We enjoyed the friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is in a classical style, very cosy. The room we booked turned out to be more likely for a single person. A bit too small for a couple. Upgrade to a larger room was not possible. The Tugu intersection is very central, taxi and grab freely available.

It was a nice experience to stay, loved the ambiance of the hotel, easy check-in, nice welcome drink and cookies (esp. kipo, very rare to see at another hotel), great location and very helpful staff. The downside was the room too tight and especially the elevator needs to be fixed. I stayed on the 3rd floor and sometimes the button couldn't be pressed so I need to stopped at the 2nd floor and continue with the stairs. But overall, it was great to stay and will come back in future but please fix the elevator.

I really enjoyed staying at this historic hotel. It's very beautiful, so it was always great to be there. The large staff was always very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was always very healthy and delicious, and an education in Indonesian foods. The gym was big, clean and had everything I needed. I had a facial in the spa which I found to be very good and also relaxing as it included plenty of massaging too.

The building needs a renovation. There was leakage on my bathroom ceiling. The lift is slow and its button is hard to press. What i like is the staffs are really friendly and the foods have variation and delicious. You have vegetarian corner and as a vegetarian i'm impressed because it's kind of hard to find in other hotels.

« Potential but not the standards of a 5* hotel »

The building itself is very romantic and the staff is very friendly. What is lacking is ownership and service. Staff needs be better coached/trained. Eg. do not start cleaning the breakfast buffet 15 minutes prior to closing time, if guests are still in the room when cleaning/evening check is done then come back after 30 minutes as promised/agreed (instead of skipping the service). If a certain wine is out of stock, give instructions to staff on how to respond to guests - instead of offering only wine by the bottle or a complete different wine( eg white instead of red), followed by 20 minutes debate and checking with 'manager' - here pro-activity and ownership is needed in order for guests to enjoy their order within 20 minutes (ideally within 5 minutes...). Give the complete internet instructions on the card instead of 80%, which requires guests to go back to reception. We choose this hotel because we had good experience with Sofitel (eg Hanoi), but this time we were impressed.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I love the friendliness of the staffs, the concept of the hotel, the decoration of the room and especially, the food they offered. I felt like a king when I was staying there. Additionally, the location was really strategic and I could travel to Malioboro easily. If I visited Yogyakarta once day, I would stay at this hotel again.

« Very comfortable, great service. »

We stayed in a very comfortable suite which was an upgrade from what we'd booked, so we had loads of space - thank you. We enjoyed a good treatment in the spa and swam in the pool which has an amazing atmosphere in the evening lights, surrounded as it is by all the rooms. The staff didn't understand our request (from the room) for a little jug of cold milk to go with our cup of tea, bringing us a glass of milk - obviously a peculiar British thing! However that was just a small point. Breakfast was a feast for the eyes and deserves time to explore and enjoy all that was on offer! The hotel is well positioned and we walked from the hotel one evening to one end of Malioboro Street for the night market.

I always like staying at the Phoenix Hotel because the room and bed are usually clean and comfortable. AC works well to help me sleeping tight at night. The breakfast is perfect to gain energy to start the day. Some "old" staff know me and greet me by my name, that makes me feel at home. One thing that is lacking is good WIFI!
