I was told I would receive a text msg with instructions for after hours check in...was not told specifically that this was going to be sent later in the evening. I had made the booking around midday, and gave credit card details for this booking. As you can imagine, because I had not received any confirmation from the hotel I started to panic as I had seen money being deducted from my account. I tried numerous times for at least 4 hours to make contact with the hotel but could not get through. When I finally got through the lady reassured me that everything is fine and that I would receive the message later that evening - which I did. I also asked for a copy of my receipt which she said I would get at checkout. I had also asked if it could be sent to me via email which I provided. I did not receive this on checkout nor have I received it as yet. I understand that this is a budget hotel however I don't expect the level of customer service to be that poor either. I will not be recommending this place to others unless processes change.

I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. I do apologise that your dealings with reception were not up to standard throughout your stay. We do have a late arrival procedure where we send our guests a late arrival text message between 20:00-21:30 to ensure they gain access to the hotel whilst we are closed between 22:00-07:00. This text is sent late in the afternoon for security reasons as we have a close out period during the day where guests use the safety deposit box to access day use keys. I do apologise that your tax invoice was missed in the payment run of the morning. I have ensured that this was sent this morning upon reading your message. Usually, pending unforseen variables, this is sent before 10:00 most days. I find it very strange that you were unable to access the hotel via phone and will be addressing this issue with staff. The only uncontactable time should be between 22:00-07:00 amd 10:00-12:00 where staff are accessible by hotel guests only. Please give your housekeeping staff more time to actually clean properly. We found long black hair and short black hairs on the top bunk and pillow. The bathroom was not great either. I’m sure the cleaning staff are doing their best but give them more time to clean thoroughly to ensure the bedding is hygienic. The reception area smelt bad!

Ibis Newcastle was easy to check in and out of and clean which is just what you need when using it to stop over on your way to somewhere else. The staff were very welcoming and polite. However, we were staying on the ground floor and it was impossible to get any sleep after 6am as you can hear every single noise on the floor. Keep that in mind if you want to get some shut eye after a long days driving.

I did not expect too much from the Ibis Budget - simply a place to sleep and somewhere clean to shower. We arrived to a stinking hot room (it was around 9pm when we arrived and the room we were allocated was west facing). The air conditioning was turned off. Even when turned on it was not effective which meant little to no sleep that night - the room did not cool down significantly. Our room faced the highway so opening the window was not an option. There was also an infestation of small cockroaches who came out when it got dark and scuttled away when the light was turned on. The lady on the front desk was very friendly and checked us in quickly and efficiently.

« It was great to stay at your hotel but disappointed by the shower facilities and room service staff! »

The shower taps are too short, first thing you’d enjoy from a long drive! That was the worst shower I’ve ever seen in my entire life! The shower tabs are on the same level with the toilet floor which means water splashed out from the taps floods in the small toilet cubicle. A few MMs off the toilet floor would make a big difference! A better system for the “room service” INTRO and ask for permission before uncontrollable and loud door knocking which made it worse when the door was flagged open in less than 30 seconds.... forcefully...but to realise that actually someone was in! How rude is that??? Due to their lack of mannerisms or even being apologetic, I sent them away. Perhaps a knock and mention, “room service” and wait for a reply or “will come back later” could help! Above all, location wise, it’s convenient if you have a vehicle from my experience!

I made a last minute booking and was able to check in late (around 11pm). It was in a convenient location off the highway and had free parking. The room was very basic but the bed was comfortable, the sheets were fresh and a block out blind meant I could sleep in a little longer than usual. They provided soap and tea/coffee making facilities. The TV worked fine. The only real downside was the bathroom which was a strange self contained pod and smelt bad, and the basin was separate in the bedroom.

I apologise for the bathroom smell, I have had our plumber come and have a look at our pipes. The wet weather Newcastle has experienced has flushed out the council pipes and unfortunately led to the smell in some of our rooms. We do attempt to work with the layout of the hotel as we took over from a Formula One. It is not the most ideal layout but there is not a lot of movement with the constraints of the design. Middle aged woman travelling alone. Arrived at 1150am. Rang bell, door answered by cleaner. Could not answer query re booking. Seedy people hanging in carpark. Did not feel safe. Called friend and asked them to call ibis wallsend and transfer booking to safer ibis in Newcastle. She did so but was (apparently rudely) told this could not be done. I decided my safety was paramount and stayed at Ibis Hinter St. They were fine but this was not a good experience, and very expensive.

Unfortunately the Ibis Budget brand is not directly linked to the Ibis Brand and cannot transfer bookings between systems. We are a safe hotel with staff on site at all times. Our General Manager does live in the hotel and our Assistant Manager stays during her relief days. Our reception area is closed between 10am and 12pm to allow the housekeeping staff to service the rooms in time for people who would like to check in at midday. We are a unique hotel in the area for this as most hotels have checkin from 2pm. Our receptionist would have been on the desk at 12pm but may have been still arriving, in a meeting or getting prepared for her shift. Our housekeeping staff are an independently contracted company and do not have access to customer files unfortunately in order to provide guests with any information. I am not sure what seedy people were hanging around in the carpark, and I do apologise for them making your feel uneasy. You would have found an emergency contact number next to the door on arrival and this number is always manned by the manager on site. Should you ever need it, we are always here. « Safe, tidy and served is purpose »

Checking in took a bit of time but very friendly customer service. Room was private and quiet enough (facing carpark) and comfy bed. Shower was actually not bad, but a little claustrophobic with threats of fire alarm going off of not all closed off. Left the toilet for wet but came up with system to remedy that so was ok.
