I have stayed at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila for 192 nights spread over the past few years; given the numerous other choices in Manila, clearly the Sofitel has something very special about it, at least for me. That 'very special' factor is the staff: Tanguy the F&B Manager, Michelle Olea, the Quality Manager, Rosh Masbad, the Guest Services Manager, to name just three of the many Sofitel people who keep me returning. The second factor is location; the Sofitel still has the best location in Manila; there is no other hotel in Manila that recreates a tropical resort atmosphere in the way the Sofitel can. It takes some extra time to get to and from the Makati business district, but where else can you relax after business meetings with a sense of being miles from the city in a tropical resort? The third factor is the food; the Spiral restaurant still offers the best buffet breakfast in Manila, probably one of the best in Asia, which wows everyone when they see it the first time. The Sofitel's only weakness, and one that is difficult for Accor to overcome, is the building's owner, Kajima Corporation of Japan, which refuses to invest to the level and pace needed to keep the Sofitel's guestrooms and other common facilities (barring the Spiral restaurant and the pool) competitive with other 5-star hotels such as the neighboring Conrad Manila. Kajima is investing in renovating rooms, but it has taken several years and, given the wear-rate of the young Filipino families who patronize the hotel every Friday and Saturday night, the first rooms renovated (completed four years ago) will be in need of renovation again by the time the last phase are completed next year or the year after. Overall though, the Sofitel is still an excellent hotel and my favorite in Manila.

I believe most hotels do have eventual issues with wear and tear. Several hotels I know also has condition issues. It is a very common topic and there is always a tag of war between parties. But we do our best to ensure that we progress in every step and maintain as much as we can in our capacity. I stayed at the Hyatt, Nobu, New World, Diamond Hotel and so on, but if I stay at Sofitel I am more comfortable than other hotels. I have good service and business meetings. I will continue to use it. I would like to have a Japanese / Korean staff at the counter.

I can’t remember how many times I’ve stayed in Sofitel but one thing’s for sure, I always love coming back! This time I came back bc it’s my dad’s bday, we had so much fun! 1. The buffet food is just 5/10 2. The shower heads were dirty (had fungus) 3. Gave one toothbrush for a 2 single bed bedroom 4. Hot water did not come out properly, took a long time 5.
