We found the room(supposedly one of the best) to be poky and darkish. Bedside light was not working and the basin plug also did not work. There was no drawer space and the only shelf space was above the hanging rail. The light was fixed the next day but the basin plug although better still leaked. The bed was comfortable but the foam pillow was very firm and the other (feather?) almost flat. The bath plug mechanism was very difficult to reach even though I have reasonably long arms. The toilet tissue was small and very thin and disintegrated when damp thus even when used double your hand got mucky. There was no directory in the room giving times etc. I booked lunch via email for the second day but there was no record of it at the hotel. This lunch we had to have in the reception area! The food was good. At breakfast the cereals were in kilner jars and in the poor lighting I could not tell the difference between cornflakes, frosties and crunch nut. There were no labels. No labels also on the Jams. the 4/6 pot of tea (for one person only had 1 teabag and was thus very weak we managed to get more the next day. Some staff seemed genuinely pleased to be of help (Sandie) others appeared to be going through the motions.

Good location. Clean and comfortable. Real character and charm. Somewhat noisy if you have room fronting street. An excellent buffet breakfast. Staff really went out of their way to help when we had a luggage issue.

Delighted with hotel position and car park. Sad that there were no twins with walk in showers. ( Wife could not shower - bath side too high.) Weary (poor) lighting in the room. Not able to read in bed because of the gloom.

While it was a hotel that had a nice history, it was difficult for an older couple to navigate. Had I known there was no elevator and room safe, I would not have chosen this hotel.

The assistance offered at reception was variable.The response to one question was "I don't know" rather than an attemt to find the information I required. A bizarre event: returning to my room(224) on sunday evening, imagine my suprise when my travel alarm clock was no longer on my bedside table.I wonder if it had been accidently knocked off/under the bed but I couldn't see it. These instances apart my room was excellent and majority of staff very helpful

As an Accor member I found the experience of the White Hart did not match my expectations. The room I was given, although clean, was small and shabby, as were the corridors and other public spaces. The bathroom, although also clean was far below the quality I expected. Water pressure was woefully inadequate, to the point that it was impossible to wash properly. The heating in the room was on full on my arrival which made unpacking and settling in an uncomfortable experience. The bed was fine.

I was very disappointed with my stay I think pictures on website are misleading I thought my room 116 looked shabby and dated, the doors looked as though someone had started to paint them and had not finished. The carpet looked old and dirty. The bathroom needed a bit of care and attention I paid extra for what I was told was an upgraded room , there is no way 116 could have been recently refurbished. The room spoilt my stay and l feel as though I have been mislead . On the whole very expensive stay

It was good, nice and close to all amenities. It did not have air conditioning in the room even though the website state it does. That’s why I booked this location. Housekeeping said they didn’t speak English and had to talk to front desk instead.

Everything was fine, however the floors are very squicky and I could hear someone in the room above walking around in the early hours. Otherwise, the location, hotel's cleanliness etc. were absolutely fine

Food excellent. Bed excellent. Room small. View terrible. Noise of fans irritating and was supposed to go off at 10.00 but stayed on till 11.00pm. No help given with luggage. No lift. Expensive as no discount for room size or noise given. No warning when booking that this was the option. Need to improve customer care at the start!!!!

Ok ....room was fine and check in efficient. It was noisy outside as on the main road, closed windows and switched the air con on. This was fine for a while but then made horrendous noises and woke us up twice. An adjacent room had very rowdy guests who also kept us awake think they had come back from the pub! Had to get up at 4am to leave for the Ferry had a total of 2 hours undisturbed sleep. I checked in online so I could leave quickly in the morning, the night porter did not know how this worked so made me wait 10 mins while he tried checking me out ( I explained that my card was preauthorised but he was having none of it....training needed I think!)

The room we were assigned (229) was right next to a ventilation chimney which was exceedingly noisy, so much so that we had to request an alternative. We were moved to Room 218 this was better but still we were very much aware of noise from the air conditioning units. While we appreciate this is an old coaching inn and no doubt subject to planning regulations the noise from the ventilation system detracted from our enjoyment of our stay.
