Great central location, very polite and professional staff, beautifully decorated rooms and lobby, excellent breakfast. As my luggage delivery was delayed at the airport, the staff in the hotel helped me to resolve the issue and my luggage was already in my room as I came back in the hotel after attending the day one of the conference. Brilliant. Many thanks.

Really impressed with the friendliness and quality of staff we encountered. The bed was very comfortable, and the bedroom/bathroom clean. Thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts we had here. Though the lounge room relaxed and welcoming, we thought that it could be a bit more upmarket in decor.

« A major dissapointment »

Unfortunately, not what i was hoping my experience would be at this hotel. The room was small; felt confined. It had an intense and unpleasant musty smell, the bathroom was outdated and the air conditioning unit was barely functioning (it certainly failed to cool the room when the temperature was higher in the afternoon). Service was adequate; no objections there but was not extraordinary either. The only thing going for this hotel was the prime location.

« Completely disappointed on a five star hotel »

We are usual clients of Sofitel chain, In Argentina and in Uruguay. We love them we really feel like a five star hotel but when we got to Lyon the feeling was totally different. You would expect more. After driving more than 6 hours the First the guy who received us with our car and all the luggage’s that were more than 4 was ok. The guy at the Recepcion seemd un experienced with little English really hard to communicate, he walked us to our room to show the room and when we asked him about the air conditioning he told us it’s wasnt working because we already enter fall. That day the temperature was around 27 degrees. So we went to sleep and it was impossible with that temperature we felt sofocated. Next day we had to do check out, it was raining really heavy and we needed to leave to our next destination and they told us they couldn’t get our car because there was a marathon, which I think they already knew, and they didn’t tell us anything. In that case we wouldn’t take out the four luggage’s of our car or we would have find another solution. And even worse they wanted to charge me the 25€ for the parking. It was an awful situation that you don’t expect on your holiday even less from a five star hotel. I hope you can reward me, with a night in Argentina or something because I paid a lot of money for a totally different experience . Thanks

Our staying was overall satisfying, we enjoyed the spacious guest room, comfy bed, newly refurbished bathroom, fluffy bath towel and delicious breakfast. But the air conditioner was a bit noisy in our room. And the staff members in breakfast restaurant never asked us if we wanted coffee or tea!

Staff were professional and helpful. Very appreciative that both our request for a junior suite and a corner suite were accommodated - thank you again. Breakfasts - nice variety and very well prepared food. Dinner at L'Institut Restaurant was truly excellent. We would stay at this hotel again.

« Delivery of hot water a problem »

The hotel itself was what one would expect. However the hot water in the bathroom was just above tepid. We made this complaint on each of our three days and received the same answer, we will have our ngineer to look at it. Each time the water was slightly hotter initially, then went back to tepid. We were given the opportunity to change rooms. The complaint was made in the evening, and the hassle to change was too much. On paying our bill on the last morning, we were asked our opinion of the hotel. I once again mentioned the water problem, to be told that the engineer would sort it out. This was said with a smile. Not an apology. This upset me even more, and I asked if the manager was aware. She said that she would contact the manager. She rang a number which turned out to be the housekeepers number. Still no apology. I gave in and left, never finding out if the manager was informed and what he had to say. Perhaps you can let me know the situation. Regards Roy T.

Pleasantly surprised with this beautiful, clean hotel with very spacious and finely furnished rooms. The friendly and very helpful service was the cherry on top. Wnderful location - big tick all round! We will absolutely be coming back to stay next time we are in Lyon and be sure to recommend this hotel to our friends and family.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly, professional and efficient. The room was very comfortable, clean, well-equipped and surprisingly quiet with a good view over the city centre. Outstanding selection at breakfast. Would recommend without any hesitation.

I enjoyed my second stay at Hotel le Royal in Lyon recently. The staff is very professional and responsive to all needs. The rooms are very nice and the location is excellent for access to all of the sights of Lyon.

The service is uniformly outstanding. Serious, courteous, and professional at all times. Right on Place Bellecour, half a block away from the Metro system, two blocks from the main shopping streets. Every detail of the stay at this hotel is meticulously planned to seem effortless and welcoming.

Not great. We were given a very small room with a small bed for two people in arrival. We also had some problem with the credit card that no one seemed to know what to do. Eventually the manager was called and it was ok. We asked for a better and bigger room which we were given. But this room was very noisy and the aircon did t work well so we had to open the windows and the noise was too loud to sleep.

The hotel's location is very nice and common areas are beautiful. But the room are old and I think the toilets & bathrooms needs to be renovated to be in line with the general appearance of the hotel.

I stayed in 522. Room was reasonable. Was not pleased that windows did not close easily and fully. No proper china tea cups or plates. Shower hose was leaking.
