« Very average Novotel. »

Stayed here for 3 nights at the start of our trip around South Island. Rooms are cramped and extremely dated (very old / worn furniture). Bathroom sink area is tiny and really not what I would have expected from an Accor. There was little recognition for my loyalty as platinum member towards the Accor group here. No upgrades available. Even parking is charged extra @$15/night (!). No lounge for elite members and apart from the free welcome drink, there was no free minibar in the room etc (which other Novotels will often do to compensate for there being no lounge access). There was not even decent coffee inside the bedrooms. Pretty poor overall and definitely not worth paying $300/night... Reception staff are very nice and friendly. Restaurant staff too. Had to wait each morning for the chef to turn up at the egg counter - he was always busy in the back kitchen ... the breakfast choice was reasonable for a Novotel and quality good + food was hot. The juice machine is a nice touch. There should nevertheless be a much better coffee machine available for latte / cappuccino etc. I have to return to Christchurch for my last night of my trip and will be staying at Novotel once again on 15 December. Hope my stay will be a more comfortable one.

We strive to make our guests feel welcome and recognised at every opportunity, however, unfortunately it appears that on this occasion we fell short. At Novotel Christchurch we only have two Executive Suites which is the highest room category above the Executive Room you booked - the suites were unfortunately not available during the dates of your stay. As you have highlighted we do not have a members lounge on site but encourage all our guests to use their complimentary drink vouchers at our hotel restaurant and bar on level one. I am pleased to hear that you were well looked after by our friendly staff both at reception and in the restaurant. « Fantastic service from staff »

Special thanks to concierge who helped me with my parking when I was feeling stressed. Thanks also to kind lady on reception who gave my grandson a small gift on checkout..very unexpected. Room comfortable and great view. Only complaint was that all the pillows much too big and firm for me so I had to use some of my clothing.

« Our stay was brief and our experience was ok. »

We arrived early, as we were attending the Wine & Food festival in town. Our bags were taken to be held until we arrived back to hotel at around 6pm, when we were given our key and headed up to our room. The room was ok, nothing special, just ok. The bed was extremely hard and we both found it difficult to sleep, also the air conditioner was noisy so we turned it off which made the room very hot. We did not see the complimentary cheese board in the fridge until the next day and the dockets for free drinks were only found on check out.

It was OK, Room was clean and tidy but it was noisy, and I find the place where I need to make tea and brush my teeth quite unhealthy. The shower had about 2 settings: Burning myself to death, or freezing to death. The top part kept leaking. Hated showering.

The stay was consistent with others this year. I must admit I did notice that even though it was my 4th stay this year and I am an Accor Plus Gold member, I was not welcomed back, and I was asked if I was a member at check in (my number was already on the profile).

« Good but not great, room is starting to feel a bit dated. »

Not having the parking out the front of the hotel (it is now closed off court) made me not want to use hotel parking and that is a big pain as I had to park in the paid public parking (although a lot cheaper). Accommodation was good, the bed was terrible, the mattress gave both of us back aches. It feels as if the mattress has sagged and the bedding was not supportive. This visit I didn't have any turn down service (I did 2 years ago when I stayed there for a few weeks a couple of times), it might just be something that is no longer done. The Service from all the staff as amazing as always. I think I will probably stay elsewhere next visit, especially now that there are other options nearby (Crown Plaza etc).

Friendly staff at reception and restaurant, cannot fault. Room condition was acceptable although the carpets need a decent deep clean. Annoying that leaving room and taking keycard disables power points - cannot leave a laptop or mobile phone to recharge while going outside. Facilities in room OK, nothing outstandingly good or bad about them. Breakfast facilities very nice, good choice and decent quality

« Good stay overall but some concerns »

The first night we noticed the small round table was half-broken (the bolt was loose, which made the table really unstable). Though they soon fixed it, this couldn’t have occurred if clearers checked thoroughly. Also we asked for a taxi in the early morning so we can catch the flight, but the time we wanted to arrive at the airport was misunderstood as that we wanted a taxi at the hotel. I hoped the receptionist listened to us more carefully and double checked. The memo handed to the morning shift staff did not sufficiently reflect our request. Lastly I wished wifi was free. Except those issues, the room was clean, quiet, and had a good view. The location was also good.

Comfortable stay with friendly, helpful staff. Only problem was our room was uncomfortably warm (even after the AC was attended to by maintenance) Also had to keep ringing for extra towel for room. (booked for 2 ad & 1 child in room) & only 2 towels left.
