« Grubby dirty hotel »

Dirty, poor housekeeping, poor maintenance. Double glazing with condensation between the glass panes, trim around door missing, hairs in bathroom. Also as a silver card member the 'free drink' offered was one drink per room. I booked 2 rooms each with 2 people and was embarrassed to be asked to pay for 2 of the overpriced drinks. I was also sent the same invoice twice on departure (same room). Last but not least the housekeeping people tried to enter the room twice whilst we were still in the room believing we had checked out. By the way I am the person who booked the rooms - Paul Swan, but since we filled in your appalling on-line check in, all correspondence from you has been addressed to my daughter.

The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. Upon arrival, warm smiles and friendly greetings was given and I have been acknowledged as the Le Club Platinum member. With Free welcome drink vouchers and Early check in. The hotel is walking distance to the local attraction such as York Minster, The Shambles, Shambles Market, Barker wall etc. However, the shortfall of Ibis York City Centre is the room telephone not provided. When you need to speak to the front desk to request for toilet amnesties or extra pillows, I am required to go down all the way to the reception to request. I would suggest that Ibis York considering installing telephone at all the guest rooms. Overall stay with Ibis York City Centre was a good one. Thank you Ibis York for the warm hospitality.

There were no problems really, the room was small for the size of the bed and the heating control was in a position where my arm caught it each time I got out of bed to the extent I had a bruise, it could be my clumsiness but I think it was just lack of space. We were really disappointed to be charged £7 per night to park in the hotel car park, we've stayed here a few times so know that this is new. We travel all over Britain on weekend breaks and have never been charged to park in a private hotel car park when we are there as guests. This would definitely put us off booking a long weekend at this hotel.

Brief won't cover it! Room in a very poor state, cleaning service left a lot to be desired! Even after reporting it and assistant manager doing some cleaning himself straightaway the following day clean service was poor and plumbing problems not fixed at all. I have photos I can send too. A pubic hair in the shower indicated it hadn't been cleaned, the shower train stained,and the bathmat had a dirty mark, could have been a footprint. Fitting round bathroom mirror peeling away, surface round sink not very well wiped and same around toilet on the floor. I used disinfectant wipes before using as the whole place felt as if on grubby cloth had been used to do a cursory wipe on all surfaces. The plug was stuck in e sink and there was no lever at the back of the sink to push it up. Each morning the cleaner pushed it down so we had to call a staff member to release it, something the cleaner should have recognised and reported to maintenance. Another annoyance. Dirty marks all over the wall under the window which Karin had no problem removing so why not the room cleaner and even the complimentary tea sachet supply was 'sparse' to say the least, we had to go downstairs to the dining room to get some! I was offered to move to another room but was too exhausted and my sister was in the the next room. My sisters room next to me wasn't vacuumed on arrival or for several days after. The assistant manager Karin was most apologetic and offered me 2000 points on my Accor card but I am afraid this is a poor acknowledgement. I have used Ibis and Novotel exclusively over the past seven years in several countries and while on occasion have commented, usually with fulsome praise this experience has left me very disappointed. Leanne, a familiar face at the front desk is always lovely as all the front of house staff we met on this visit but whoever is in charge of cleanliness needs to be retraining the general cleaners. I hope the areas I did not see such as the kitchen are cleaner than the rooms. Any one of these things I would ignore but all together makes for a bad experience.

Very helpful staff gave full attention, when I asked about something the girls were very quick to respond with genuine enthusiasm. Very nice buffet breakfast. Comfortable, modern room, clean and tidy. Overall great service. I just wish I could have got a cheaper deal for my 1 night stay. ( though we where trying to book somewhere last Minuite. Nice central situated.

There were a number of issues making this a less than satisfactory experience. The following are in the order they occurred: 1 - The car park spaces were far too small and close together so parking was difficult. 2 - On arrival in our room there was one previously enjoyed bath towel so the room had not been prepared properly. The staff promptly replace it and brought an additional one as we were 2 people in the room. 3 - On the second night the staff had removed both bath towels that we had been prepared to re-use having neatly placed them on the towel rail and not left any replacements. This was against our ec0 principles and annoying because I had to go down to reception to ask for towels again. 4 - The breakfast on was okay but could be better. I realise that judging amounts to prepare is difficult but too much is prepared and left out so it is over cooked and past it's best. Smaller quantities replenished more regularly would be better. Please note I am usually a very satisfied customer and do not usually feel the need to comment or complain so I hope you take these comments constructively. Regards, John L Smith

Had a very average stay. The stay was pleasant enough. Comfortable bed in a very basic room with a good TV. Thought it was a bit pricey reaching nearly £300 for a 2 night stay.

« What a nice few days »

First time we have stayed bringing the car. Parking on site is a real bonus although I assume a bit of luck was involved. Stay as previously experienced, the reason we will book Ibis York when next staying in York. A really good experience for the money.

« Rooms in desperate need of a refurbish »

The room: items fell off the wall, hooks missing, it did the job but nothing you would have in your own home. I also brought my dog as your "dog friendly" or should that be tolerant. Not allowed to leave my dog in the room and have to eat my breakfast in the pool room on a low drinks table was a shocking, but then to have a woman come and put her tools down to fix the machines as we ate. This was despite the fact the bar area was free, I understand the food and dogs issue but facilities that reflect your dog friendly stance were hard to see. Possibly a sign to put on the door to let people know there is a dog would be better and that each dog and owner should be taken on their own merits. The staff however were very helpful and friendly
