« Great for festival-goers »

Visited the Birmingham Ibis Budget hotel while attending a music festival in the city. The best thing about this hotel is its convenient location for events - only a two-minute walk to the O2 Academy - as well as being near a variety of cafes, restaurants, and shops, and a short distance from the train station and Megabus stop. The room itself was well-priced - three nights came to £56 each for the three of us (unfortunately one guest didn't turn up but obviously that wasn't the fault of the hotel!) - and was good for people just wanting somewhere basic to stay while attending festivals and other events. Only two minor issues: firstly I hadn't realised the shower opens directly onto the room, which could be a bit awkward (this wasn't the case in an Ibis Budget I previously stayed in in London, but might be the norm so I apologise if it seems like I'm being fussy); and secondly, the top bunk of the bed was difficult to get down from due to the very small, thin ladder, and I briefly got stuck there! However, everything else was great: staff were all very friendly and helpful, room was clean and warm, food is available downstairs for anyone who wants breakfast/pizza/etc., hotel has internet throughout, and is altogether a bargain considering its city centre location!

The welcome, room, service, security and location (close to O2 Academy and walkable to town centre) were really good for the price. Didn’t try breakfast and liked comfy bed.

« Ideal hotel For the O2 Academy »

I had 3 really good night's sleep while attending a Metal Festival at the nearby O2 Academy. The bed was really comfy. Having USB outlets in the power points was a nice touch. The shower was reasonably powerful and very controllable. Everything I could want from a budget hotel.

« Ok. Missing lots of services »

The main problem was that we were supposed to be in the quiet section but a drunk man was in the corridor at 1am banging on doors, shouting, swearing, kicking and punching walls. We tried to contact reception to get security but it was an automated response. We felt trapped in the room and I was scared. I thought I’d have to call the police but luckily he left after he had a panic attack whilst other guests helped him but this should not have been going on in the corridor. There was no kettle, iron or shower gel etc and no where to put your stuff, only 4 hangers but the staff were very nice at least.

« Pleasant, but quite cramped »

Staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean, we particularly liked the lighting. However, it was quite cramped. Didn't like that there were no sockets near the bed, and hardly any shelf space/ drawers near the bed to put belongings on within reach [such as phone etc.]. Also didn't like the fact that the sick was outside of the toilet, or that the shower was very cramped so you had to get undressed before entering. Not a problem if you're staying as a couple, but would afford no privacy if staying with friends.

This is now several times i have stayed at ibis budget Birmingham centre. Every time has been a pleasant stay. Only issues were minor due to a door card stopping working, and a poor tv connection. Other than that no problems at all.
