We felt welcome and comfortable. The hotel is in a very convenient situation and the secure parking is a great advantage. It is nice to stay in a historic hotel with such a pretty enclosed garden. The staff, too, are friendly and helpful. We love staying at the White Hart, especially in the peaceful room we were given this time.

Overall I had a very good stay as normal however on returning to my room on Thursday night the electronic key did not work. It took over half an hour to fix it.

« We did not enjoy our stay as much as we have in other Mercure hotels. »

We arrived about 6 p.m., had to ring for attention at Reception and I felt we were disturbing the receptionist who came out from the office. We appreciated that we were given a room (107) where we would be less disturbed by the disco on the Friday and Saturday evenings, but it looked to be in need of some refurbishment, and had no minibar fridge or even a complimentary bottle of water. Because of a reception on the Friday evening and a wedding on the Saturday, the entrance area was crowded at times which made entering and leaving the hotel awkward as we had to manoeuvre our way through the guests. We were not offered dinner or told where the bar was, but the breakfasts were excellent. And the young man who took my booking over the telephone was very helpful.

It was fine, the bed was comfortable. Room pretty small for what was charged and our teenagers were in another room quite a long way away. Originally there had been assigned a room on another floor but were at least moved to be on the same floor. Allocated tables with the wedding party for breakfast but just not enough seats for everyone so we ended up being rushed while the rest of the dining room was nearly empty which was a little frustrating.

I bring to your attention my review on trip advisor which summates my disappointment in your hotel: I stayed in room 231 for 2 nights - not particularly professional on reception upon arrival. A room costing over £100/night was old and shabby with respect to decor and paintwork showed patches of new/old paint throughout. Faucet on the sink with chipping and margins of taps were grimy. No aircon in the room - despite other rooms having aircon (no pre-warning or reduction in room cost - actually cost more than a room my friend was staying in on the same trip) housekeeping had just opened a window to try to vent the heat in the room. The remote control had no backing over the batteries and the fridge, though constantly on was tepid so completely pointless. Very disappointed considering the cost, wouldn't recommend or go back since youre paying premium for sub-par. Oh, and they charge £6.50 a night for car parking - no warning they charge guests for this facility but happily advertise car parking for guests on their website. I hope you address these issues for future guests and look forward to your reply.

The room I was originally given was noisy. The hotel staff were happy about changing the room. The eggs florentine for breakfast were great. Friendly customer service. An excellent chambermaid showed me how to switch on the television in my room.

My room was big, but very dated and the bathroom was definately not up to 4 star standard. Was very scruffy full of marks which made it look grubby. We did not use the bath because of this. Tv in the room did not work. Breakfast and dinner in the hotel was excellent.

« Disappointing »

I was very disappointed with my experience. I’ve booked this hotel and took out membership so that when I travel with my business I will have somewhere that I know will be comfortable and provide good value for money. This is not the case here. My hotel room was small and dark and did not meet the standard I would expect from a room labelled “privilege”. The plug sockets did not all work properly and when I spoke to Jade about this on reception she said I just had to “shove the plug in hard“. My bedspread was dirty and when I informed reception of this and my concern that this meant the room had not been cleaned properly I was told they would speak to housekeeping in the morning. There was no offer to swap my room or have housekeeping come and clean it again. Based on this experience I would not recommend this hotel to others.
