« Budget hotel with a premium price tag based on location »

It's a place to stay for a night and that's about it. Room was very basic and tired. Bathroom door was warped as shower flooded the wet room, bathroom was dirty with mould and mildew everywhere and a dirty shower curtain (pointless given it was a wet room). My stay met it's purpose and to be honest I was impressed with being able to leave luggage there during the day and check in later. I was also impressed that when I left my new phone charger there I was able to get in touch via email with a quick response and get it posted out to me. However, very disappointed that when it arrived it had been swapped for a old grubby version rather than the new one I had left behind. Disappointing!

« There’s no air conditioning in the summer season. »

If you’re planning stay here in the summer season, better think about it twice. As there’s no air conditioning nor fan in the room. We visited here in jul and checked in after 6pm. The 1st room they assigned to us was facing the main street and temperature inside this room was hotter than outside street temperature. And there’s 3 steps to climb up before reaching bathroom. Luckily, they have another room which is facing residential area for us to change. And the temperature for the 2nd room is more acceptable than the 1st room although still no air conditioning. But at least, upper window can be opened from this room.

I would have liked more of a French experience. The meal sheet even left out the e in tartare! On the third night of my stay the room service was incomplete, though this did not really matter. Staff were all helpful and friendly. First breakfast coincided with a large group all breakfasting at the same time, but subsequently all was calm.

A drastically over-priced minimalist hotel. Facilities bare barrack style. Not even a net at the window. Plastic furniture (one chair), no bath, soap dispenser - about it. Public areas- less comfort and decor than a railway ticket office. Lift shuts before you have much chance to get it, knocking things out of your hands (entrance adorned by plastic cactus). After outrageous price per room, extra charge for breakfast - buffet of dried out bake beans, sawdust sausages and what looks like straw or paper gratings (dried out scrabbled egg). Hardly any fruit - bits might be left floating around in dark liquid. No table service. Make your own coffee and teas with packets and machines. Experience: awful. A true rip off.

Staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was reasonable for the price paid. Room was not clean lots of dust and floor hadn't been hoovered. Shower didn't work properly as there was little cold water coming through it causing the shower to be very hot. Room was very stuffy there was some sort of AC/heater which only operated on a fan mode.

My wife and I had a three day stay at the hotel, early July 2018. At that time there was an Heatwave in the UK. The room had no Air Conditioning and only two small windows for opening which made the stay very uncomfortable. I asked at reception if there were any fans that we could borrow and was initially told "No - we only have 5 in the whole building and there all in use!". I stated that something had to be done because the room was too hot to be able to stay in. The gentleman then went to a store cupboard and produced a small 2 speed fan, which we tried but it really made no difference. We had one dinner in the hotel restaurant , fish and chips with a drink which cost £17 each! This comprised of a very small piece of fish, a small pot of mushy peas and a small wire basket of chips, a complete rip off. In comparison we had our other two main means at Weatherspoons in York City Centre, meals were three times as big and only £8.50 with a drink. Our room (no 213) had a low level electric socket which was loose so could not be used. Although the staff were friendly, they were not over helpful and didn't really appear to be "Customer facing!". I choose the hotel due to its proximity to the train station, but should I return to York I would look to book elsewhere.

« Reasonable location but below general standard I expect from Ibis »

Started badly with hotel shown incorrectly on website map so we walked an extra 20minutes just trying to find it. Reception slightly down at heel and up and down passage way to bedroom did not inspire much confidence. Bedrooms, there were 2 of us, were barely adequate with no way to open a window and 28 degrees.

This hotel is in a good location and the reception area/bar and eating area look the part. Unfortunately that’s where it ends. We booked in for a 2 night stay here while visiting York and the races, the room we were given was extremely hot, stuffy dirty and on the small side. The windows had either been glued, nailed or painted shut which in itself is an Health & Saftey issue when you have no escape route in case of fire, although had there been a fire we probably wouldn’t have noticed seeing as the room was so hot!. We were offerered another room by reception but this was even worse and in this room the heating fan was on. We declined this room, we did ask for a fan and was told one would be put in the room yet when we returned there was no fan so asked at reception and was told sorry they’ve all been taken. When we originally booked and up to yesterday this hotel stated that it did have air cooling yet when checking today this has been crossed through. A positive is the breakfast was really good, the negative here is that we were initially charged for 8 breakfasts when only 2 guest had this on the first morning. We have stayed at another Ibis Hotel previously and were more than satisfied with it, unfortunately unless there are massive changes here I can’t see that it would be somewhere we would return to.

The room we got was in the 2nd floor which is kinda OK cause it's less hot than the upper floor. Nice clean and comfy beds. All you can eat breakfast! Reasonable for the price. :)

« Not the best IBIS »

Disappointing. Most IBIS & IBIS/Styles hotels I have used in UK, France & Switzerland are clean, fresh and modern throughout, with many in purpose-built, modern sites which are ideal for a 2* or 3* hotel. Unfortunately York is not one of those - it is tired, worn and the interior and fittings all need love. Thankfully my faith in IBIS was restored the following day at Nottingham site which is spot-on!
