Staff very friendly and helpful. Yad the Food and Beverage supervisor was outstanding. Thought the wash basin outside the bathroom odd. You want to be able to wash your hands, do teeth in private etc having to go into the bedroom area was off putting Disappointed by the meal we had at the restaurant the menu was limited which is normally a good sign of a top restaurant. The signature dish of duck ragu, shown both as an appetiser and as a main, was disappointing, noodles were starchy and the sauce bland with the duck pieces either tough or the skin which should have been crunchy. The tandoori chicken had no flavour, to bill it as a tandoori was grossly misleading. We were asked our views of the meal and made the above comments. The F&B Manager, Yad was very customer focused as he listened to our comments. Loved the pool, spa and sauna, all very well maintained. Hotel is very well located.

There was construction outside and I stayed for the purposes of attending a conference held at the hotel but there were no business facilities to use for my purpose and the computers on offer were useless. The hallways are dark and the room was unexciting. The staff are lovely, however.

« Good service and location but rooms a little tired »

Easy check-in with loyalty envelope ready and waiting. A drink and nibbles waiting in the room was a nice touch but bottles of room temperature beer was an interesting choice. Accommodating room service staff who catered to my off menu request. However, the rooms and interiors are getting pretty tired - stained carpets and tired furnishings and furniture.

Good stay in great location. Staff do a great job - friendly/helpful/professional. Enjoyed breakfast touches (spices in fruits) though I did have summer breakfast deal for $2 per person - otherwise unlikely pay full price. I opted for earlier check in 12pm and paid requested fee $20 but don't believe 12pm check in should attract fee at that time if rooms are available and I'm member. Quality of facilities for those staying in standard room (level 3) was adequate. Rooms were certainly clean though hall carpets worn with stains are certainly nothing special/windows could be cleaner. Bathplug didn't fit though this was resolved promptly by housekeeping.

« Tired hotel, shocking service »

Check in and check out was excellent with Sophie at Reception. Nice lunch in the restarant. But the whole hotel ran out of ice at 9.30pm. My wife had s pain in her arm and I went to the bar for somebube at 9.15am for a few ice cubes. They had ran out (!) but said they would find some and send to my room. Nothing happened for two hours. I phoned Reception and they said the ice maker was broken so they could not help. (If they had said earlier, I could have gone to a convenience store or garage). To their credit, a Night Manager came at half past midnight with some ice he had hacked off the freezer wall, so full marks girbintiative but the four make bar staff were shocking in failing to follow upbtheir promise. I was in the fifth floor and the corridor carpet desperately needs a clean. Just s very tired hotel with unmotivated staff

I had an excellent stay at the Novotel in Canberra. At the last minute I decided to have a mini break and booked a trip to Canberra and decided to stay at the Novotel as it is right in the centre of town.

« We were warned »

We were warned the hotel need a makeover, we just didn't realise how much. Shabby, that maybe a little strong, a bathroom so small they could not include a washbasin and the balcony????? So uninviting I just closed the curtains. Then there is the parking, no legal area outside to unload and $20 underneath. Its one saving grace is proximity to the CBD. So, if you wish to be close to Canberra's CBD, don't mind an overpriced 3 star hotel, then it certainly fits the bill.

The room was very outdated and had a very poor layout. There was no sink in the bathroom and the sink outside was positioned badly. The carpet in the room and the hotel hallways were not clean.

The staff at breakfast were really helpful & friendly. That made your day start off really great. The room wasn't very nice. Having the sink outside the bathroom where you made your coffee was uncomfortable. There wasn't no microwave so that made it abit hard. The staff down in the carpark was very helpful. That was our second time we were there the first time the room was amazing. The check in & out is a quick & great idea.

« Room ok, dining service the worst ever experienced at an Accor Hotel in 30 years of travelling around the world »

The hotel was easy to find, close to what we needed. The parking spots were very tight so lucky we had a small car to manoeuvre out of the car parking spot which the valet had parked our car in on arriving. If you have a problem, the valet will drive your car out for you which we recommend as we had an issue. The hotel was clean, room fine and bed comfortable. It was our wedding anniversary and we had a big day of travelling from our home on the South Coast to Canberra for a special weekend. We decided after a walk to the museum and around the Lake to have our anniversary dinner at the hotel restaurant as the weather had turned nasty with heavy rain outside. We entered the restaurant at around 7pm and a table was found for us. We ordered our meal and while we waited a mother and her son with disabilities was sitting next to us. The mother was talking to the waiters regarding her sons meal as it was an incorrect order. It was returned to the kitchen and when delivered back to her adult son it had just been changed not refreshed. She was upset and expressed her dissatisfaction, but was ignored, she left with her son very unhappy. Then on the other side of us was a young Asian couple who did not speak any english, they were trying to communicate what they wanted and had no luck reading the menu. They started to use their mobile phone for translating and we tried to get the waitress to assist them. She stated that she will not serve them while they are using their mobile as she finds that rude, we found her unhelpful, being Aussies we were embarrassed by her behaviour. Then we started to realise that everyone that had arrived after us had been served their meals while we were still waiting. We had received our free accor members drinks and were onto our 3rd with no food. The time was getting late and finally after we enquired about our meal they went and checked, then apologised and said our order had got lost in the system. We got a free drink while we waited. As time ticked on to over 20mins (our order was chicken), and the time was 8.45pm, we decided to leave as there was only one other couple left in the restaurant and they were ready to go. As we approached the bar to leave very tired and hungry all the staff were there laughing and chatting to a couple of bar customers, we stood for some time before they finally spoke to us. We have never complained in all the many Accor hotels we have stayed in around the world or have never got so upset as we were absolutely horrified at the way we had been treated, also the mother next to us and the young Asian couple so we let the staff know. The head waiter was very dismissive, and offered that we take our dinner to our room as it had finally arrived. It was far too late to eat and he offered breakfast free. We refused, the staff's attitude left us not wanting to be in the restaurant ever again. They did not charge us for the drinks but that was not the point, it was a wedding anniversary we will not forget in a hurry. Once again we cannot express how disappointing it is to see this lack of respect and poor customer service. In the morning when we left the hotel we were not asked if our stay was enjoyable as this has always been a standard question from reception staff on departure. When we mentioned our poor experience the receptionist just looked at us and stated that she was aware and it had been noted!! Having a Accor Gold and Silver Card is a waste of money if you cannot try and provide constructive feedback. Our long history with Accor should show that this is the very first complaint that we have ever made and we feel strongly that it fell on deaf ears. We would strongly recommend to think twice about staying at this hotel as there are many other beautiful places to stay in Canberra. We are a professional couple who do a large amount of travel for our work and also for pleasure and our ranking of this experience is the lowest ever. We have not had any formal apology from the hotel, but we sure have had the opportunity to let others know of our own experience and I am sure the couple either side of us will share their negative experience as well.

People at the front desk were friendly, car valet service was unreliable, floor area around the enterance to room was very dusty and didn’t get cleaned during our stay, shower was over the bath but there were no rails to assist disabled or senior people to climb into the bath for their shower.

« Overpriced for what you got . »

Parking was terrible and was not advised there was a parking fee when I booked . Although in a central location , was pretty noisy . Bed was comfy , but no additional movie options was disappointing. Breakfast was average at best in bistro , although room service breakfast was nice

Lovely. From the very affordable upgrade and early check-in to the wonderful toiletry products and bathtub! I love the hottub as well — although I was disappointed when I went there in the morning and it was closed.
