Neat rooms, adequate facilities but just an edge of cost cutting and skimping that shows in the little things that make a difference. For example:. Only 3coffee pods and 1 decaf. No tea or coffee mugs only paper cups. One glass only also only plastic. Why not just put cups and glasses in. It's a little more overhead but huge difference in the hotel experience. It's more like camping. The toilet paper is the worst in a long time, again it's like camping. Priveledge room had lots of space and excellent design with separate toilet. But the above things detracted a lot from the stay and were really noticeable. Decaf coffee in the morning out of a paper cup is not what you expect in a mercure hotel. Well now I do.

We were moved to another hotel as there was an electrical fault slim our allocated room. The taxi took almost 1 hour to arrive and was not told by the hotel that they would pay his fair. Also the hotel that we had been sent to told us we had to pay for our room they were quite blunt and didn’t seem to realise that your hotel had sent us. Your hotel didn’t tell us that we had to pay and that they would reimburse us for the night that we were unable to stay with you

A pleasant stay. The room was adequate. There was no safe. The internal phone didn’t work (sorted by the receptionist). Bedside reading light didn’t work (not reported till I left). We were told by one receptionist that the restaurant was not operating on a Sunday evening although fortunately we found out when discussing minor problems with another very helpful receptionist that it was! Minor irritations in an otherwise satisfactory stay.

Our room was great but cant get over no glasses (only plastic) perhaps being a wine area this needs consideration. Had breakfast on the first morning there as recommended by the reception staff. It took a while for scrambled eggs to be brought out and when they were the egg was not cooked and was absolutely cold. Also the bacon and sausages were cold. The hot water for tea was also cold. We have stayed in Dijon, Lyon Mercure and had a great experience in both these cities but were extremely disappointed in Bordeaux. So much so I did not book the Mercure for our next stops.

« Comfortable hotel in superb position - but management eye off the ball »

We spent three nights here Thursday to Monday. Our standard room was simply but comfortably furnished, and quite spacious, especially for a city-centre hotel, and very quiet. The room was very clean when we arrived, but maid service during our stay was very poor - surfaces not cleaned, beds poorly made, courtesy tray not properly replenished, etc.. The courtesy tray had a nice kettle, but is otherwise very meagre, not to say miserly, and only instant coffee and small cardboard cups. Breakfast is served buffet style on the top floor with magnificent views of the river and city. The buffet selection is extensive and of excellent quality (except the scrambled eggs, which were excellent on one morning but dry and overcooked on the other two mornings of our stay).. Sadly, cold plates provided for hot food. And on two of our mornings the service was overwhelmed - simply not enough tables or staff for a full hotel - unnecessary shortages and queues, people standing around waiting for space. Not good. The location of this hotel is fantastic. One minute walk from the riverside promenade, ten minutes from the city centre, tram stop nearby, and a number of local restaurants to choose from (we enjoyed Chez Dupont). There is ample parking in a public car park in the same building, but it is expensive (EUR19 per 24 hours). It would be good if Mercure could negotiate a deal with the management of the car park.

« Good sized rooms and close to river »

The hotel was clean although a little tired in places, in particular the corridors and in our room, the sitting area and cupboard. It was situated well for the river and tram. We like to walk so the fact it was outside the main city did not bother us. Was surprised to find paper cups in the room for hot drinks and no glasses, especially for a 4 star hotel. Did not appear very luxurious. Also disappointing that the only place to sit outside for any view was closed after breakfast. If we wanted to sit outside, which we did as weather good, we had to sit outside with all the smokers from the various conference and businesses and in the shade.
