« a weekend to remember »

actually this was our second stay in this hotel. we are plesantly surprised by further improvement on restaurant and good maintenance of all facilities. if we have to say something which we found a small minor points, that is lack of dustbin at wellness area and too soft bed in our room ( room 102 ).

« This property should be re-branded to a F1 motel »

I am astonished that this property exists in its current form. It does not do the Pullman brand any justice and should be rebranded into a F1 motel at most. Check-in: - No porter. - "We have some trolleys. You can help yourself to those" (bear in mind though that the passenger lifts are so tiny that you cant really fit large suitcases on the trolley into the lift. Hotel staff had to grudgingly assist to send up my luggage through the service elevator). - (Note: If you have a Platinum member checking in, please consider that he probably knows the AccorHotels systems very well). - No loyalty welcome. "Here are your keys, the welcome drink vouchers, lifts are behind you". - I inquired on an upgrade (I knew quite well that they were full. But I thought I would still test the system). "You already have a good room. We don't upgrade into Suites". THAT, is a wrong answer. There is no policy that upgrades into suites is not possible. When I then highlighted this, I was told that they were full. Fair enough. Room: - Typically, a day prior to guest check-in, a hotel should go through the list of arriving guests, check inventory and allocation. They should also be looking into guest profiles and preferences. My preference in my profile reads: AWAY from Elevator. We were given a room right next to the stairs and the elevator. - The bed is not what you expect from a AccorHotels property. I slept better 4 nights prior in the Ibis Styles in Bremen. Their beds are very old, not cushioned and not what you expect from a Pullman. It was extremely hard to sleep on it and my wife and I took a long time to fall asleep. When we did, we were woken up by drunkards coming back from the Christmas market (we could hear them as we were so close to the lift lobby). The room and furnishings are in desperate need of renovation. Wallpaper was peeling off, we had a big hole in our curtain as it was torn, some electrical plugs did not work... I am sure the hotel management will come back to this review with a typical copy&paste response like they do with other reviews here and talk about that they have many things on their list...Honestly, close the hotel and fix it. The hotel is a disgrace. Breakfast - Beautiful breakfast area. But the staff seem to enjoy blocking off the center area with all tables having reserved signs. WHAT Hotel reserves tables during breakfast?? Who are you reserving them for? People who pay more for rooms? Stammgaeste? Enjoy this Faulty Towers

Invited to check-in online. Was asked what time we were going to arrive - and at the end of the process told our keys would be waiting for us. They weren't because the room wasn't ready and wasn't until 15.00. The Spa needed some attention - the bins in the shower room were overflowing. The hook on the bathroom door fell off. The TV cable was loose and I had to get on the floor to fix it (in poor lighting). Breakfast was very crowded and made worse by the fact the rather manic Frau Ober had reserved at least 3 tables in the main room for her friends/favoured guests.

Although the hotel is not located in the center, it is only a short walk to the pedestrian area, cathedral and city hall. The room was excellent and the very quiet so that we had a very relaxing stay.

We needed a place for just one night, and we were lucky to get a room: extraordinarily, for such a giant of a hotel, it was packed! We had hit the Christmas party moment, which could have been a nightmare, but turned out to be an enhancement. The hotel is simply beautiful and the staff are friendly and helpful. There were three of us; two in one double room, and one in a single. Neither room, I think, had been updated particularly recently, but they were beautifully comfortable: if you are a bed freak, then you are in for a treat. Usually, I'm not keen on a soft mattress; but this mattress, which was soft (but not a memory foam, thank the Lord) was supportive and so comfortable that it was like sleeping on a cloud. Proper feather pillows and silky smooth white cotton linen. The bathroom was wonderful: white tiles and chrome; classically German: wonderful selection of bits and pieces - just the BEST sewing kit I've ever seen (so many hotels don't even bother with this now), lovely thick, white robes and mule slippers in the cupboard; a sweet on each bedside table (also unusual in this day and age). We visited the bar twice: what a beautiful room! high-ceilinged and gracious, with knowledgeable multi-lingual barstaff. And breakfast: a triumph! Something for everyone. A fine spread of continental breakfast - breads, pastries, salamis, hams and cheeses, salads, fruit salads... but also hot offerings: eggs, sausage, etc. And again, a lovely room, with views of tree tops through enormous arched windows. We waddled out, feeling cossetted and happy. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough; it is within walking distance of the town centre, which was handy since we wanted to visit the Christmas markets before leaving, and there was parking for the car. Perfect. Already, I am looking forward to my next stay.

« Two nights at the Pullman »

We stayed at the Pullman whilst visiting the Aachen Christmas Market. A beautiful traditional hotel with courteous and attentive staff who all made us feel very welcome. Dined at the hotel restaurant on our second night and thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meal. There always seems to be a downside and I'm afraid on this occasion it was being charged 16 euros per night for parking our car!! Why does a quality hotel such as the Pullman need to do this? We have stayed in hotels around the world but this is the first time I've been charged for parking my car!!

« Elegant, comfy and enjoyable stay »

In Aachen for a weekend in December, we enjoyed the walking distance from the city center, the gorgeous SPA area, and the excellent and uncomplicated service. It's a beautiful building, the room could be refreshed, as the carpet and walls showed signs of age, but for us this did not affect the comfort of the room. We would have liked a kettle or coffee machine in the room, but we forgot it when we were welcomed so nicely by the bar tender as we asked for our insulated bottles to be filled in. we'd love to go back!

The service, the room and the location were impeccable. The bed was very comfortable. The spa facilities are brand new, spacious and quite complete, I enjoyed them very much .Parking was easy, you can leave the car at the hotel and walk to most touristic sites.

I booked the Prestige suite in this hotel for the last two days of my holiday and was looking forward to finishing our holiday on a "High". Instead, having initially booked online and then 'phoned over a week in advance of our stay to check everything to be reassured that my booking was on the system for a Prestige Suite, I was 'phoned the day before our planned arrival to be told that we would have to be downgraded to a Junior Suite as the hotel had double booked the Prestige Suite, and was this OK? No it was not OK. The room offered was tired, bare of furnishings and pictures, scuffed, with a settee that had seen better days and a bathroom that was small. Nothing like what we would have expected. The swimming pool is excellent and the dining room/restaurant has Michelin mention. The food was good. Sadly the experience did not match the food and the reception staff seemed unsympathetic. We ended the holiday on a "Low" having returned from the Black Forest on our journey back to the UK. The brief apology offered by the manager following my completion of the questionnaire seems rather unsatisfactory for Gold Card Accor Club status. I would have expected better.

« A Grand Lady in Aachen needs more respect »

This is a classic grand hotel that used to have all the bells and whistles—magnificent spa, excellent services and, for a little while longer, one of the great concierges in Europe, Herr Joachim Neumann and a fantastic maitre d'hotel, Pablo Steiner. I have stayed there over eight years and watched the quality ebb steadily. The furniture needs refurbishing, the experienced staff are fewer on the ground, and the clientele not as lustrous. Where are the flowers that used to grace the lobby? Where are the porters? The Accor Pullman chain has done this magnificent structure no favors during their ownership, which is almost a crime. Finally, this is the 21st century and their "free" wi-fi continues to be utterly useless. The rooms continue to be large. Poor corporate ownership can't affect that too much. By the way, it is also nice and quiet.

« Magnificent hotel »

Second stay at this hotel and it didn't disappoint again. Big comfortable room and very friendly staff. A fantastic three course meal in the restaurant, perfect cocktails and a tremendous breakfast. One minor downside....I had prepaid the room and restaurant and left my credit card details for extras. On checking out Reception debited my card in Sterling without asking me if I wanted to pay in Euros, which I did. When querying the agent said that the conversion was automatic; not a good arrangement, clients must be given the choice.
