« Great location, disappointing customer service experience »

Disappointed and annoyed with checking in process. Due to the busyness of the hotel and us arriving at 9am, we were asked to come back at 2pm to get our room. It was explained that with our cruise and another cruise liner, the hotel was full and they were trying to clean rooms as soon as guests were leaving. We were fine with this, stored our luggage at the hotel and went to explore Singapore. Came back at 2pm and told that the room would be another 10 mins. One hour later, and upon questioning, we were given the key to our room. We went upstairs to find a room with 2 single beds. We booked and paid for an Executive room with king size bed and 2 rollaway beds as we are a family of 4. Went back downstairs to be told that there was a repair issue with the room we were booked into and so they were sorry, but we would need to stay in this room for the night and that they would get housekeeping to bring an additional 2 beds. I was told to come back in the morning with the room keys, and have our luggage packed and that we would be moved during the day whilst we were out exploring. Although annoyed that I was not told during the check-in process, I again accepted this and went to our room as we were tired. The next morning, as requested, I had everything packed and went down to get the new room key. I was told then that I couldn't swap, and what was more, they had the gall to argue with me over who told me such a thing as they didn't have the room. It was here that I got annoyed. I had booked and paid for a specific room. Not only did I not get it when I first checked into the hotel, I was now being told that despite Novotel's negligence, I was not going to get the room I had booked. After arguing with staff and the manger- who both focused on who told me such a thing rather than trying to rectify the issue, I expressed my annoyance and said it was their problem to fix and that I was not moving til they did. The manager went into the back office and came back, stating if we could come back at 6pm, the room would be ready. I said fine. I came back, and we were placed in exactly the same type of room with a king size bed and 2 rollaway beds. I have no idea if that was the room we were supposed to have or if they had just put the beds we needed into a standard room. I was offered no form of compensation for all the stuffing around and spent wasted time defending myself rather than accepting the fault and providing me what I had paid for months in advance. Whilst the hotel was in a fantastic location- near all the restaurants in Clarke Quay, walking distance to Chinatown and Orchard Road, shopping complex basically on site, and bus stop out the front of the hotel for public transport and the hop-on/hop-off again bus- this has not really inspired me to stay at Singapore Novotel or any Novotel again. Even though we are not Accorhotel members, we have stayed in 4 Novotels before and not had this experience. A friend alluded to the fact that if I was an Accorhotel member, the result may have been different. I am hoping not.

The GM on duty and his staff (Luna) gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel right at home. The lady of the front desk (who helped me trade in my tourist card was just too lovely to be true) helped us in many ways and made our stay enjoyable. Hotel could be refreshed for does have a tired look and feel to it.

Comfortable room and beds. All requests were catered for but we found guest services could not cope with the high volume of customers. Slow service, request were not responded to, hard to get taxi. Fantastic location!

Hotel has bags of great service, fab breakfasts, great family-friendly pool and best of all a great Singapore location near Clarke Quay, MRT to Chinatown and Bayfront for Gardens by The Bay etc. Will def recommend and come back. Rooms good, bathrooms huge and spotless and aircon quiet. Building is not prettiest but overall I felt the hotel had a great mix of all types with nice safe and relaxed feel. Thanks for a fantastic stay.

Our stay at Novotel was generally good, however the hotel shows signs of age and it is a bit shabby in places. When you look closely there are places where trim in the hallways has been bumped by suitcases and luggage trollies that is lifting and needs to be repaired. Our bathroom needed to have a good scrub to remove the mould from the shower recess. The lighting in the room and bathroom is not great and could benefit from better lighting being installed. Difficult to apply makeup when you have trouble seeing what you are doing. The system for turning lights off and on needs to be updated so that it is more user friendly. This includes controls for the air conditioning as well. The bed in our room was a queen size bed that was pushed into a corner which meant that it was difficult to get into that side of the bed. You had to climb across someone or get into and out of it from the end of the bed. It could not be moved out as the bedside table was fixed to the wall. I was glad that I was not having to make the bed each morning. The staff at the hotel were friendly although they were not up to date with attractions being open or closed. We checked in to the hotel early (11.00am) and were told that our rooms would be ready at 2.00pm - no problem. We went out for a while and returned to reception around 2.00pm where one of our rooms was ready but they did not know when the other one would be ready. We told the staff that we would all be in the one rom and they said they would let us know when the other one was ready. Finally we were advised that the second room was ready but this was after a couple of extra visits to reception. It was frustrating having go to level 7 to check in at reception. When we were told our rooms were not ready we were asked to take our bags back down to level 1 to the concierge as all the available space on level 7 was full.

All of the staff were very friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome. A room was found for us even though we arrived early, we were taken to the premier lounge whilst a room was made available for us. I had booked a premier room which therefore made the premier lounge available to us, however when we went to the lounge in the evening there was not enough seats available, so we had to stand up until others guests left. There was only one white wine available in the hotel, a Sav Blanc which was from Chile which tasted awful, we expected a choice and a better wine list. The room was ok but the hair dryer which looked nice on the wall was hopeless, when drying my very short hair it stopped working, I wondered if it had overheated and kept waiting without success, however it was working when we returned to the room after breakfast, it was lucky that I didn't have long hair!. I didn't use it again.

Check in was delayed. Free drink had to be requested by me. Upgrade offered but not received. I was not very happy with the service. This is my very first experience with Accor and i am now wondering what I paid to join for. The room was average. The bathroom vanity tap leaks all over the bench. The shower rose leaks. TV was very limited.
