A compact but well appointed room, has everything you need. Pleasant staff, great dinner. However I paid a wee bit extra for an Ibis plus room, and not entirely sure what the "plus" is. Yes, the room was on a higher floor, but the view has been largely built out - this is of course out of Ibis's control, but pushing it a bit to advertise high floors as a benefit. The promised bottles of water weren't there, but the wifi was free - although arguably, given the difference and price & benefits between the standard and plus room, it could be argued it wasn't! All in all, a pleasant hotel, but the plus rooms not value for money.

Wonderful staffs - Very helpful. Clean rooms, dining area and restrooms... Friendly ambience and very easy access to tourist attractions - Great service. Feel happy to have stayed at IBIS during our visit to the Garden City, Christchurch. Two Thumbs up :)

« My favourite place to stay in Christchurch »

I truly enjoy staying with the IBIS for many reasons. The staff are all so pleasant and welcoming. The breakfast while not as much of a selection as Novotel, is perfect for my needs and always so well kept by staff. The dinners I had were some of the best meals I have had at any restaurant this year. The lamb shank was to die for. The layout of the room was on par with the hiltons, Novotels, mercures i stay with, with all the amenities you need - it maybe smaller, but the renovations and the sleek look were perfect for anyone's need and it always made the room look clean and smart. I always recommend my friends this hotel for location, cleanliness, food and above all the staff.

Initially I was charged a higher rate that I had been quoted on booking.com, but the reception staff quickly rectified that when I pointed it out to them. Otherwise, everything was fine.

The room was quiet. the bed was very comfortable. The hotel was in an ideal location. There is however an issue with parking being limited. A coffee plunger would be nice too.

The Staff on Reception, in the Restaurant & the House-keeping (cleaning) crew were ALL just TOP !! I must say we found the Hotel facilities to be very well presented, offering good SERVICE value for the price bracket...and in an extremely convenient CBD location!

I don't think I have ever stayed in such a small hotel room - everything was small; room, TV, bathroom, shower, wardrobe (if you can call it that), beds. There was no view - the window looked out on to a solid concrete wall of the adjacent Telecom building. There was a constant hum all night long - either a plantroom or very noisy air-conditioning in the corridor. I have been bombarded with emails from Accor, though I never agreed to receiving any emails from Accor and when the guy at the front desk asked I specifically said I did not want to receive any emails from Accor or any second party. Upon exiting the lift at the 8th floor and turning left than right, my first impression was - this reminds me of those tv shows and movies set in prisons - a set of red doors either side of the corridor with red armouring on the door frames (timber angle to be honest). Very uninviting. TV reception (Sky) was not very reliable - dropping out every night. Wi-fi was extremely slow. Bathroom not cleaned daily. Got two bottles of water on arrival, the second day, and then none thereafter. Extremely disappointed overall, would not stay at the Ibis again.

It is by design small and humble for the cost conscious traveler. We have other brands in our network that might be more to your liking for future travel. We also have a Novotel In Christchurch which is 4+ star and has more of the refined touches i think you would enjoy. On first impressions, the staff at the front desk were welcoming and knowledgeable. Check-in was an easy process along with the layout of the hotel which made getting to bed so easy. A couple of things need improvement. Firstly, I'd like a menu for the on-site restaurant in the room, rather than just the room service menu. Secondly, paying for WiFi is so 2008... The room rate is high enough to provide the most basic of free WiFi to paying guests, this would be especially good for business clients who don't really do anything other than browse the internet, use email and watch Netflix.
