« Less than budget... »

Check in was the only positive during our stay and friendly staff who couldn't be faulted, just the rooms itself being a let down. For £105 per night (no breakfast) I was expecting slightly more in our rooms than we got, as for this price I would hardly call it budget. Yes we had the triple room which was a good size and fabulous having a room for 3 adults, however the positives end there. The vinyl and laminate floors were very sticky and from the colours going onto our socks, they clearly hadn't been cleaned very well. There were marks on the ceilings, walls, underneath the bunk bed and on the bed sheets of the double. The air conditioning unit in 408 (room number) didn't work and so left us all very uncomfortable and hot during the time we spent in our room. In the shower and the toilet there was a strong smell of drains and there was little attention to detail in the toilet, with there being a half used toilet roll left on the holder (no matter the price of a hotel I would expect a full toilet roll to be left). As an improvement I would suggest having a plug socket close to the full length mirror. As a group of girls it would be a beneficial place to put a plug socket so that short lead straighteners or hair dryers can be used. As there were only two plug sockets in the corner below the television, and for a room of three I think there should be more and it would also make sense for there to be at least 3. The location of the hotel was just outside of the main city centre and so I did expect the rooms to be a little bit more worth the money than they were due to the price we paid. I recently stayed in a Premier inn less than a minute walk from New Street Station, for a room for 4 people including breakfast costing only £94. The rooms were immaculate and included a kettle and plug sockets in various locations,. And for a prime location the price was more than satisfactory. I knew it was a budget hotel so my expectations on what the room would include were not high, but to compare to another in a more central location I was more than disappointed due to the price we paid as it was very expensive. As I believe it was over priced considering the faults we had with our room.

« Awful! »

Horrendous 2 nights of what could never be called ‘sleep’ - drunken other guests partying in the corridors ALL night, screaming and shouting and aggressive

« Good hotel for the price and location but noise is an issue... »

For the price this is a great option and it's location allows easy access to many things Birmingham has to offer. The window in our room seemed to let in quite a bit of noise from the main road outside. I could not tell if this issue was specific to our room or was a general issue with the hotel's location. Would recommend to others as affordable and a good location.

« Nothing special but comfortable and friendly staff »

Hallways a bit noisy, food selection pretty dire but the staff were nice and the room comfortable

« great staff but inappropriate bathroom, intended for disabled customers. »

Hotel was clean and staff very welcoming. I didn't like the facilities. The bathroom was not suitable for able bodied customers nor the bedroom where the bedside table was too far from the bed, probably to accommodate a wheelchair. Most hotels now have tea making facilities in the room, this did not. The bathroom had a bad stench which suggested poor plumbing. The lovely staff and the cleanliness stopped me asking for a more appropriate room. I think this hotel is overpriced for location and room facilities. I would not have stayed in this room longer than one night. Also cigarette smoke filled the room at one time during the night from people smoking outside in the carpark but near the windows.

Strangely the only issue was the room was too hot and despite turning the thermostat down it became hard to sleep.

« Clean hostel like terrible windows »

Clean and tidy throughout no complaints there. Booked for the location which was brilliant. However a second pillow, warmer/thicker duvet and double gazed windows would have been preferable. I found it hard to sleep both nights we were booked in as the traffic noise was very loud and constant.

« For what I paid I expected a bit more »

Area isn’t the best but close to the centre. The was room was bare and I mean bare, they literally took budget to the extreme. Simple cheap upgrades would make the place far better. I’ve stayed in other ibis budgets and it’s been pleasant but this one literally stripped everything back and gave you nothing. The card on my door didn’t work, I had to get it reset several times over my two day stay. It seemed to be staffed by kids who couldn’t care less.

« Good location for what we needed but not very comfortable »

Stayed for 2 nights. Good location for our use of going to the O2 and a day of shopping however the room was not very comfortable to stay in and looked like it was in need of some repairs. My partner is quite tall and his feet hung off the bed, almost touching the wall at the end of the bed, which made it difficult to move around the room. We were only given one pillow each and had to request more after our first night at the hotel as the bed was very uncomfortable to sleep on. Parts of the room needed cosmetic work, lots of scratches in the paint work. It just looked pretty run down. Having the 'bathroom' I'm the main room was not what we were expecting having not stayed in an ibis hotel before. It made my morning shower difficult for my still sleeping partner as when the light was put on for the shower, the light for the sink also turned on and lit up the room. Bit of a design flaw. There was a hen party staying just down from our room who came back at the early hours of the morning and caused a lot of notice and some were running up and down the corridor, nice early wake up call for us on a Sunday morning.
