Overall, front desk staff were excellent, room was up to my expectations. What let the hotel down was the renovations happening overnight, namely I believe on the 1st floor. Coming back at night, the lift stopped on 1st floor, staff member got in, the smell of 'solvent' was over powering. Many guests in lift commented on smell. Staff member advised some reno work was being done on 1st floor. No problem with that. Unfortunately, your staff member's clothes just smelt of that solvent based smell. Next morning my business partner and I had breakfast on the first floor. My friend asked me if I had eaten any of the pineapple from the breakfast bar. I went and got some, could not eat it. The pineapple tasted like it had been dipped into solvent. It appears the pineapple was not properly covered overnight and the vapour had got through it. We advised a staff member, he took the pineapple off the breakfast counter. I also advised a staff member at the front desk when I checked out. I thought I would have had some feedback. I believe this would have been a major concern for your hotel, just to reassure your clients that the matter was being looked into and my concerns were being addressed.

Dear Branko, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Welcome Melbourne. We thank you for your detailed feedback and we apologize for the inconveniences experienced. We did some work at Louden Kitchen on the 6th of February, and rest assured that despite the strong smell, the product used is completely non-toxic and food-safe grace. We conducted the same work 2 weeks prior without any issue and should we were made aware by the contractor that the smell was going to travel to guest accommodation floor as it did, we would have used more extraction fans to eliminate the smell. Feedback such as yours allows us to identify areas of improvement and I thank you again for providing a review and apologies for the inconveniences experienced. The location of the hotel is very good - centrally located, right in Chinatown and can reach many places by foot. The room is clean, and considered spacious - for single occupancy. It comes with the basics - in terms of toiletries, I wash there's liquid soap instead of the pieces. The work desk does not come with a table lamp though it is equipped with enough powerpoints on the table (2 USB and one 3-pin, of which the latter was loose which I ended up not using).

External noises nonexistent, some internal noises, water, cleaners, in fact, one evening hammer drilling could be heard up to ten pm, which we weren’t thrilled about. Staff were excellent and position of hotel ultra convenient. I have to say that this is the second survey, as we filled out the one in the room, but willing of course to do so.

It was great But disturbed in our room (822) by renovating works in next form early morning and afternoon I rang reception to my surprise they didn’t even know about it , but swiftly moved us to (1144) would have thought they wouldn’t do renovations with loud noise when there is somebody in next room

Room was mostly clean. Walls were quite thin and could hear a family arguing down the hall for the duration of stay. Would have liked the option of buying from a mini bar but it wasn't stocked. Paid only $1 each for an additional buffet breakfast which had a good range of vegetarian options.

Our procedure is for the Duty Manager to personally visit the room/s that the noise is emanating from and request that the guests reduce the noise. We do ensure that we protect the privacy and safety of other guests and never disclose who has reported the situation. If the noise continues, we also may offer guests in surrounding rooms the option of moving to an alternate room where they will not be disturbed. No issues about the room looking outdated however the stay was not very comfortable. It was especially weird that the door that opens to the adjoining room was unlocked and there were other occupants in that room! The security, or lack of, was a massive issue.

Dear Mark, Thank you for staying with us recently and for sharing your experience. I can certainly understand your concern regarding the inter-connecting doors. If I may explain how it works: It is required for hotels to have some rooms with inter-connecting doors, and whilst we endeavor to allocate them to family/ guests traveling together and require that extra facility, sometimes due to high occupancy we have to allocate rooms with inter-connecting doors to 2 separate guests. The way it works is; if both rooms keep their door closed, the guest from the other room WILL NOT be able to access the other room from their side as there's no door handle to open it. If you open your interconnecting door from your room, you will see another door, and as long as the guest from the next door keep their inter-connecting door closed, you won't be able to access their room, and vice versa. Every is ok but I was assigned room 228, a far end room and I could not connect with WIFI for the first night and upon request was change to room 321 with good WIFI connection the second day. I was rather piss-off when I approached the reception on 10th Feb morning, one of the lady receptionists was very defensive and refused to shift me my room but later on when she called up the IT help desk, she acknowledged the problem and let me shift to room 321. This really spoiled my holiday mood. Pls look into this issue as the customer has to walk far to room 228 yet cannot receive the WIFI connection, rather unfair to the customer.
