Have stayed here often over the years and while always ok, the old girl was looking a bit tired . Well that's all changing and the new rooms are great. The refurb shouldbe done in another few months. Bar and associated cafe could do with similar treatment.

Tired old rooms, lots of external noise, poor internet connectivity, lots of internal noise - construction noise during the day as they are updating rooms. No mention of this at the time of booking and still happy to charge usual rates!

First time staying at this hotel but very impressed with all aspects of the stay. Nice clean comfortable spacious room. Breakfast very nice, plenty of variety and staff helpful. All staff at the hotel were helpful from our arrival to our departure. Would definitely stay there again. Centrally located for access to shops and transport.

My daughter and myself really enjoyed ourselves. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. The hotel is close to everything. The only complaint we had was that the shower kept running hot and then cold.

overpriced. I looked directly onto a brick wall, could not sleep because of the permanent night light coming from the bathroom. It looks as if the hotel is trying to upgrade in the cheapest possible way. Mutton dressed as lamb. The smell coming from the carpet was overpowering, not enough rubbish bins, I could go on but I must say the shower was great

I found finding the reception desk confusing as you enter through one doorway, wait at a reception desk to be told that you have to follow the corridor to the reception desk for the Grand Mercure. My room was upgraded to the new Pullman rooms but there was no welcome drink voucher, newspaper to your room or even a bottle of water in the room as I have experienced regularly in the past.

In late September, we separated the reception area between the 2 hotels, and I apologize for the confusion and inconveniences experienced. I am delighted that we managed to provide you with a complimentary upgrade to one of our Pullman Rooms. In regards to newspaper, unfortunately we don't offer that service anymore. Instead we have them all in the foyer for guests to help themselves. We should have provided you with welcome drink voucher and bottled waters. Please accept my sincere apologies that it was not the case on this occasion. Rest assured that I have addressed your concerns to our Front Office Manager to ensure the incident remains isolated. When i made a booking through booking.com it said that the credit card provided had insufficient funds. There was $300 which was more than enough to ensure that it was a valid credit card. Booking said that we would pay at the hotel and no prepayment was required just a valid credit card. Tried to do over the phone and the concierge was somewhat helpful in letting me secure the room at the booking.com rate(which was inclusive of breakfast) but when i checked in and payed the hotel cost of $610, concierge informed me that breakfast was not included. This was not favourable as i had just cancelled a hotel down the road which had brekkie included in it’s price and had two rooms. If i knew that it was not going to have brekkie included i would have kept my original booking and stayed elsewhere. Travelling with two kids and not having brekkie included in the hotel price meant that i had to look for alternatives in the morning. Not happy!!! There is construction going on in the hotel which we were not notified of. Woke up on monday 12th to drilling going on...

Was a little dissatisfied with the cleanliness of the room. I moved my bed closer to the window and there was rubbish and things under the bed, like it hadn’t been vaccumed since the last guests. Also the bath/shower floor had like a black mark where you would stand, and it made me uncomfortable to shower.

The room was spacious and comfortable and very quiet. Centrally located for easy access to the city shopping, trains and trams. Staff very helpful in all areas of the hotel. Good breakfast choices and gluten free cereal and bread as I had requested.

Although we were booked into one of the refurbished rooms at the Swanston, we were upgraded. This corner room on the 12 th floor was superb. The staff as usual were just so helpful, especially the Staff member who rescued us from the long wait to check out. The valet parking attendants were also great.

New carpets and fittings were very nice. Window in first room was broken so we had to ask to move. Mattress cover was for a queen bed on a king bed so partner felt uncomfortable all night. Two lift were broken so it took ages to go up and down.
