The hotel is in a very good location and has a nice lobby and swimming pool. Good breakfast buffet. The rooms however are old and dark and smell strongly of smoke despite being "no smoking" floors. The smell was overpowering.

« It was better than expected. »

After reading some of the reviews about this hotel, I was a little concerned about the establishment. Nonetheless, I've stayed at dozens of hotels and have experienced everything from 5 stars to 0 star accommodations and was ready for anything. My minimal expectations are for a clean room and courteous staff. I'm happy to say, both expectations were met. The location was a plus as well!! I do want to add that the restaurant staff needs to be reminded about food handling standards. On more than one occasion, I witnessed different workers commit what I consider code violations. One scraped up spilled food from the counter with his hands and put it back in the serving bowl. Another placed a dropped serving spoon from the floor back on the serving utensil dish. I would recommend the hotel, but also to be wary of the restaurant.

The overall experience was excellent. The breakfast was 10 out of 10. The staff were very helpful and the bed was very comfortsble. A map of the city would've been extremely helpful however this was out of the hotels control. The gym was well equipped.

Despite good reviews on Hotels.com, I had my worst hotel experience ever! I've traveled to over 19 countries and this is the ONLY time I've had to change my room (and had to pay extra to do it!). The air conditioner was not working. I had to sit in the dark or the lights in the room heated it up too much. The carpet was disgustingly DIRTY. The lighting was horrible. Worst hotel room I've ever had. The new room (that I couldn't get into until night #4) was fine. I just can't believe there was only 100 RMB difference which means you are charging WAY too much for the old rooms.

This is the first time I have stayed here, location is very good, I walked to a lot of sights from the hotel like, The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven and Lama Temple. The room I stayed in was dated and quite dark. The size of the room was very good and bathroom was great. I found the bed to be very firm. The only downside I would say about this hotel is that whenever you enter at night, being a single male I was approached by ladies offering massages and female company. I do not chose Novotel hotels to have this happen at the entrance. The staff are not very friendly and English is limited. Check in and check out was relatively easy.

Amazing hotel with fantastic 24 hour well equiped gym and pool. The beds are so comfortable and the room is spotlessly clean. The breakfast is one of the best I have ever had, pancakes ,waffles, omelettes, everything and everyone is catered for! The only complaint I have is the reception had no map however as there is a new map being published that was out of their control. Tip for anyone staying in this hotel the air conditioning takes so long to cool the room so ensure you turn it on early or you won't be able to sleep!

The Hotel has a good location near to the Shopping area and forbidden city. The lobby is very nice. The rooms need to be renovated. Bad smell in the room, Air condition seemed not been maintained the last 10 years, bathroom and floor/ carpet to be renovated.

The location was very strategy. The room bed need to be upgraded as the first night our bed uneven its make my husband back ache, whenever we complaint with the housekeeping, they told us its because long term slept by the guest, and its cannot be change, its obviously not quality control on the bed. After that we request the reception to change another room to us. The toilet condition are old got the black stain, and smelly. We did write a letter to their manager on the second day, but there is no reply. But whenever we call direct to the hotel, MS Zhang who answering my call was so helpful and friendly, she analyze the advantages and the benefit of this hotel, and she recommended us the suitable room that we no need to pay for so much.

We arrived after midnight. Hanson was the one who checked us in. He was very slow with the process, given there was no one else around and it was after 12 - we were very tired. He was unfriendly and uncommunicative. We were upgraded to a suite - which was very spacious but the furnishing is old and tired. The fridge for the minibar is not cold at all. The beds are very hard. For our entire stay, we could not access the internet and had to use data. Staff at the front desk rudely suggested it was our devices. 2 mobiles and 1 laptop all at fault? I have read reviews that rate the internet connectivity poorly. Also, our shower leaked and we were woken by a telephone call at 10pm when we had to be awake by 6am the next morning. It was a fault of the plumbing and not us. It was difficult to communicate with the staff about how long the job would take. The staff seemed to fix the issue, but left a sopping wet towel they had used in the shower.

« Old hotel needs refurbish badly, nice staff , great location and lounge access saves the day. »

The room is large but looks old and shabby... the small things need attention.. the carpet seems dirty to a point you dont feel like walking without slippers. the bathroom again has small things wrong with it.. the rain shower seems as if it going to fall on you and seems like its bad workmanship.. the shower floor again seems dirty due to the old fashioned tile groves etc... the shower area is small and all the water seeps out between the door of the shower .. below the sink area there is some wood structure bottom of which is decayed and again gives that dirty feel.... Enough negatives but the staff at the lounge was great .. extremely courteous and helpful.. the lounge spread is nice and the views are great .. the location of the hotel is amazing too. It is a 10 min walk to forbidden city and 2 min walk to all the mall shopping area.... the only thing i would change is that the menu is a bit repetitive ...

Overall Good. Rooms were nice. Except reception was occasionally rude. Wanted to break my 100RMB to smaller bills, but got a rude no. Dinner at hotel restaurant was not good. Ordered a la carte instead of buffet. Service was slow. When the meals arrived it was wrong. Ordered seafood pasta, but got pasta with tomato sauce. Staff was unaware seafood pasta was on the menu. Had to point it out to them. Also ordered sweet and sour pork, which was more batter than pork and it was cold. Could not eat it. Expected better for the price.
