« disgusted »

Filthy bathroom, black mould on ceiling, musty smell in room, bedding smelt musty. Room had not been dusted, stains down front of furniture. Food during event poor. Not enough bar staff. Inexperienced waiting staff.

« Pleasant stay »

Good service from the start, very pleasant staff. The hotel is a lovely, old and impressive building. Rooms need upgrading a bit and definitely need better lighting. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice for everyone.

« Disappointing on every level »

My girlfriend and I stayed two nights as we were invited to attend a charity dinner which took place there. I am not sure of the original purpose of the building as there was no indication about its history etc. Nothing on reception, nothing in the room and none of the staff had a clue about the surrounding area either. I asked one about the Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington, which possesses a collection of Tiffany glass of world renown , and he had never even heard of it! I also asked about the length of time to get to Chorley and he was equally bemused. Does anyone have any idea about the surrounding area?! The reception itself was dark and dull. In my view, it requires a complete makeover. In fact, the entire hotel could do with renovation. We stayed in an extension to the main body of the hotel which was functional at best. The room itself was OK, although my girlfriend mentioned that there was no toilet brush in the bathroom and mould growing near the curtains. She also advised that the spa had missing or cracked tiles and that service there was not especially welcoming, albeit the treatments were of a good quality. I was surprised that the only literature in the room concerned Accor services. I think there were four brochures in total, one of which was advertising various hospitality deals over Xmas period etc. They were charging London rates and I must admit I was not remotely tempted. On a separate note, I was not impressed by the food. Breakfast resembled a canteen with people stocking up with so much food, I thought there must be a run on the supermarkets! And £12.50 for a very ordinary club sandwich? No thanks. The raw materials of the hotel show its potential but it requires investment from Accor in its infrastructure and overall customer experience.

« Spa Break at Mecure Dunkenhalgh »

Great overnight spa break at the Dunkenhalgh. The staff were extremely friendly, polite, nothing too much trouble, not had great customer service like this in a hotel for a long time. The spa staff were also really nice and friendly and the treatments were amazing, no rush just relaxing. Food lovely. The only concern was the room, most of the radiators were not working and the room was cold however there was a portable heater so that was fine. Taps were loose but they worked but the wallpaper was handing down from the wall and revealed a lot of black damp on the wall. We did mention to the receptionist at check out that this needed attention. The bed was huge and very comfortable which was a massive bonus. Overall we really enjoyed this spa break, just fix the little things in the room so that it does not put people off staying and getting bad reviews. We will be back though - thanks, especially to all the lovely staff.

« Not brilliant »

The Hotel wasn't warm enough and the lighting in the bedrooms was very poor. We had a good evening meal and all the staff were very nice and helpful. The breakfast experience was marred by a failure to keep the food topped up. This seemed to be an ongoing problem that morning.

« Good but could be better. »

The checking and staff were excellent. The breakfast was good. Only downside was the room was a bit dated and not as clean as other hotels we have stayed at.

From unfriendly staff to VERY poor cleanliness, this hotel is in need of a vast overhaul in both customer service and cleaning and maintenance.

« Crap Customer Sevice »

Well, i booked the wrong year through hotels.com 31/10/18 instead of 31/10/18 i went to rebooked - accepted Get to hotel speak to manager about a refund for a year in advance they said yes no problems we will speak to hotels.com Hotels.com say - we cant confirm as the hotel will not accept this. Quite frankly i come most weeks to the area and will never use your hotel again for this reason alone.

« Disappointing »

The receptionist was more interested in talking to his computer than greeting us. I have hearing aids which normally good but I constantly had to ask him to repeat to a point when I became very annoyed at his lack of effort. First impression are most important and set the tone for the visit. The service staff were very attentive and the room was lovely.

wonderful. we had a baby & a 3 year old in our party of 7+1. all the staff were great and even took time to ask about our day. they also stopped to chat to our grandchildren. They loved it too. sarah & a young asian boy were just the best in the bar giving us ideas of what to order fir the kids too. everyone was very patient.
