The quality of hygiene and cleanliness is horrible. Bath towels are grimy the irons are old and inoperative if request something as an example; glass, towels, knife etc, it takes over 4 hours to bring it.

« Convenient hotel »

The hotel is conveniently close to the airport and the Eastgate shopping complex. Breakfast was excellent and the living room, kitchen in addition to the bedroom was more than I bargained for. However, it could have been a 10 if the needful had been done for an early check in despite the fact that I had informed the hotel I was ready to pay the excess charge. It was more in the way in which the hotel staff informed me with a certain disdain that I should have known check in time was 14:00. After a night flying and having advised the hotel 1 week in advance of the early check in that I was reaching at 06:00, its the last kind of reaction you can expect. Nevertheless, once I had my room, I was fine.

Television was not switching on in my unit. When wanting to call reception i couldn't as there was no information on the phone of how to contact reception. I dialled 9 as most places its 9 but no one answered. I walked to reception technician came and switched it on only to realise after he left that after about 5 mins the tv switches the picture of and you can only hear sound. My family couldn't watch tv for the duration of our stay as i couldn't walk to reception again.The door to outdoor area locked and there was only a table outside without chairs. The shower was leaking hence we had to use bathtub. When i wanted to make breakfast in the morning was suprised that our unit didn't have any pot nor pan. The was only 1 cereal bowl yet its was a 4 sleeper unit. We opted for cereal and one person has to eat at a time and it was really bad experience for my children. I was really disappointed with your facility. It needs to be renovated more especially the bathroom. My stay was really not good.

« Some of hotel rooms need major repair. »

We stayed at room 711 for a week; we didn’t like it from day one because of the following reasons: 1-The water tub glass door which prevents the water from splashing to the floor was not closing. Showering was always followed by drying the floor by a floor towel. 2-The closet door of the main room doesn’t close. 3-The lock of the second room was broken. 4-The quality of towels provided for the guests is not the same as used to be some years back. Mercure has been our preferred hotel for more than 10 years now. We hope you can fix these minor problems in all rooms to maintain your reputation. Some areas need major rehabilitation rather than repair to preserve the good looking of the rooms. Eg. there are some rotten skirting woods on the living room which were filled by silicone and painted in white instead of being replaced.

« Door would not lock and bare electrical wires in bedroom »

Generaly the stay was good. I stop in a lot of IBIS and Mercure and am a Silver card holder. But The electronic door lock would not open properly and coud not be locked from the inside. This is a littel bit worrying in Johannesburg. In the bedroom one of the side lights was hanging loose from its fitting with live bare wires exposed. I reported this to a maid who said she informed house keeping but nothing happened. I reported it again when checking out - room 614. This could eb very dangerous if a child were to touch it. Otherwise the hotel was OK.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel as the compound was really safe and nice. The staff were very friendly and catering. However, room 815 where my sister and her friend were staying had a disgusting smell of stale cigarettes and should never have been offered up. It was completely unacceptable and had I known during the stay I would have requested a change of room for them. She politely did not mention it rather not to bring negative news as I treated the 3 other guests to the overnight stay.

It was satisfactory though the hotel had confusion over booking extension up to 16 00 hrs. Frankly speaking, the hotel is well placed and convenient for guests. More could be done by the new restaurant in terms of getting correct orders as provided by clients.

In general it was a great experience, with a few issues regarding room service and towel delivery, understandable due to Hotel being fully booked. Receptionists were generally pleasant and explained the situation, trying to provide a solution as quickly as possible. Everything else was perfect, as it has become a standard in my experiences with the Mercure Hotel.
