« Poor front desk service and room got smaller than the one I had »

I stayed at Novotel in Munich city for three nights in total, 4th, 7th and 8th June 2018. On 7th June, I had a late check-in. Served by Dario, a disgruntled front desk staff. My colleagues experienced the same bad service on that very day. I had a parcel which already arrived at the hotel. So I asked politely if the hotel has received. He took out a letter which belonged to me, and I asked if there were other parcel, he said no flatly. So I walked up to my room and realized my keys were not working. He was slamming files, rummaging papers as I waited to be served once more to get my card access fixed. I told him the card didn’t work and he just dumped the card I gave into the trash bin, and magnetized another two cards, without any words of apology. Frankly, I do not think he enjoys his job since he was obviously showing bad attitude to all the guests. Please watch your surveillance camera when Dario is on duty and you will know what I mean. I asked if he has seen my parcel one more time since I was fixing the card access. Then he gave a frustrated face, walked back into the back office then dropped the parcel on the desk to me. No apologies for making walk a second time.. And my room got smaller than I had during my last visit in March. I will be returning again for a longer stay but perhaps I will not stay in Novotel again. The rooms given were pathetic on top of the bad service from your front desk staff. I held back my anger to be frank. I really wanted to tell him to resign since he didn’t like what he does. Novotel is a big conglomerate. And just one bad experience from a single hotel will cost you bad reputation over the rest. If I return, I hope not to see this staff of yours again.

« Consistent Novotel experience »

Overall a good stay thanks to comfortable room, extensive breakfast, nice wellness, central location and free minibar. Points to be improved: long check-in and check-out queues (have seen the queues during the entire stay, process seems to take longer than in other countries - staff is friendly though and apologizes for the waiting time) + I don't think to have receive an upgraded room (Gold member). All other Gold benefits were granted. Also like the possibility to refuse housekeeping in return for a drink or extra points!

out of the 4 nights I stayed at the hotel only one day I had the room cleaned. I do not expect house clean to replace towel or make the bed, but at least empty trash cans, refile the soap dispenser, refill the toilet paper and so on.

« Very good place to stay to explore Munich and visit the Exhibition Center. »

The hotel is very conveniently located within walking distance from the center of Munich (15-20 minutes) and about 100 meters from a U and S station. The room that I stayed in was a bit on the small size, but very clean, equiped with a large Smart TV and many USB charging points throughout. The bed was comfortable, although I prefer spring mattresses to latex. The bathroom was, comparatively to the room size larger than average, with both shower and bathtub although both a bit constrictive. No luxury toiletries - a multipurpose wash liquid dispenser in the shower and shampoo and body wash containers for the bathtub. A good hairdryer was also available. Breakfast was good, with a wide selection of items of good quality. The restaurant however was expensive, charging €9.50 for Jack Daniels and €25.00 for salmon when there are as good and significantly cheaper restaurants at the city center only a short walk away! Staff were attentive and positively disposed to offer assistance, although I had to ask five different individuals before I received correct instructions

« rooms ok, restaurant experience could have been better »

The room was functional, enough sockets/power points, well placed, near the beds also, and also special sockets (USB type) for electronic devices. The reception desk was mostly nice, especially one Italian, Dario, I think. Bad restaurant experience, bad take care on the first evening (after we did not eat there any more) and the food was disappointing: the quality is bad and unhealthy, the allergy accommodation program is poor... We came late after having had problems on the journey, with the restaurant one could not feel coming home. It was very noisy were we were seated, the I asked if I could change the place that there were on the other side, by the opposite side tables where no one was sitting. I told the female waiter that there was two tables where there was stuff (coats and on the other a computer). She answered me in an unfriendly manner that then they are occupied. I replied that there had been no one sitting there. So she told me, again in an unfriendly manner, that I must take care of that my self. (I think that it is the restaurant's task to find out the situation). So I did, there were two men sitting between those two tables, and they took away the coats, apparently the computer on the other table was also theirs, so they occupied three tables together while I was desperately finding a place to eat without no assistance of the stuff. So I think that side of the hotel's activity could be improved. The computers in the hall didn't work during our whole stay (6 nights). Some other "dramas" occurred also, but ended well. Explanation to the answer to the question about choosing the hotel because it is not simply yes or no - I would not that much choose the Accor hotels now as I lost my Golden status for the first time. I am member to the other chains too, like Carlson, Radisson.
