« Average »

Room 202 in Newcastle was unfortunately a disappointment. We checked in and returned late at 11.30pm to the smell of old paint or similar. There were little cockroaches in the room and a blanket was dirty with old stains on - similar to chicken soup or vomit. The wall behind the fold up bed had coffee stains on. I am sure a good clean and spray can fix the problem.

« Ideal »

Convenient Location with excellent staff, Housekeeping in particular did a terrific job. Smooth check in and clean tidy room. Only one staff member on Reception for Checkout on a Monday morning led to some delays for myself and other guests but this was the only negative in an otherwise faultless stay.

« Enjoyable »

We enjoyed our stay. We were not in the hotel for an extended period, but your check In/check out staff were friendly professional and helpful. Andrew (??) you bartender on Saturday night was also very accommodating and an excellent bartender. Appreciated the Brownies and water in the room. We had not stayed at the Ibis brand previously and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the service and the room standards. Well done.

« Smelly carpet and rundown interior »

The room smell like lots of dust and I felt someone smoke there?? Carpet smell, Toilet looks like a cheap job Interior is run down, chair is dirty, table has scratches, veneer came off. Bed is comfortable. Desk is too small to work. Toilet looks very strange. Not sure if I will come here again.

« Appalling »

Room was smaller then expected, plenty of dust and hair left from previous stay overs. Other guests where highly disturbing to us and we witnessed a man peeing on his door whilst being naked. We felt uncomfortable and a bit intimidated

When we first arrived to our room it had not yet been cleaned. The best wasn't made the bathroom was gross and there was dirty cutlery on the desk? My partner and I weren't happy but understand that mistakes are made so we went to walk down to reception and we left our bags upstairs in the room, we came across a staff member who was obviously a cleaner so we asked her if she was gong to get to our room soon as we had just checked in and it wasn't clean she told us she would get to it before we came back so we decided to go exploring for a few ours and leave the room hoping it would be cleaned when we got back. 2 hours later we arrived back at the hotel went up to the room and nothing had changed so i rang reception to tell the our situation. The lady who helped with us was incredibly polite and very nice she told us to come down and she would give us a new room. So we lugged out bags down to reception and she was very apologetic and gave us our new room. Up the elevator we went and finally arrived a our room. We popped the key in and opened the door on a couple who were in bed. The couple got very angry at us for opening their room even though it was the room that the receptionist gave us. We didn't appreciate being yelled at by stangers for something that wasn't our fault in the first place. Anyway obviously annoyed we went back down stairs to reception and explained what happened. The receptionist thought it was funny and so did the other receptionist making a joke about it. My partner and i went along with it because we aren't rude people but did not appreciate it at all. Finally we were given a room that was cleaned and had no one in it. Not very happy.

« Poor breakfast, terrible bathroom and tiny room resulting in poor value for rate charged »

This was the worst and the second most expensive hotel we had stayed at over the previous 10 days and that includes country motels and the old Mercure in Canberra. Room was tiny with no allocation for open suitcases, tiny bathroom with latch door that required a large effort to open and made a loud noise each time the door was opened and closed so late night loo breaks resulted in the sleeping partner being woken up with a loud 'bang' of the door opening or closing. Virgin Trains in the UK have larger toilets than this rooms's bathroom. The breakfast was terrible lacking variety and my wife vomited up the scrambled eggs not long after breakfast. On the second day the hallway had broken packing straps scattered around on the floor and one particular house staff member was too busy pushing into the lift ahead of guests to care contrary to another house staff member who was the complete opposite and lovely. Car parking at the Mercure Canberra cost $10.00 a day whereas at the Ibis Newcastle it was $15.00 a day making little sense. On the up side the front desk staff were excellent and although the location is in the 'dying' Hunter Street it is within easy walking distance of the waterside where there are plenty of eating and drinking options. Thankfully the bed mattress was excellent which alleviated some of the other issues. The majority of the clientele appeared to be there on business so this may be the target market for Ibis Newcastle. If you are visiting Newcastle for pleasure then be prepared to pay extra for a better experience

« Perfect for the quick business trip »

Once again, the service was exceptional. If I do not get a chance later, the only lapse (if I may call it that) was the lack of coffee in the room. The were only two sachets of regular coffee, and four de-caf.

Paid secure parking was full, coming back from our outing we were not able to park in specified parking area. The Doona was absolutely disgusting & unsanitary, went to fold it up and put in wardrobe as it was too hot to use on the bed. The doona was falling apart & ripped along the sides also yellow stains on it.

« Started badly, improved over the 2 days. »

Reception staff poorly trained by Management - air conditioner malfunctioned - very noisy - first morning, housekeeping did not clean bathroom or shower - breakfast okay but not enough staff to clear tables and refill breakfast foods and drinks - Go Get was good.

« Too expensive for such a small room with a tiny bathroom. »

The room was very clean & the staff were friendly. The internet was fast and working well. The Room attendants were friendly and efficient. They kept everything clean. Breakfast was nothing special and the room was too small. I didn't like the tiny bathroom. However, the bed was comfy.
