A beautiful hotel & from checkin to checkout a lovely holiday experience. Spacious & comfortable sea view room with all the usual amenities plus the surprise of a kettle. Breakfast buffet had plenty of good quality choices & something for every palette. Staff kept it well stocked & very attentive friendly service. Ate in Arganier & M Beach restaurants & the quality & service was impeccable. Delicious fish dishes at M Beach. Comfortable & relaxing beds & sofas around the pool & on the beachfront. The Spa facilities were good & I had several wonderful back massages. All the staff, chambermaids, waiters, waitresses, concierge, reception, pool butler, & separate security guys were extremely friendly, helpful & caring. I had a back problem for a few days & everyone was most solicitous of my welfare even visiting the pharmacy for me. Thank you. I am sorry I cannot mention everyone but Jamal, Moulay, Aziz, Anwar thank you for your assistance & Karina & her colleagues on reception.

« Wonderful experience in Essaouira! »

We spent five days with our daughter, son in law and grandson (two rooms) at the Le Medina Sofitel in Essaouira. The rooms were very comfortable and clean, and the staff friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast at the hotel every day, and found them to be consistently wonderful.

The property is tired and is not as comfortable or welcoming as on my last visit. There are many minor issues within the room and the standard of fittings e.g the tap was not working properly, the shower thermostat did not operate properly, the wardrobes were tired and idnted, the room was in general need of refurbishment. The staff appeared indifferent with regard to some aspects of the service I have come to expect through the brand. The Thalassa staff experience was very tardy and the security and restaurant staff were not as efficient or enthusiastic for their positions as I have come to expect. « Good service was available although few improvements are needed in some areas. »

I felt everyone was very welcoming and helpful. However, general condition of bedroom and bathroom felt outdated and in need of modernisation. But the sea view from our room more than compensated it. The outdoor pool didn't feel heated during our stay. Perhaps January is out of season. There is also no information on the website about limited use of indoor heated pool. (During the day indoor pool is used for spa treatments only.) When we were told at the reception during check in process, we were hugely disappointed for our daughter, who was very much looking forward to swimming in warm pool. I'd also like to highlight I felt requesting holding charge of almost £400.00 was slightly out of line. Eventually the manager reduced it down to around £200.00 which I appreciated. However, I am still waiting for the money to be released back into my account. It has been 2 weeks since checking out. Generally received good service from very warm caring staffs.

« Nice Stay »

Our experience us what I expected of a Sofitel. Reakfast was great. Having breakfast by the pool was a relaxing experience. All hotel staff were great. The only downside was that we ordered hamburgers from room service and it was undercooked. I am not sure that it was this that caused my husband's gastroenteritis problems. He has been knocked out for 3 days now. But, overall, we were happy with the hotel.

From welcome with tea to lounging by the beach, we had a very enjoyable stay. Staff was very friendly and courteous, service at breakfast was impeccable. Hotel is in a great location for exploring the medina and the harbor as well as right by the beach. Beach club great for having tea or a drink and enjoying sun and water.

Staff in leading positions are rude, unfriendly and insisting even when shown documentaion on their mistakes. Many of the staff in lower positions were very nice and friendly. Executive Suite for 250 Euros per night in low season is worn down and can absolutely not be called either Executive or Suite. The bed was comfortable and we appreciated to be serverd dates, raisins and almonds in the room. To be charged 3 Euros for one Nespresso capsule whitout any warning about it in the price list is unfortunately describing the overall standard of this hotel. Poor breakfast and grumpy manager who shouted and gave reprimand to guests is not very pleasant. Accor Management should exclude this hotel.

« Not worthy of the MGallery name »

The only comfortable thing in this hotel was the bed in addition to dates, raisins and almonds offered in the room. We payed 250 Euros a night for an Executive Suite and what we got was a worn down suite so far away from 5 stars you can imagine. There were a Nespresso machine and 6 capsules, but upon check out we were charged 6 Euros for two capsules. The receptionist claimed that the mini bar price list informed this but when we checked, it was not correct. We showed her that it was not in the price list, but she still not offered a refund. Instead she insisted on charging us. During our breakfast we asked for an extra teaspoon and were told from the Manager to use the one we already got and had used. Then he grabbed one and wiped it off on his trousers before handing it over. This hotell has not the faintest resemblance to any other MGallery hotell we have ever stayed in and can only be recommended to those usually staying in two or three stars hotels.

« Excellent service, but there were several maintenance problems »

I remember this hotel as it was being built and although I didn't stay in it during its Sofitel years I have enjoyed it several times over the past decade. The service is remarkable and the breakfast out by the pool a delight. This visit however will be remembered as just after checking in, we took the lift with our luggage to the first floor only to have one of the two ceiling panels fall on us (the porter was quick to blame the lift servicing company!). In the room the bath taps provided hot water from the cold tap and scalding water from the tap. And in the toilet the douche tap just fell off the wall. The final night the electricity failed four times, admittedly within a short period of time but enough to add to a feeling of unease.

The lobby and the pool and beach area is wonderful. The brakfast, menu and driks are extremely overpriced. The rooms need som paint and maintenance. The condition of the rooms makes my overall experience of the hotel a three star plus or four star minus. Very service minded staff. Professional and kind service manager. Great location! Outragious pre-charge of 3000 MAD at checkin for eventual room service etc, when the room was allteady payed in full. Still waiting for the amount (300 Euros) to be refunded to my account. NOT happy about this! In the neighbour hotel (just as nice rooms at lower rates and cheaper brakfast, etc, they did not pre charge. I have never been pre charged before, when the room is allready fullt payed.

Upon check in the staff were cold, not welcoming. I have a platinum membership but was not upgraded. When we arrived to the room we found that the bathrobes and the bed linens had not been changed. They were wrinkly and had hair on them!!! GROSSSSS. There were also bugs on the linen. We then called the reception to ask for a change of linen when the staff replied "I don't understand". Then a housekeeping staff came to our door, we asked her to change the linen in English and she also did not understand. I tried to tell her in French to change the linen please coz there is a bug, to which she asked "Pourqois?" very rudely and loudly. She then stormed out of our room, spoke to her colleagues in French about how ridiculous we are to ask her to change the bedsheets. We also heard her talk about our race as we are "Chinois". Yes we are Chinese but I understand French. She came back with some new sheets, threw our covers and pillows and slammed the sheets on our bed. Changed it and stormed out of our room. The bathroom was also dirty, the drains didn't work and water just kept clogging up the whole time. This absolutely unacceptable.

« Very enjoyable stay »

Essaouira is my favourite destination in Morocco and I have visited many times. This is the first occasion I chose to stay at Le Medina Essaouira. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the Medina and is situated along the main promenade overlooking the beach and ocean. It has a fabulous swimming pool, but also boasts its own private beach with lounge and sunbathing areas all serviced by the MBeach restaurant attached to the hotel. My room overlooked the pool and had a furnished balcony. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room although unfortunately no milk. However this is easily and cheaply bought from the small shops in the medina and there is a fridge in the room. Bottled water was replenished daily and there was a nightly turn down service. The staff were very accomodating and attentive. The reception area is well decorated. For Moroccan standards this is a 5* hotel but to my English eye I would rate it a good 4*. Some areas requiring updating and there is evidence of this taking place. However, this does not detract from an enjoyable stay. I felt the nightly rate was good value for the location and comfort. With some Riads in the Medina charging over £100 a night without having a swimming pool or ocean view, I think Le Medina Essaouira is very good value for money. I stayed for two nights and would definitely stay here again upon my next visit to Essaouira.

« Hotel needs renovation and staff need to pay more attention to guests »

The biggest issue during our stay was the problem with the clog in both bath tub, as well as in the sink! Also the toilet didn't work properly. Stuff wasn't particularly eager to solve these problems. Once they have forgotten to bring us towels, another time forgot the plunger right in the bathtub and ruined our towels in the room, after trying to fix the tub. It didn't work though. Also in both neighbour rooms the renovation was happening, people were painting and working, which is unacceptable, as we could smell paint and also there was noise. Overall we had nice time, but we wish that you could improve.
