Good hotel in a great location, friendly and helpful staff. Disappointing that for the most part during our stay both lifts were out of action. Also I was baffled to have a nice tea and coffee selection provided in the room, but no kettle, when i requested one a staff member gave me a large soup pot.

Mugged in front of Grand Mercure Hotel Copacabana (6 blocks from my hotel at Arpoador) security heard my cries for help and watched me fight the thieves without offering any assistance or calling the police. He did later ask me how much money was taken. Remarkably, after receiving hard blows from me, the thieves kindly left my hotel key-card, credit card and driver's licence 'in front' of the Grand Mercure Hotel. Police demonstrated little interest beyond asking, specifically, how much money was stolen, in Brazilian currency - I was asked 9 times in total. However, not once was I asked for description of assailants, attire, direction headed. Frankly, the Police seemed disheartened to learn that I kept possession of my I-phone in the scuffle. My conclusion is that local police, tourist police and your hotel security are all complicit in this scheme to mug tourists and split the proceeds.

Reception staff were very helpful and really friendly. The cleaning staff for the bedrooms were also very friendly, it was a joy bumping into them and chatting. The breakfast service was fantastic the staff in the restaurant area were so nice and friendly. Really enjoyed our stay.

Victor and Leticia were very helpful with us. They are kind and educated. We could not ask for more. My husband suffered stomach's issues and both were so helpful. The hotel location is great, just 5 min walk to copacabana and ipanema beaches. There are nice restos near ipanema streets. The hotel provided beach towels if you prefer going to the beach. Ask for beach towels at reception. Rio is not always very safe, so our suggestions is to leave everything in the box safe and walk copacabana and ipanema beaches with minimum stuff i.e.: sun protector and a credit card...

It was not a pleasant and satisfactory stay. Albeit I will say though that the restaurant staff were very friendly and accommodating but the food was very limited. The reception staff however, were not the most helpful and did not seem like the know what they were doing. Since my flight from the US arrived in early in Rio, I arrived early in the hotel as well. However, I waited for over 5 hours before I was able to get settled in my room. After 12 noon when guest were checking out, I noticed that new guest were arriving and were able to check in and get accommodated upon arrival while I was there waiting patiently for my room to get ready. It was not until I started to complain about other guest who were being checked in upon their arrival while I have been waiting for over 5 hours. Upon check out, I was also being charged for food items that I did not consume except for ONE bottle of water that my friend drank which I paid for already in advance. Furthermore, I was asked to pay for my breakfast on Friday morning while I was waiting for my room to get ready. Cleaning staff was also very poor because the towels were not clean and the room was not cleaned properly. Overall, I rate this particular hotel for poor customer service. Overall impression is poor customer service bein an Accor Hotel member.

Awful. WiFi wasn’t working. We were given an old room, asked to be moved to a renovated room as we had seen on the pictures but receptionist just said maybe tomorrow, and kept saying that every day and we were never moved. Most of the receptionist didn’t speak English. There was mold in the bathroom. There was a leak from the toilet. There were no sheets in our bed, we had to ask three times to get sheets!!! A repair guy came to repair the night outs AC and it took an hour! The AC is ridiculously loud so we couldn’t sleep. Overall it’s the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at and you should be forced to close

« DIRTY, DINGY, OLD - TERRIBLE VALUE! »

Our room was TERRIBLE! Right off the bat: 1) there was shampoo left in the bathroom from the previous stay, 2) as soon as we turned the shower handle, it FELL OFF! 3) there was NO toilet paper in the dispenser, 4) there were dirty glasses laying around WITH WATER IN THEM, ...and everything was so worn, dusty, and DIRTY!! The grill outside in our deck was plain ROTTEN, broken and rusty and we were scared to walk on our patio's pool deck for fear it would crack and we'd fall in a hole! This because we were told we got an "upgrade", so I can't imagine how the other rooms were! In essence, we paid a FORTUNE for this stay because of New Years Eve and honestly for the room we received, it was a COMPLETE RIP OFF. I would NOT wish this experience on anyone so definitely buyer beware. Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED.

The hotel is in a good location. Thiago was great at checkin. Gold level and advanced checkin with room being ready was great. The room itself could do with a little care. White walls and around door handles very dirty and need a clean with some bleach or some fresh paint. The blackout curtain was torn and the floor in the bedroom broken. Room's of a good size and the kitchenette useful

My girlfriend and I met up with an old friend of mine from aracruz. We stayed 3 nights. I speak almost no Portuguese, and the people at the front desk were good at speaking English. They held my luggage when we arrived before check in, which was a great service.

Staff was nice and welcome, but hotels itself looks a bit used and need some care: especially bathroom. There was a a broken machine in the gym. Breakfast was a total disappointment for us, almost nothing that could be eaten: strange onions with sausages, no meat, fish and vegetables. And all this happen during new year holidays, when the prices are higher.

The hotel is very well located, just behind Praia do Arpoador, with easy access both to Copacabana and Ipanema. The room is ok, well equipped and clean. Breakfast is fine, not great.

In general ok but had mix feelings with staff at front desk. Both Thiago and Victor were very helpful and ready to assist, even if requests could not be accommodated. On the contrary, had a poor experience with both ladies that were there. Not ready to assist and bad attitude.
