« Always good but very disappointed especially as I had booked for 16 guests no hot water on our first morning everyone had to have cold showers some of my guests were very unhappy »

You expect hot water from a hotel in 2018??? I am a mercure member and recommended this hotel to my 15 guests so it was embarrassing to say the least

We all had a reasonably good experience, except for one issue when on Saturday 16th June, there was no hot water throughout the hotel, which of course meant, no showers! The hotel reception staff were apologetic, however there was no mention of any type of compensation. Of of our party did speak specifically to the reception staff and we were provided with a voucher for one drink from the bar. Maybe something that needs to be thought about for the future.

The rooms are nice and the balcony in the privilege room was great. The staff in general were helpful but dining experience was poor. We paid for 2 course evening meal. There were only 2 starters and a limited selection of mains. The food took 45 minutes to arrive and the sauce on the steak was inedibly salty. The waitress was apologetic and we were offered free drinks. It then took a further 45 for the desserts. The food overall was average.

Stayed many times previously but this time we were meeting family so used hotel only as base to spend nights. Room was ready at check in, clean and given upgrade was a pleasant and welcome surprise. Hot water bit hit and miss in shower but overall no real complaints. We did not utilise either the bar or restaurant facilities on this particular occasion.

« Lift not working.....again »

I stayed here a couple of years ago and one of the lifts wasn't working which only left one lift for guests and cleaning staff, meaning you could have a long wait before you got the lift. I stayed here last year and the same lift was out of order. I stayed here in 2018 and the same lift was still not working. Not a great problem for me but it is for my wife who has mobility problems. Has this lift ever worked? Other than that it is a nice hotel and the staff were friendly Nice hotel and the staff were friendly

We loved the location of the hotel, the style and cleanliness of the public areas and bedrooms, and the friendly helpful staff. We also enjoyed the breakfast and drinks in the bar in the evening. We had a room overlooking the water which was lovely, but the pillows were thin and hard and not at all comfortable. It was also slightly annoying when we returned to find each of our keycards no longer worked. (I had kept my card well away from my phone and my husband’s 120 miles away!) All in all we had a very pleasant experience and will recommend.

Another great stay. Just a couple of minor points. We had two privilege rooms, one was considerably bigger than the other which was surprising. Robe had a tie missing and no throw on one of the beds. Just wished the beds were minimum king size though. However this wouldn’t stop us staying at this lovely hotel that is so well placed in Bristol. We will be back, thank you.

Firstly, we were pleased with the room that was allocated to us and the welcome at the reception desk. The staff including the cleaners were very friendly and attentive. Just a few shortcomings. There was no information in the room regarding restaurant times and check out times. We had a coffee machine also with no instructions. When we tried to operate this, it malfunctioned and leaked everywhere. With regard to breakfast. There was little vegetarian food on offer. There was no mention made of any being available or indeed on any menu. There was also no mention of porridge and the fruits available were large chunks of pineapple and mango. Only of use with yogurt and not palatable with cereals. I asked for berries to be told non available. In the end I ate a yogurt and a limited luke warm breakfast of egg, beans and mushrooms. Also coffee is from an urn!! All for £12. Really poor value for money. I would definitely stay again, but would not use the restaurant for breakfast, there are great coffee shops close by selling excellent brunches. Staff were great though. So thumbs up there!

Staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfortable, bed wonderful. Website for booking is confusing – I booked what I thought was a balcony room overlooking the river (as the photo clearly showed the balcony room), but was not initially given a balcony. However, that was sorted out quickly, efficiently and very kindly by the people on reception, for which thank you.
