« totally disappointed - from the service thru the facilities »

totally disappointed - from the service thru the facilities : I did reserved Mercure in tel aviv for 2 nights. After booking even I saw in the world's website very clearly the fact that the price includes all TAXES I found out myself told to add 17% vat (it is against the Israeli law not to show full price includes the VAT - only last week booking.com got a fine of 3 M ILS (750'000 euros) in Israel for the same issue. Never mind, I agreed to pay and came to the hotel which had a terrible check in. The (nice) agent needed like 35 minutes to check me in (he was so slow!) and even I asked and booked a queen size bed and asked him for the most darkest room (I need total blackout for that) he gave me a room with 2 single bed... and lots of lights. I came again to the front desk, he said he is "not sure" to have more rooms, but they did found me another room with double bed but - the new keys were not working and again I had to go back with all my luggage to the front desk and wait 10 more minutes for keys. My terrible experience just begun: The new room was full of lights, the curtains are not dark at all (for a fact lots of lights are getting inside the room - later on I found it as a fact in all other rooms in this hotel - they "saved" on cheap curtains - and in many issues that people mentioned in trip advisor etc. ) . After more calls they sent a woman to my room that admitted that "many guests are complaining about it and the management do nothing about it". I convinced a nice guy name Raul in the hotel to bring another blanket and to put it all over the curtains so we can block some of the lights. It helped a bit. after 2 hours I was "ready" to get my room. Even I paid for privllage room which includes "4 drinks/day" from the mini bar - the mini bar was empty. When I called about it they told me "they will fill it tomorrow morning". After another complain they sent a woman with exactly 4 drinks - very hot! not from the fridge - when it was 40" heat outside! . But... the worse case - the air condition was not working properly. It was SOOO hot in the room. at the beginning they told me to wait a bit. when it was impossible to stay / sleep there the woman from front desk was honest enough to tell me it is a known issue because of old system and many guests are complaining (and I read about it later on trip adviser too) . She sent a guy from engineer department to "see what we can do". The rude guy that came was super rude (it was just before Saturday eve. was about to leave and go) and he told me very direct "ask Avi - the owner - he knows it doesn't work" and he left without helping. At that moment , I decided to leave the hotel. Because tel aviv was full already (August! Friday eve!) I had to book another hotel and pay a crazy price (also in Mercure I was about to pay 400 euros !() for 2 nights) and take taxies all over, losing time and the worse part - losing my afternoon nap and my weekend vacation. I am writing you now - I hope someone will see that and stop the way they work in tel aviv. It is totally not professional and based on this situation will make me and others never book at your website. I hope those words found someone who cares around the world and honestly - I think someone should give me at LEAST a serious compensation . It's a shame, really !

We were welcomed with warmth and given assistance with queries. The only reason not to rate a full 10 was that the complementary room beverages as listed on the booking site were not accurately matched in reality, though there are free refreshments in the lounge.

« Wonderful after initial hiccups ! »

Stay in Mercure Tel Aviv was wonderful once your Manager Ms Or Abekasis sorted out the initial problems with the booking manager at the reception. We had booked for three members whereas the accor hotel website registered only one person with full charges for 5 nights and the mails written to them was also un answered ! Overall stay was comfortable with very nice ambiance and nice staves !

« It can be much better »

The stay was sufficiently pleasant, thanks also to the efficient staff and particularly Miss Eva at the reception. But the Hotel is very old and needs a fundamental restructuring: lifts very slow, rooms are old and furniture broken. There is no bar and breakfast is very basic.

« Not worth a "Mercure" »

Reception service was non-existent. Constanly felt to be a burden if at the reception. Room was small, not modern and veey noisy with the water pipes flushing through the ceiling. The shower was tiny and leaking.

Perfect location. Staff very nice. Breakfast essential but enough and nice location. To improve lift, stairs as well as wifi connection. This is very bad and low.

« A diamond in the rough »

Customer service in Israel is generally non existent but not at the Mercure hotel. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and were assisted with whatever we needed. Staff were courteous and very helpful. A special mention to Eva at the front desk who went out of her way to make our stay more comfortable which was very much appreciated as we were traveling with a baby. In most countries helpful and polite staff in hospitality is a given but not Israel where most hotel staff are rude and arrogant. The Mercure Tel Aviv is a diamond in the rough. Also the location is excellent, the included breakfast is tasty and the room was a great size. It was also great to have parking on site and be able to walk so easily to the beach and other attractions. Thanks again for a great stay. We will be recommending the hotel and will return when we are next in Israel.
