« Service quality has deteriorated »

Returning to Sofitel Wanda after 2 year gap. Was disappointed to find that service quality and customer attention has deteriorated. I have had shared already a specific issue with F&B with Jan-Willem Hoes. Room cleanliness and overall comfort still good.

« Inconsistent hospitality not in line with the brand, nor my status as Platinum Member »

The front desk welcome is problematic. The lack of English is part of the problem, but the main concern is that the welcome as a platinum member remains far below my expectations. I have now been a regular guest in this hotel over the last few years, but every time I encounter new regulations in terms of what my status implies. I encounter additional payment for an extra bed, or for access to the club, or for an early check in/late check out,. It seems very much 'a la carte et a la tete du client' , and changing all the time. This inconsistency creates immediately conflicts at the very start of my stay at check in with the staff, who then very often do not understand me...because of their lack of English. Back home, doing my accounting, I still have my deposit blocked after 5 days, and I seem to be billed twice for my room: once on my university card, used to book as prepaid, and once at check out on my private card, used for the deposit. This is really beneath all standards for the Sofitel brand, a brand I only know too well.. I would like to add that we were lucky to meet 2 trainees (French), Antoine and Vincent, who did really embody a good Sofitel attitude towards hospitality. We would like to thank them for their kind help.

« boring stay in a five star hotel »

I book a standard room for two nights and second I pay 400R MB to upgrade to club benefit. The room is quite comfort as sofitel, We arrived around 10pm and try to find some food in the lobby bar. however the the staff never never smile. I noted in this city, most people don`t smile. Next day we pay 400 RMB to go club and finally, we saw people smile. however the food quality is a little humble, we need order other dish from other restaurant, however the white asparagus and mushroom is super delicious. Room keep in good condition compare with my last stay 7 years ago. The only change for 7 years is the staff, now they never smile!!! I don`t know why, but this is the only one change I noted.

« Stephanie working at reception area is one of the highlights, well trained, great manner, smiling. »

Generally speaking, it was enjoyable. Nice staff, nice breakfast, nice and comfortable room, nice towers, comfortable bed. The day check in, the receptionist was a little bit lack of training, offering wrong info of membership points. but was corrected by Stephanie the day check out. Stephanie is the one open my membership with Accor, always in great manner, smiling, knowledgeable, efficient.

« Why make life so difficult with payments?  »

Overall, the hotel is very nice, with superb accommodation and infrastructure. But during my one-day stay, I had three independent issues with payments: (1) my room rate was pre-paid, but I was made to REpay the rate at check-out. I only realized this afterwards, and I will contact the hotel to be reimbursed. (2) after having dinner in the Japanese restaurant, I wanted to write the check to my room - which is what I usually do when I eat in a hotel restaurant. But then I hear "we first need to check your deposit, sir". First of all: I had made a large enough deposit at check-in, but WHY can I not simply charge to my room --- this is very uncommon, especially in such a top-notch brand. And best of all: 5 minutes later I heard that my deposit is not sufficient (which it was!) and that I needed to pay in other way... (3) I extended my stay for a half day, until 6pm. Although I am a Gold member, I was not allowed to get a late check-out after 1pm --- so I agreed to pay a half-day rate. But I had to pay that IMMEDIATELY upon making this extension --- why not simply let me do this upon checkout?? So in conclusion: great amenities, but unnecessarily strict with financials - which is quite disappointing.

« Tim and Jan made the stay »

Tim from Concierge was outstanding. He is a excellent worker, very calm and helped me out a lot when I left my Credit Card in the ATM over the road. Jan from F&D was also outstanding. He has all the hallmarks of a GM one day I believe. I worked in 5 star hotels around the world before I moved into real estate so I know what I'm talking about. Jan was amazing and both Tim and Jan should be applauded for their tremendous performances while I stayed in your hotel.

« Short stay »

I know the Sofitel brand name as a very good quality hotel, unfortunately I have experienced a very poor service attitude this time around. I was expected to check in around 4 or 5pm but my flight was delayed by 8hrs so I arrived at midnight and even if I had called to warn of my delay, absolutely nothing was prepared at the hotel and I faced a junior person who had absolutely no idea of how to handle the problem..

« Nice Hotel with Good Location, Facilities are bit old »

1. The minibar is enclosed in the closet without good ventilation which cause the minibar to function bad, drinks are not able to cool well. 2. Switch on the wall are not that great, difficult to press and with slow reaction. 3. The HVAC switch is having issue. 4. Had gone to the 1st non-smoking room, full of smoke smell. Reception offered to either clean the room or change a room, this is fine.

Beautiful Lobby and Cafe area, reception was ok, and had to take own baggage to room. Room was a standard size however no functioning spare power points, so unplugged the lamp. Think there are other hotels for the price charged that I'd prefer to try next time.

« Confusing email »

I made a booking for stay on May 28th but received an email for review on March 29 and a reminder on April 6, which was confusing. After check-out on May 29th, I checked point status for this stay but the points aren't yet recorded, which is way slower than my later stays at other Accor properties. Until now, June 10th, points still are missing. I think there must be something wrong with the hotel system. This has better to be improved otherwise the image of Sofitel will be down graded. On top of this, there's no Welcome Drink for Gold Members at this hotel, which i am not sure if it's normal in China.
