« Lovely hotel »

Lovely central hotel with cosy rooms and a very nice design. Close to the cathedral. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was nice and clean. The breakfast excellent and the venue has a fantastic garden to relax.

« Very average! »

We booked 3 rooms, 2 at £155 and 1 at £145 (single person), but all rooms were very different i.e. 1 was very small, no chair and looked out onto A/C condenser units that were noisy. 1 was large, but didn't have any A/C and with the temperature in the 30's it was uncomfortable as the windows could only be opened about 4" each. The other room was air conditioned but the bed didn't have a proper sheet on it, just a wierd top cover that didn't fit over the sides of the mattress leaving it visible, almost as if a top sheet had been forgotten! The last time we stayed, we had a lovely breakfast in the room opening out over the courtyard/garden area and it was lovely, but this time breakfast was in a different room at the front of the hotel with no air in it. The service at breakfast was non existant as well, again, last time we had a menu offering extra items away from the buffet style help yourself, but we weren't offered this at all. Also, we were only given tea and coffe for 3 when there were 5 of us, 2 were late attending and no one ever appeared agin to ask if more was wanted.

« Clean & Friendly Hotel »

Be aware parking costs are extra, which staff may inform. At least room AC was working , which was essential when temperatures are hitting 30C+ Again Mercure needs to address employing more staff across their chain.

« Lovely stay »

As with all Mercure hotels we have stayed at the staff are helpful and friendly. The room we had was in a very good state of repair, comfortable and spacious. The fridge in the room was really useful and it was a nice surprise to have a cosy little living space with a sofa and another TV. Our breakfast was excellent and our vegan tearjerkerrequirements were well catered for. All in all it was fabulous and we plan to go again.

Nice girl on desk checked us in, told us that we had prepaid for dinner that evening and breakfast. We didn't think that we had and checked later with someone else who confirmed that we hadn't prepaid for breakfast. Room ok but so hot. At dinner the dining room was closed for a private meeting we were told that we had to eat in the bar which had a TV in it football on. I asked if there was anywhere else but was told no. I had a walk around and discovered the courtyard so returned to the bar and asked if we could eat there, yes we could. Food was ok but a bit bland. Next morning on check out we were given a bill for the two dinners which we had prepaid and charged for two larger glasses of wine when my wife had had and asked for two small glasses. It took about 20 minutes to correct our account even though we had a print off of our reservation. The Hotel is in a great location and a decent car park. If I stayed again I wouldn't prepay for the evening meal and would pay for any drinks cash in order to avoid the Hotel mistakes. A bit of training required I think.

« Generally good value for money; but spending a little more could have made the experience even better: eg a face flannel, and bottled water in the fridge. »

Entirely satisfactory; but (see above) it could have been improved at modest further expense

I had booked this hotel many months ago and when doing so requested a Privilege room which was in a quiet location. I checked in on line which meant I was expected & to quote “ your key will be waiting “. The non smiling girl on reception obviously didn’t understand on line check in as she immediately asked for my credit card etc., . We went to the room allocated which was on the 1st floor, overlooking a set of traffic lights at a junction on the busy main road! Not exactly the quiet room requested. Immediately went back to reception to complain, another more helpful lady showed me a different room which was indeed quiet which we then took. What’s the point of having a request box on the booking website if nobody pays any attention to it!! Other staff fine very helpful at breakfast which was excellent.

« Worst hotel stay in forever »

Salisbury is a wonderful city however my one night was pretty horrible due to there being no ac in the room. Just having a fan would have helped considerably as the outside air temp was around 30°C. I think I slept more on the transatlantic economy flight the previous night. Some sleep was eventually achieved when I soaked a towel in cold water and layed under it. Not the best way to prepare for important work meetings.

Jessica P. Business - 08/07/2018 AccorHotels certified review

Sadly this was not a good experience. The room was very hot with no air conditioning and only a fan. Made much worse by the inability to turn off the towel rail In the bathroom which was boiling hit. Also, we were a large group who tried to enjoy an drink in the courtyard later on. The service for dr8nks was poor with a real sense that the hotel simply did. Not sent to encourage guedt drinks.

« Not sure how this hotel is a 4 star »

The receptionist Carris was quite rude seemed like she didn’t want to be there, upon arrival I was literally given a key and told where my room was. Breakfast wasn’t explained I had to ask. The room wasn’t overalls clean spiders in the room and the bathroom was tired and unclean except the toilet. In the morning I went down for breakfast. The gentleman asked my room number and all he said was ‘sit wherever you like’ he didn’t explain anything especially that I could order off the menu. No one came and asked what I would like so I just went to the help yourself breakfast and made do with that. Upon checkout there was a different receptionist. I didn’t catch her name but she was blonde and was much more professional however didn’t ask how my stay was she just took my key. Overall I wasn’t overalls satisfied. Bad night sleep due to road noise also. Definitely not a 4 star hotel and wouldn’t be happy to stay again

« Disappointing »

Warm welcome from staff at reception, great staff in the restaurant. Disappointing as fridge and Nespresso machine were broken, reception said parts were on order. Bar staff kept disappearing and couldn't be found.

« Usual service »

Always try and stay here when visiting Salisbury and once again was not disappointed with location, price, staff. However lack of proper air conditioning in room and an out of tune TV was a bit frustrating. Also complimentary bottle of water had clearly been opened previously and returned to fridge. Other than these minor issues, another delightful stay.

« Needs some work »

Check in was slow, only one receptionist. Room looks very tired. Fridge did not work. Requested extra bed not in place for arrival. Staff promised email from general manager which has not happened. Overall poor.

« Generally very good »

Excellent breakfast, friendly staff. The bathroom sink tap was loose and the shower pressure was poor, both need a plumber to look at and fix. I did mention to reception on check out.

Comfortable and enjoyable as an American visitor to Salisbury for the first time.

« Great location and a lovely room »

Check in was functional but no eye contact or smile. The room was lovely - good size, bright and airy with a comfortable 4 poster bed, decent sized desk, good wifi and plenty of power sockets. Good selection at breakfast. Great location - a few minutes walk from cathedral close.

« Outstanding service but hotel needs improvements to fulfill its potentential »

My boyfriend and I stayed only one night, mainly looking for a week-end out of London. I mixed dates up when booking this room but the staff was very helpful and offered to help me in advancing my date of stay. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a nice lady who advised us a nice walk (with great views and great pubs) that have been a great experience and we are very thankful for it. The room was Prestige but seemed quite old, with stains on the floor and the furniture (quite surprising to use given that the rest of the hotel was quite vintage but still great). We liked having coffee in the room but would have enjoyed having a bit more (to be fair, we did not ask at the reception either). We barely slept because of the noise from the road, the corridor, the people upstairs that we heard walking and the bar downstairs (probably because there was a match down there). However, the bed itself was very comfortable. Breakfast was quite good (some things such as fruits may have been fresher), with nice choice, and the à la carte part was a great bonus. We did not go to the bar or restaurant (a bit overpriced) but we liked the small terrasse and the historical character of the place. Finally, it was a very pleasant stay thanks to your amazing staff but we would not come back because we consider that the main point of an hotel is a good night of sleep and because the room standards did not meet what we expected given the price.

« Comfortable establishment in central location »

Enjoyed spacious room and location of hotel. Unlike in Australia where most parking is free, this was a negative for us.

« Nice hotel - great garden for dining »

We enjoyed our four-night stay at Mercure/Salisbury. The room was comfortable and away from street noise. The only problem was that the toilet required great effort to flush. The best part of the hotel was the garden where we ate our dinner each night and lunch at least one day. The restaurant food was also great. The hotel staff were all very friendly and we got to know them during our stay.
