Excellent in places, disappointing in others yet a good, if not the expected wonderful stay overall.

watson-marsh-uk TripAdvisor review

Excellent in places, disappointing in others yet a good, if not the expected wonderful stay overall. Location was an issue for me, given that I was travelling without a car and by public transport; with the hotel situated on the edge of a residential area and on one of the main arterial roads into the town it should be easy to reach yet it is very difficult to walk from the central district to the hotel (google maps is vastly inaccurate) and certainly not to be attempted after dark. The hotel is not on a bus route nor close to one. Therefore, the only option is a taxi which will cost £8-£10 however they are difficult to hail or book during the early evening or morning. The welcome by the hotel team was warm, friendly and efficient. The room was a very long walk from the reception, hotel entrance, bar and restaurant etc. yet the corridors were well decorated and maintained. On entering the executive room it became apparent that the space was not the finest of Novotel rooms and was dated in terms of décor and amenities, for example, the television was old and small which surprised me given my past experience of the brand. One of the reasons that I booked the hotel was it leisure facilities, yet, it was not possible to use the pool, etc. Given the popularity of these, mainly it would seem from non-residents, I was not able to reserve a required time slot at a convenient time at any point during my stay either in the evening or morning, which was very disappointing. The open-plan bar and restaurant was a pleasant place to eat and drink yet the menu was limited and not that inspiring and the same can be said for the drinks available. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout. Disappointing stay given previous experience with the Novotel Brand elsewhere.

Hotel was amazing, food was good, pool was incredible. Only criticism is the children not getting robes and slippers in the room. My 12 year old was extremely disappointed. I did even go down yo reception to ask for some and was told no

Excellent one night stay, missed breakfast by 10 mins but was treated to a full English by a totally brilliant member of the kitchen staff. Didn't use the pool as there were lessons all the time when I could but that's fine, although the pool would have been a bonus. The room was warm and clean, the bed was super comfy, not too hard. Was given extra coffee and sugar at reception when requested x Would use again

Perfect- except for the pub food :-/

Ellen B TripAdvisor review

This is a great place to stay, I was with my kids and dog- staff are wonderful and everything is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is great, but only huge let down is the pub food for evening meals- it is seriously overpriced and poor quality. A side of bread is £5 and the meals range from about £10-£20 and are very sub standard- over cooked and flavourless- really disappointing. Stay here, but organise to eat your evening meal elsewhere!
