Great hotel. With a cockroach issue

I enjoyed the stay at the hotel. But one thing I have to complain about is that there were big cockroaches living in the lamp of the living room and they would come out at night. It was quite scary as I do not like cockroaches and don’t expect to see such big ones living and roaming the lights

Have stayed at this hotel on several occasions due its convenient location. However, our stay this time round was not good at all. We had to request for towels everyday, there was no soap and no body lotion. We had to go out of our room to connect to internet - a big disappointment!!! One evening at the reception, the language used to discuss a a guest account was not good at all. There was no diplomacy - it was not us but could be us one day

Restaurant staff sullen, unhelpful and unfriendly. Virtually have to serve yourself. Kitchen staff better, and food ok. Restaurant "manager" was extremely unhelpful to some foreign tourists. Room ok, but tacky. Only one hand towel provided, no bath towel. Staff noisy and shouting at each other outside of room.

As usual service at reception was very friendly and professional. Housekeeping better than previously. Rooms were made in time. There seems still to be a shortage of towels though the hotel wasn't full. The safe was closed which should have been signalled by housekeeping. There were no chairs on the balcony. Bathrooms are not equipped with a toilet brush which is very inconvenient. Wifi is weak

Mab Friends - 16/09/2019 AccorHotels review

We stayed only for 1 night at short notice. We booked a 2 bedroom suite as the price was about the same as for a 1 bedroom room. While we did not specifically request a non smoking room we noted on getting to the room that it was a non smoking room which we would have been pleased with. On walking in however cigarette smoke smell was clearly evident and subsequently on our clothes well after we left the accommodation. The room itself was very dated with several lights not working and gaffer tape on some of the electrical lighting wiring - clearly not acceptable. Aircon was in strange position and did little to cool the bedrooms and was very noisy. The only positives were the price of the room and its location to a shopping mall across the Road and is situated fairly close to the airport. I would not stay here again however.

Our stay was not so appealing there. The main door could not open, we struggled everytime we had to go in the apartment. water was not hot for us to refresh. hair dryer in the bathroom was not working and in the evening when we arrived I contacted the reception for extra blankets as we were getting cold. The guy who answered said he will send someone but he never did. I would never consider coming back there again after this experience. Thank you

The Hotel is a nice place to stay at. Reception staff are very pleasant. The bedrooms are large as are the living rooms and kitchen. Bed linen is nice, cosy and fresh. The location is excellent for the shopping centre. But room service really needs to improve. The first day there was no soap. The second day they took away the bathroom floor mat and hand towel. There was no box of tissues. The kitchen had 1 plate, 1 knife / fork / spoon which was bizarre! Tea and coffee / cremora is available with 2 cups/saucers which was lovely. But it would seem the kitchen is definitely there for show only and guests are not expected to use them at all. The DSTV was playing up so CNN was unavailable for 2 days during our stay - but that is fixable.

Mercure hotel remains my first choice for a family stay in Johannesburg. I suggest management takes advantage of the high patronage and occupancy rates to address the issues of aging infrastructure. For instance the place and especially interiors could do with a new coat of paint and change of bedding and sheets Staff are courteous and responsive to issues raised to the best of their abilities
