Es tut mir sehr leid, dass Ihnen unser Haus wenig zugesagt hat. Ich entschuldige mich aufrichtig für etwaige Unannehmlichkeiten und bitte um Verständnis für ein Hotel, das – obwohl noch sehr gut in Schuss – aufgrund seines Alters manch top-modernes Detail vermissen lässt und Abnutzungserscheinungen zeigt. Seien Sie aber bitte versichert, dass entsprechende Renovierungsmaßnahmen bereits diskutiert werden bzw. in Planung sind. « Wonderful location but the hotel is tired »

We have stayed in several hotels in Trier but the Mercure still has an unbeatable location overlooking the Porta Nigra. Inside though the building is feeling tired with our "superior" room lacking adequate heating and the shower panel leaking water. Cost cutting by replacing china mugs with paper ones adds to the general feeling that this hotel is now well past its best.

Staff very welcoming. Room of a high standard, except bed was not comfortable. The brasserie was busy and understaffed. After waiting for some time to be noticed we left and ate elsewhere.

« An horror stay in Trier »

Front desk: upon arrival a catastrophe. I parked the car while my wife went to the front desk to get the room keys. Even though we already stayed many times in this hotel she was asked a lot of silly questions by non friendly personnel. She heard one of the employees saying to the other "check the validity of the credit card" and they asked her her ID number. This information is since years in the Hotel system. Unfortunately, we got a table in the Vis ä Vis for dinner. I took the "Winterzauber" a dish which was not eatable, it tasted like plastic. A lady on the table close to ours had the same and confirmed my findings. The personnel in the restaurant was Ok. I told the waitress to send the cook into the Pampa.

Paid for a superior room with view over Porta Nigra, and it was a fabulous view! Hotel location is superb. Front office were really helpful with a couple of the queries we had. Breakfast was fine, view from dining room was great; only criticism is that for a Mercure brand the pastries were pretty average ( usually they are outstanding).

« A trip back to the 70s »

The basic nuts and bolts of this hotel are fine. We had a nice enough room with a great view over the Porta. It just feels that a hotel in such a prime spot should have been redecorated since the 70s. It's terribly dated and the lobby (which seems to have been given some attention) is a car crash of decor. I would seriously spend some money on this hotel and put the rates up by 50%.

Beautiful big room. Nice greeting at reception. Unfortunately 1 bed was full of dust mites or something. I went red and itchy all over. Second bed was better. I used a towel over the cushions. I really thought it was unnecessary to have the heater on but I had a window so it was ok.

Lovely friendly Reception staff, comfy large rooms with soft beds and a fabulous view. Can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. Pity all Mercure hotels are not as good as this.
