Actually we had to attend a party and this hotel was conveniently located. So we enjoyed the room and breakfast and didn't make use of any other facilities.

When staying in a Novotel, you normally expect a "boring" experience with no surprises (upwards or downwards). This time was no different, except that under the sofa bed there was a sock from a previous guest and it was dirty. We went out for dinner and asked the receptionist to send someone to take the sock out. We were out a couple of hours and when we were back the sock was still there. We had to go down again and this time the receptionist came up and took the sock, but no cleaning or anything else was done. Very disappointing experience on this sense. The rest as usual: comfortable bed, good breakfast and quick to get in and out.

The room was very nice and the breakfast was good. Overall an enjoyable and comfortable stay. What I didn't like were the additional charges for 'local tax'. I have stayed at other places in Mechelen and have never had to pay this.

« Nice hotel with some discomfort »

I enjoyed the stay, room was nice, clean and quiet. But I need my toilet with hand washing possibilities, drain in my shower did not work properly and the bathroom door was unable to close because of the bed placing. Since I was alone in the room I was able to work around these things, and otherwise the hotel was very nice, location was good and the breakfast was great.

Check in took a very long time. A month ago I experienced the same issue. In both cases we were with a group of 15-20 persons - large, but all prebooked and it took us more than 30 minutes waiting line while 2 check-ins were open. Never experienced this in other hotels.

I am staying every thing, but this time it was a huge queue and the waiting time was approx. 40 minutes for the check-in. Check-out was fast. Good experience overall.

The rooms are always comfortable and clean. Internet is fast and easy to use for business purposes. I wish there was an ice machine and mini-bar in the room, but this is a minor issue. The food is incredible. This will continue to be the hotel I stay at when I visit Mechelen.

Overall I really enjoyed my stay. Comfortable bed, good variety at breakfast and good customer service in general. Disappointed at lack of complimentary water. Only 1 small bottle on arrival, should be restocked every day for the price. Also the toiletries were very basic, no conditioner. Again, would expect more for the price.

This was probably my 5th or 6th stay in Mechelen. With a previous visit to Mechelen (Novotel was fully booked at the time o making arrangements) I approached reception the next day of my arrival to see if I could change hotels. I was lucky to get a room due to a cancellation. The only areas of improvement: the wash basins are awful (sorry), I believe bottled water is inexpensive enough to replace every day (makes the guest's stay more comfortable), and the bar/restaurant area is generally under staffed.
