Our accommodation was spot on like normal. Lovely comfy beds and a big room. In the morning we went down for breakfast which is where the let down started. The big coffee station has now been removed and its only TEA OR COFFEE available, My wife asked for some hot chocolate for out two girls and got told that's extra. The cold buffet we always had flavoured yoghurt pots available not this time. No cranberry Juice available for drinking. The Hot buffet we have had hash browns in the past. Not this time After asking a waiter he said sorry we've run out. I find this hard to believe on a Saturday. The bacon was very very salty. and something as simple as scrambled egg was not seasoned with salt or pepper. We then went to the leisure centre for a swim and use the facilities. Metal railings around the pool are rusting and look tired. When going in to the aromatherapy centre at 10 am the only room that was hot was the rock sauna all steam rooms and other treatments were tepid. And un-serviceable. The men's shower cubicle I mentioned to a member of staff about as on the inside of the door someone had smeared what looked like chocolate or Chocolate cake on the inside of the door or i hope that's what it was. As there were only females on duty she had to arrange for another member of staff to investigate. I felt physically sick by now and my family decided to leave the hotel. I'm lead to believe the Dunkenhalgh has gone from a 5 to 4 star. I feel they are very much lacking somethings right now and am unsure if i would return.

Rooms smelt musty, were cold and full of cobwebs - shower to 10 mins to get warm! When I asked for another room I was told that the other rooms would be noisy as there was a wedding party, however when I booked the rooms I was told not to worry about availability because there were 50 rooms free. Rooms 75 & 75 were booked. Breakfast - bananas black, cheese curling humous dry topping.

The staff in the hotel were very helpful and pleasant. The room (502) was luxurious, warm and inviting. It would be nice if there was an option of hard or soft pillows in the wardrobe as I found the pillows a bit hard for me. The room and hotel was also very clean. Food and drinks were very good. The only let down was the spa. People had left discarded towels, slippers and gowns plus the plastic slipper wrappers all over the changing rooms, around the pool and in the thermal area. It was unsightly and rude of the guests to do this which can't be helped but appeared as though staff had not been in all day to tidy up. The hot stone massage was also a disappointment. After the initial massage, the masseur moved to get the stones and was away from my back for over 3 minutes and then returned and dropped a stone on my head which then rolled onto my cheek and was extremely hot. She did not apologise. She left my back unattended a number of times to sort the stones which resulted in my 40 minute massage being around 25-30 minutes long. I know she had to get the warm stones every so often however they should be situated better so you're not left waiting in the middle of the massage. The masseur dealing with my mum kept yawning throughout and never asked if the stones were too hot or if the massage was ok. The male staff member on the spa reception was lovely and very helpful.
