« overall good but... »

1. I consumed one tin of beer from refrigerator. During check out, came to find the reception was going to charge more than the price it was shown in room, and had to ask them to revise the rate correctly. If I had not notice it, I would have paid over than the selling price. a bit shocked... while usually Accor group hotel are more professional. 2. During check out, I asked to cancel the deposit slip which I was told when I checked in. The reception says, no paper is available on credit card slip, so no worry, they already cancelled. it was not nice approach, I got upset, asked them to write down even by hand writing to prove that the deposit that I put credit card are canceled, and they stepped out, and came back with slip, seems they did in other machine or something, and came back with official slip and gave it to me. above 2 non professional communication was very disappointing for me.

According to the billing record in our system, the bill posted into the system for the Tsingdao beer you consumed was exactly same as what's shown on the minibar tarrif, and there was no bill adjustment record in the system. For the point number 2 that you feedback, we are sorry that the slip printing was temporarily not availible that day due to printer breakdown accident. The room is small but ok, when we first arrived the hotel at around 11am, the rooms were not ready, while when we back after 14:30 the room was still not ready. The experience is not good.

We had 5 very comfortable nights at Mercure on Renmin Square but there was some confusion about our booking. We originally booked 2 rooms but our son was unable to join us on our visit to Xi’an so our friend Brandi Wang organised online cancellation of 1 room. We received an email with confirmation of the cancellation. However when we arrived payment for the second room was taken from my credit card. Brandi Wang spent some time discussing the room cancellation and eventually I was informed during our stay that the payment for the cancelled room would be refunded to me. I am still waiting for the refund and hope to receive it soon. Otherwise our stay was enjoyable.

I arrived to check in and through changes to my schedule I had a booking for 4 nights, then 2 nights and finally a single night. The staff had problems understanding I would be staying there for 7 nights and initially insisted on my checking out after my 4 night booking. Eventually got them to agree I could stay in the one room for the 7 nights. They also insisted my bookings had no breakfast included so I had to provide my own paperwork to show that breakfast was included on the 2 night booking. No information was given on where breakfast was provided which was annoying as it is in the Sofitel Hotel next door. My key however worked for 4 nights, I then had to return to reception to get it sorted after which it worked for 2 nights before I had to go to reception again to get the key sorted for the last night. The lobby had a fair number of mosquitoes in it and to my disappointment so did my room. The room itself was very nice.

« A good hotel »

Hotel is located in an area alongside a Sofitel and Grand Mercure. This hotel has no facilities of its own. No bar, no restaurant. Breakfast is at the Sofitel. Breakfast is very good at about £15. You can also use the indoor pool at the Sofitel. The standard room was new, large enough and in good condition. In fact, there is no need to stay at the Sofitel - this place is perfectly fine. We had a small issue with our room on arrival and the Manager couldn't do enough for us as compensation. The location is quite good - but its in a business district - so its about 20 minutes walk to down town Xian for a choice of restaurants. If you need a change from Chinese food there is an Italian restaurant called The Cyclist about 5 minutes walk. There is a small convenience store about 5 minutes away. Near metro station about 10 mins away. The long distance railway station about 30 minutes in a taxi which will cost you about £5. You can walk to the old railway / bus station (just outside the city walls) where you can catch a bus to the Terracotta Warrior - the fare is about £0.70!

« Below my expectation »

Shower head water power was weak and leaky. Faucet also leaky, pillow very soft no support, 2 ea spot light broken, requested to change room but no joy. Staff assigned maintenance crew but after repair still not good. The only positive items were TV and air cond. Also hotel should open side gate for better access to metro (can req key card access)

We had informed the hotel that we will be arriving midnight and have been advised to online check in our room. However when we reached hotel, there was no staff at the reception and it seems that the staff is not aware of the arrival of their customers at midnight. Further that we had paid our late check out fee when we made the reservation months before our trip. We are not sure how the hotel system is but the staff was not aware of this. The hotel staff are unable to understand and even weak in english communication. We have difficulties in delivering our needs to them. We noticed that there are few new staff at the reception but none are capable in servicing the customers. Seniors are not there to guide them. As a reputable hotel, this is certainly not acceptable as customers select your hotel based on the global reputation that has been build throughout the years. We hope that customer service of the hotel can be in par with other hotel chain globally.

We stayed at Mercure on Renkin Square during a 3 day visit to Xian to see Terra Cotta Army and other sites in Xian. The Mercure is well located, within the wall of Xian and close to restaurants and key attractions in Xian city. Xian is a bigger city than we had imagined. The mercure is located in a quiet oasis with other Accor hotels and at the end of each day was a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of Xian. The staff at the front desk of the Mercure were very very helpful giving us great advice for sites, restaurants and for how to take the "locals" bus to the Terra Cotta army museum site... If you go, you must take the bus... you will save loads of money and get a great "locals" experience.

« Quiet old world elegance »

The Mercure gave us what we wanted, comfort, quiet and peaceful. Less plush and glitzy than its neighboring Granid Mercure and Sofitel the subdued old world elegance was a welcoming, warm and comfortable. Set in large leafy grounds one still enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast and drinks in the modern Sofitel next led beside the Mercure. As it was the last hotel on the block one was protected from the bustle of arrivals and departures which was very pleasant. The location was perfect for visiting the sites and walking the ancient city wall, the Muslim markets and the local famous Big Hong Kong Restaurant.

« Excellently clean room and wonderful staff. »

I arrived early, well before normal check-in. The desk staff said they would do their best to locate a room for me as soon as one became available. They very helpful in giving me directions to find a local breakfast. My room was ready when I returned. It was impeccable: clean, well appointed and appealing. When I asked for an electrical adapter this was quickly provided and check to make sure that it was working properly. That staff member thoughtfully provided a larger pair of slippers than the ones normally provided. My every request was met promptly and politely. I can't praise the staff highly enough for the excellent help they provided to the traveler struggling with a new city, culture and language.
