I know this is culturally how things work in France (I live in France as an expatriate so I am starting to understand more and more the idea of french levels of service compared to the States), I had a crisis trying to get my mother a taxi to the train station on the morning of 04/06/2019. I tried to explain to the woman who was working the front counter my situation at 7:45 for a train that would leave Part-Dieu at 8:30, and instead of trying to help find a solution after asking how she could help, she proceeded to lecture me on how i should have done it and what to do next time, then proceeded to go on her way with another customer who also needed a taxi, but was not in an urgent situation to try and make her train. This isn't service, its just a waste of my time to tell me what I should have done. I'm in a situation, need help, so don't offer help if you don't want to help

We enjoyed our stay in Lyon so much the first time, we brought our adult sons back to stay once again at the Hotel Carlton. Our room with a King was on the small side but nicely appointed. Our other room with twin beds was a really nice size. The breakfast is fantastic. The front desk staff is very helpful. The hotel is very centrally located!

Everything was excellent EXCEPT: the bed. It did not meet the quality of the rest of our experience at the hotel. The mattress seemed to be protected by something plastic which rendered it physically uncomfortable and too warm. Additionally, the bed squeaked on entering or exiting it. Otherwise, the staff everywhere were outstanding and contributed significantly to our family stay.

We had an excellent stay at the hotel.

We loved our 3rd floor room with its little balcony overlooking the square. Well appointed, with a large bathroom. Helpful staff . Rooms and public areas are nicely decorated with lots of character. Great location.

On arrival, difficult to park car, access hotel and unload luggage. First impression of room nice - twin aspect, fair size (not basic room) and great views over streets of Lyon. Actual experience of room: first night sheet far too small, did not fit mattress. Duvet cover stained both inside and out - replaced promptly day after complaint at reception. Poor room design. No dressing table / mirror for makeup or hair. Had to stand up in bathroom. Not acceptable at this price-point. Only one suitable chair to use with table - if had wanted room service one of us would have to have stood up or ate in bed! Reception, when told, said "we could have asked for a second chair". Again, not acceptable at 1000 euros for a 3-night stay! Decor rather poor for this price. Wallpaper poorly hung, paint chipped, overall impression 'dowdy' and dated. Some wall sockets did not work or bulbs blown (standard lamp). Triple glazing excellent, room nice and with windows closed. Super-comfortable bed. Bathroom badly designed / equipped. No handrails to get in and out of bath - verging on dangerous even when dry, especially when wet. Dead insects and dust piled up in clear perspex light covers in embedded ceiling lights. Hairs both in bathtub and glued to ceiling indicate poor cleanliness and housekeeping. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Especially at this price. Breakfast - self-service buffet ONLY: very poor value, massively overpriced. Good selection, heated options (sausage, bacon, fried bread) kept on hot plates and not cooked fresh. Almost cold and definitely inedible by 09:30am. Not acceptable when breakfast costs over 20 euros per person per day. Very tiny breakfast room for size and class of hotel: other guests were forced to collect their food and decamp to an adjoining overflow room. WHAT??? Bar: soulless and soul-destroying. Described on the website as a champagne bar, I would describe it as an abandoned and empty bar. No atmosphere. Badly hung and in appropriate pictures decorated a room with no view - no external windows made it feel like a basement dive. Lack of clients (we had a drink every night) made the atmosphere poor. If perhaps the drinks were cheaper, more guests might use it: we have definitely in my entire life never stayed in a hotel with such a disappointing and depopulated bar anywhere in the world!! (and we have worked all our lives all over the world) On the plus side, we cannot fault the staff. Every interaction and request was professionally handled, politely dealt with and left us happy with their response. This at least is something to salvage from our experience. Very confused by branding, and that is my job, my métier! Could not work out who we were dealing with at any point during the total journey from initial research through to booking on the Accor website and finally during our actual stay. Accor Hotels, MGallery, Sofitel, Carlton??? So confusing and not integrated. 0 out of 10 from me on marketing and brand image. Sorry.

The experience was very positive and I would recommend the hotel to others. The hotel is well appointed and maintained. Service was good. Breakfast was good. The hotel has the basics to offer a truly exceptional stay, but I think the management would have to guide the staff on how to go the 'extra mile' for guests. Personnel is friendly and helpful. But: - there's only 2 English tv channels [bbc and ccn] - the breakfast menu was already written on - there was no roomservice menu in the room despite it being referenced - other folders / flyers / notes also felt a bit used - just gave the feeling it wasn't "fresh" - the live music felt a bit cheesy, it didn't entice me to go to the bar All together it was fine, but for the price vs. other hotels I would expect more

We were celebrating double birthdays in our family, and were welcomed to the hotel with a gorgeous room, tasty gift and lovely happy birthday welcome letter. The desk was able to get us reservations for our first choice restaurants, during the times of our choice. All was smooth and efficient without feeling hovered over. We will be delighted to return for a longer stay.
