« Worst food ever - socks in the bathroom - wifi was the worst »

Ordered medium rare steak with turnip tops and fries - received well done thin slice of meat with spinach, no fries, no nothing. Food was cold and not eatable. Food was returned. Instead of the whole amount, 3€ were still charged in the end. There were still socks from the former inhabitants in the bathroom. WiFi did not work properly - was extremely slow and unreliable.

Our stay in the Mercure Hotel in Gaia was a very nice experience thanks to the excellent service of the staff. From the moment of check-in till the moment of check-out we were always promptly assisted if we needed any help our information. All the staff at the reception counter were extremely helpful and left us with nice memories. The rooms were extremely comfortable and clean, enjoyed also the big variety of TV channels. There was no time to try out the restaurant or bar, but for sure the breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of local products, varieties of juices and coffees.

The only negative aspect of our stay was the extreme difficulty of finding the hotel, even with the help of a satnav. We wasted half an hour. Although visible from the highway it is tucked behind a shopping centre with no obvious access route. Much, much more signage from the A2 would help. Otherwise, the room was spacious and well equipped - we appreciated the coffee machine and fridge, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom good quality. The menu in the restaurant was limited but very pleased to find a vegetarian gluten-free option on it. Breakfast was good. We have booked another overnight pre-departure.

Staff were friendly, helpful with taxis, and the room was excellent. But it is too far from the city centre for someone who prefers public transport, and it was not easy to see this from the internet.

« Good experience though not completely as expected as an gold member »

Though an Accorhotels gold member this was my first stay in a Mercure hotel. The overall experience was good, the welcome drink and daily provision of water, coffee and tea, fruit and cake is much appreciated. The only difference compared with Pullman hotels is that no provision of a discount on consumption on food and beverages. As the hotel booking through the Accorhotels app was not possible it was done through the Mercure hotel reception, first through phone and then followed by email, and the assistance given is much appreciated. The hotel reception / treasury department had some problems / difficulties with the charge of the first day room deposit amount with my credit card, maybe needing some internal review for improvement.

the fact that is far from centre, far from any metro etc plus, i stayed there on my birthday, i even wrote it on the special comments before checking in.......i didn't expect the stay for free but some kind of small token even a bottle of water would have been appreciated! other hotels actually gave me free upgrades to seviews when i stayed on mine or my wife birthday!

Portugal was on Red Alert when we arrived due to the excessive heat. The hotel reception were extremely kind and caring and could not have been more helpful, particularly Pedro.The air conditioning coped really well.The hotel was situated next to a shopping mall and near to the Port Wine Cellars but you need a good GPS! The hotel decor reflected the Port Wine connection, This seems to be a welcome feature in Mercure Hotels. Breakfast was until midday - a real plus for us! My only small criticism was the volume of the piped music in the communal areas.
