I stay at various Novotel across Australia and New Zealand and am generally impressed or very impressed. Given it’s around 20 nights per year I guess odds are there is going to be one disappointment. This is the first stay in Canberra. The little things count and unfortunately a number of little things added up to a disappointment. The little things: -7th floor needed maintenance (primarily painting- looked like it hadn’t been finished) -Dreadful room service meal (and cold) (how do you get a cheeseburger and chips wrong?) -no one to greet at lunch -breakfast coffee order took 30 minutes - very slow internet- I reverted to my cell

Conveniently located above the bus station, this hotel was also well located for visiting the main sights. Some busy road works nearby which can’t be helped. Breakfast was super busy and sometimes more staff were needed to clear plates. Rooms were big and comfortable

When I checked in, I went to the priority line and was the. Ignored while 2 people who arrived after me were checked in. Not a problem But maybe don’t Have the carpet and priority check in service. Dirty plate from the last guest was still at our door when we checked in. Wasn’t cleared after delivering my kids room service either - surely if staff are a plate with food on it in the hall, they pick it up? Anyway, none of these really matter, but you sent the survey so i’m Telling you

The room comfortable however the service wasn’t very satisfactory. I had to call twice and waited about 20-30 mins for an extra pillow to be delivered to the room. We had 2 conditioner and no shampoo, the wait for dinner in the restaurant was long (was told after asking about our meal that there was a conference - should have been told this before we ordered). And the water of the spa was low in the pool area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The service was very good- the restaurant staff were exceptional. The rooms and facilities were of a high standard and well maintained. I especially enjoyed the sauna; we specifically chose the Novotel as it had a spa and it was worth it.

« I only spent 1 night so no major issue. However, I wanted to go to the gym after work as I had time, but it was really too small. »

Good welcome from the staff. The room is fine. Breakfast was OK. But gym is really too small and does not have enough equipment. There were only 4 people in the gym when I when to check it, but it looked packed.

There was confusion at check in and at breakfast if we had breakfast included. i had called the hotel before I booked online to confirm that I was booking breakfast. The bathroom is very tired and there is a constant running and dripping of water sound.

Bed bugs in my room, I felt your manager seen this/myself as a nuisance. Asked if I wanted to move rooms, obviously I did. Took a long time for this to get sorted. Moved me into an “executive room” which was slightly bigger but now with no balcony. That was the end of it. No offer to have my affected clothes cleaned. This process took an hour of my time because of the poor management of the situation.

Possibly have more than 2 checkin/checkout counters during busy periods. Staff appeared to be under stress while serving guests which resulted in staff speaking in a manner which could be construed rude and impolite. One such instance was during breakfast on 04/10/18 at 7:15am when a staff behind the coffee station was rushing around serving everyone but in doing so was speaking to a non-English speaker in a way that was construed condescending. Even I received a brunt of her stress which was duly pointed out to her. Her response was that "it has been a busy day". The day had just started! No apology was extended to either myself or the non-English speaker.

On the 9th of October 2018 I stayed with the Novotel Canberra for the first time. Can I just say that everything from the initial contact to enquire about a booking thru to check out was absolutely top notch, exceeding all of my expectations. I would especially like to point out to you the fantastic customer service of Sam Rao and Jennifer Walker; they along with the rest of the staff have made me decide on the Novotel being my home away from home when in Canberra.
