I've learnt from staying here that the standard of accommodation in Ibis hotels is inconsistent. We regularly stay in one in Málaga, Spain which is modern with good quality rooms. It's clear as you enter the York Ibis that they live off drunken stag and hen do participants and race goers as little attempt is made to provide pleasant accommodation. Our room had a stained duvet and a carpet which was split and lifted dangerously. Breakfast was mediocre and staff not very helpful.

Clean room but basic, tired and very noisy, with creaky floor above and THE most uncomfortable pillows I’ve ever used in my life.

Would have been perfect but one of beds was a sofa bed even though I requested twin beds

Strangers clothing, dirty loo and cold...

From the first moment, this was not a good experience. I had been travelling all day from France, was tired and cold. When I walked into the room I was given, I found a man’s hoodie on the floor. This alerted me to the state of the room and whether it had been cleaned after the last occupant. I pulled back the bedding, which seemed fine, as did the towels. However, the loo had been used and not flushed. A horrible start. Despite having checked for cleanliness I couldn’t relax. The room felt cold, and fiddling with the controls made no difference. I went to the bar and ordered a glass of wine which I took back to my room. The person o. Reception and the woman who served me were genuinely perplexed about the hoodie and the loo. They kindly gave me a glass of wine. The hotel is undergoing renovation - I don’t know whether this could account for the strange state of the room or not. Took ages to get to sleep because of cold and worrying about the cleanliness of everything. Also there was an adjoining door to the next room which meant the soundproofing was not good, but fortunately the person next door was fairly quiet.

very expensive tired hotel

I have stayed in Ibis before and all has been good. this hotel is very very tired and very expensive because of that. Friends had to change rooms due to a dangerous loose carpet and dirty bedlinen. The single beds were narrow and not the normal single bed size.

I had a wonderful stay on early May bank holiday. Checked in online which made things quick and easy, reception staff were warm and friendly. Had a blocked sink in bathroom I reported this and the issue was sorted immediately, nothing was too much bother. Our room was very clean...all in all an excellent budget hotel

Checked in approx 4.00pm ... no hot water ... temporarily Next morning no Hot water ... waited untill 11.00am ... still no luck... had to go sightseeing ... finally had a Hot shower that night .. Hotel also under renovation... I did not know until we arrived

Very disappointed and embarrassed.I booked the hotel for 4 of us having used Ibis hotels before. My friends had to change rooms due to an unsafe carpet and dirty bed linen. . The single beds were narrow and we only had 1 towel each. Our rooms were very tired and in need of renovation/ decoration.

The hotel was a short walk away from the city/station. There was rennovation works ongoing in the hotel. All the members of staff who we encountered were polite and pleasant. The room was spacious and had everything needed for a short stay, however the room did seem a bit dated, but could be getting updated soon. There was lots of noise from the other customers who didn't have children, coming in at all hours (lucky them). Maybe familes could be moved away from the main entrances/lifts?

Great breakfast! But the room was damp on arrival to the hotel, they changed our room to a new one which was just ok! You can do a lot better than this! The staff are very nice though and did everything they could to help.

They room was well equipped. The shower drain was too slow and showers had to be taken in 2 minute increments to allow the very shallow tray to drain, or I would have flooded the room. My parents in the next room had the same issue. The breakfast was good. The on-going construction felt like something we should have been told about when booking.
