Halway was a bit noisy, bathroom a bit dated. Kitchenet would have been good, maybe this was available in other room choices but it was not that obvious that our room choice didnt have it. Child area downstairs was a great idea. Good facilities. Great customer service.

We stayed at Hamilton Novotel on the Friday night and Ellerslie on the Saturday, the room quality was better in Hamilton, however the staff and restaurant far better at Ellerslie. The only complaint I would have is that we left a couple of items behind in the room and phoned the next day to ask if the cleaners found them and no one ever came back to us. The items were not of high value however 1 item was a thermos coffee mug with a personal photo on it that had centimental value and would liked to have got it back.

Pros: Firstly let me say the staff were very friendly and helpful. Clean room with a comfortable bed. Good TV with easy to work remote. Cons: No opening windows. The prices for wifi and mini bar are exorbitant. Even thought I received wifi free, I was surprised at the daily cost. The cost of water from the mini bar,and the cost of breakfasts. I thought the Rotorua Novotel was expensive last year but it seems prices have risen substantially in the last twelve months. The food - I was at a conference where, because there were several other conference attendees who were gluten free, the Novotel decided served the 220 or so rest of us uneatable gluten free scones, muffins, and bread (sliced white gluten free bread from the supermarket at our fancy Saturday night dinner - no one ate it because it was terrible. Why couldn't the rest of us have a plan dinner roll? The buffet lunches were a mix of flavours that didn't go together all served with over cooked rice, overcooked pasta and lack of salad on the first day. The fancy dinner we all attended had not one green vegetable on the plate. Why chefs think a meal is complete without green vegetables in beyond me. Also the lamb was either so rare or so over cooked that people didn't eat it, and the chicken tasted like it had sat for longer than necessary. I was embarrassed on behalf of an American guest who sat to my left. She left most of her meal. I understand it is not easy to get it right when you are serving 200 people, but you make such a thing of your wonderful dinning experience, and quite frankly, your food is just not up to scratch. I am now waiting for one of your annoyingly persistent sales staff to call me. They refuse to let you off the phone and always tell you you deserve to treat yourself as if we are all poor peasants who never leave the house. Hmm - interesting.

I stayed at Novotel Ellerslie for a conference last weekend. Staff I spoke to were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, and noise levels were low. Unfortunately on the first night of my stay someone on the floor above me let their bath overrun and I was woken up at midnight by the sound of water flooding through my bathroom ceiling. After two attempts I got through to reception on the room phone and they sent someone up to get the water turned off and mop up the water with some towels. I was not offered the opportunity to change rooms or have the night refunded, just told that housekeeping would clean the bathroom the next morning.

We were greeted by a wonderful lady called Varna who was so helpful and actually set the tone for our stay. Friendly, smiling and so bubbly we couldn’t help but feel welcome. We were there for the RWNZ conference, so spent most of our time tied up with the various events. However, my husband who came more as support for me, spent a considerable amount of time in the bar and in our room. We ended up eating out as we felt the food was over priced (particularly with the room service), and felt the room itself was tired. We also felt the parking was quite expensive given we were paying guests.

« Great conference hosts but my floor was super noisy »

You hosted our RWNZ Conference and were brilliant - would have given you 10 for that. But my floor (1) had a bunch of children staying who were in and out of each other's rooms and being noisy til very late on Thurs-Sat - 1am on Saturday night. I complained to the front desk on Sat but nothing was done until I yelled at them myself.

Can't thank Edith (front office manager) enough, she went above and beyond when I experienced an allergic reaction. Her care was fast and efficient all the while her calm demeanour settled my nervousness. I was seen quickly by medical staff and treated. Edith even leaving her personal cellphone so I could contact my family as I had forgot my belongings in the rush to get to A&E. Thank you so much!
