Didnt set the world alight. Sticky floor in all three rooms our family booked. Decor a bit shabby too with laundry carts parked in the lift lobby. Pleasant and welcomimg staff

Average, double beds being made up of two single beds which does not work well especially when they move around on the floor when sleeping in it. Also, the mattresses are not very comfortable at all and I would definitely pay a little extra to get a better quality sleep. Also, Air Con was not very effective either in the heat.

« Lovely staff - but let down by maintenance issues. »

Check in was very easy, staff we met were lovely, polite and helpful. The room however was not up to Ibis standard. It was clean (although we found an unused condom at the back of the towel shelf in bathroom) but the wall on the bed side was spattered with some dried substance which could have been blood? Whatever it was it should have been cleaned off or painted over. Sections of the skirting board were missing and one light bulb around the mirror in bathroom was not working. In addition one lift clearly needs attention, makes a grinding noise when door opens and during our stay (which was 14th July not 12th) one lift was out of service for a time - the same lift that was out of order when we stayed earlier in the year. There was no recognition that we were Accor members. We didn't report the room problems at the time as we were there one night and had to leave in a rush to catch a train. We realised anyway that reception could not have dealt with the sort of maintenance issues we had identified and that anyway you would be sending us a questionnaire.

I've stayed in lots of Ibis hotels both here and in Germany, and one thing I will never understand is how the same company has such brilliant, clean and modern hotels in Germany, yet so poor in the UK and unfortunately Ibis Stevenage is no different. The location is very good, just a few minutes walk from the station and check in staff were friendly and helpful, but unfortunately those are the only positive things I have to say about this hotel. I chose the hotel due to the proximity to the station as I was attending a festival at Hatfield, just 15mins away on the train. Upon check in I was quickly checked in, but on getting to my room I found out the air con wasn't working, which in the middle of this heatwave is simply unacceptable – there wasn't even a fan! I was then offered a second room, albeit a twin rather than the double I had booked. This did have working aircon, the unit wasn't the quietest but this was much preferable to sleeping in heat! I was also offered complimentary breakfast which was a nice gesture, but an offer I was unable to take up so I can't comment on the breakfast. My room, and the hotel in general, with the exception of the reception area, appeared very dated and in desperate need of refurbishment, even just basic DIY and maintenance would be an improvement. The room appeared fairly clean on the surface, but on further inspection there are stains and marks on the walls and some corners looking like they haven't seen a duster for years. There really is no excuses when you are charging £60 a night. I have stayed in better standard for less and the very least I expect is cleanliness and comfort. The beds were clean and comfortable, the room was quite spacious compared to a lot of Ibis hotels yet in the bathroom the toilet was squeezed between the shower and wall making it difficult for those with a larger frame. The chair at the desk provided in the room was hard and uncomfortable if used for any significant amount of time. The second room I was given was on the second floor, directly above where they were holding a function, the music was very loud and while this wasn't an issue to me as I had headphones, it may concern some people so be aware of this if you're given a first floor room and are staying over the weekend. I must say also that the music was over well before midnight. The hotel is right next to a Tesco Extra which is useful and is right in the centre of the main shopping area. I don't think I will be staying here again unless vast improvements are made. Ibis only need to look at their German counterparts to see how it should be done.

As it was a hot day the air conditioning does not work to its full strength so the room was still very warm so my sleep was not very pleasant as for my wife she found the lighting not very great when doing hair and make-up compared to other hotels that we have stayed in leading up to the weekend I find the price was going up or down eventually when we booked it it was £10 more than the day before

« Okay stay, hotel could be improved »

We stay at the Ibis hotel in Stevenage from time to time only for convenience, as it is handy for travelling to London on the train. The hotel over the years is getting very jaded and could do with a complete refurbishment. We did have a problem with noise by other guests during the night and when we commented to the receptionist on our departure, she was very apologetic. She said if we had contacted reception at the time then the person or persons making the noise would have been given a warning or told to leave. As we didn't know that was the hotel's policy at the time nothing was done, but in future if we stayed again then we would be glad of that information.
