« Another good stay at Novotel Cologne »

The refurbishment of the rooms makes them quite attractive and functional. The location is great for the city centre ,but also good to exit for Bonn with the car. The Kranheuser development across the road offers some nice cafes and restaurants. We liked Vapiano's particularly as good value and with a lively ambiance. We used the fitness facilities on the roof floor - which are adequate and afford super views across the Rhine. If you go outside and look due north then the Dom view can be excellent especially as the sun rises or sets. Breakfast is good - we loved the honeycomb and the rolls and bread selection is great. The staff are pretty helpful and, although its a busy hotel, try to give you quality attention.

« Very nice experience »

It was a very nice experience. The hotel is well located, the rooms are very good and also the gym is enough for doing a little bit of exercise in the morning. But overall we want to thanks the people of the team at the hotel, very helpful and especially the woman at reception desk on Friday evening. (sorry I do not remember her name) who was very friendly and help my daughter because she lost her Teddy in the street. The restaurant is also very good, we had dinner both nights there because my children wanted to past time in the hotel. So, as conclusion, very nice experience for my family and me.

I liked staying in Novotel Koel City. The room was very nice and the breakfast was done very well. The area for children. My daughter really enjoyed there. But the reception staff needs to be improved. Two mistakes in one booking for 95 euro ? I got 80 % back of the amount. But where is the rest. I am stiil waiting for the response from hotel. This kind of things should not happend.

« Good experience - but marked by both, pros and cons »

Pro: Rooms updated according to current Novotel design; new bathroom installations; wellness area at the top floor with terrace; large hotel parking for EUR 17 p.d.; great variety and quality at the breakfast; very friendly and attentive service at the restaurant, bar and check-out; Con: Very unapproachable reception at the check-in; no consideration of special requests on the room (although this should have been possible); standard pillows with foam filling (feather pillow in the closet); tram station 5-7 min. away; Novotels are often used by families with smaller children (due to the sofa bed in room); For reservations via a third-party agency or booking website you don't receive points at their loyalty program, neither do the stays count for maintaining your membership status. Accor just don't understand or don't want to accept that in most companies employees are not allowed to book directly at a website but need to book through a business travel agency portal - and not for each hotel a company rate is negotiated. Especially for frequent traveller I highly recommend to consider this case.Mehr

To be honest that was the worst experience I’ve had at a Novotel Hotel. Poor service and the photos about the hotel don’t really represent what it’s like. I would consider this more of an Ibis Hotel.

Had a nice time at the hotel. Rooms are nice, beds comfortable, all very modern. Best part was breakfast, albeit quite expensive. Nice area, regenerated part of cologne, good for a walk around. Only downside was the temperature in room. Quite warm and airco did not do much and was noisy. It was not a hot day, but I'd imagine in summer, this would be very uncomfortable

Convenient, modern rooms, with usb charger, rfid room card (no problem with de-magnetizing room access cards). The breakfast is good. The staff at the reception and car are very friendly and helpful. My favorite place to stay in cologne.

room was lovely - apart from the washbasin in the bathroom which had no plug and was difficult to keep clean due to its odd design. staff were very friendly and helpful. the hotel is very bright and airy and has a very positive feel about it.

negative points: - some of the staff is arrogant and unprofessional (not everyone, some were nice) - same questions have to repeated and are not followed up: for example we order a bottle of water from room service at night, but after a wait of 15 min and calling reception again, we are told that we need to get it from the bar ourselves. What kind of room service is this for a 4* hotel? The next day, when I order a cup of warm milk, it is suddenly delivered to the room. - the garage ticketing system is horrible. It was a nightmare every time I had to leave the hotel: on the first day of arrival I had booked the garage for 3 days but the ticket would not work every now and then. After some time it became clear that the hotel staff didn't validate the ticket for 36 hours. They every time validated it for few hours only but they didn't communicate about it at all. It was always trial and error when I was in the garage (and then run to the reception if it didn't work as they wouldn't answer calls from the garage intercom at times). I really think they didn't answer the phone on purpose once as I made it clear that it was becoming very frustrating. The worst part is every day there was somebody new at the reception and I had to explain them over and over that I booked the garage for 3 days, and I never even got any apology or proper explanation whether the ticket needs to be validated every time I leave the hotel or not? They just make arrogant faces. Not sure if I will book Novotel again, but definately not this hotel! The hotel itself was nice but the service made it unpleasant.

« clean place for a business stay »

The hotel was clean and bed was comfortable. It's not far from the train station, which was important as I was commuting to the convention center. Breakfast is good but expensive. I wish they would have had a less expensive option for those days I didn't want a full meal. To get other food options, you need to walk a short distance towards the train station. If you're coming from America or a place where you are used to using washcloths, take note that they do not provide them. Maybe that's a European thing? Overall, service was efficient and staff was courteous.

The facility and the room were clean and with nice modern furniture. We booked a triple room, the third bed was an appropriate convertible sofa big enough for a tall adult. Correct spaces for the room even if not the top booking class.
