« Terrific Hotel »

This might be the greatest hotel I've ever stayed in. Sofitel properties, in general, are excellent and I've stayed in numerous Sofitels. Amsterdam, however, is that much better. Excellent staff, butlers available is so desired and the food is very good. Very comfortable bed. My only slight against this property is it's on the border of the red light district and the smell of pot is pretty obvious when you hit the street. Love this place and will return.

We stayed here as a surprise for my boyfriend’s 35th birthday and the hotel went out of their way to help me put balloons, champagne, rose petals, and a birthday cake in the room. It was absolutely stunning, and we got a free upgrade!!! Would highly recommend.

The hotel is beautiful and historic. What sets it apart in Amsterdam is the caring and professional staff at the hotel. From arrival to departure 9 days later, the hotel staff was helpful, courteous and provided an experience that we won't forget. I was especially impressed with the room availability upon arrival for early check in. It wasn't expected, but after traveling all night it was a nice touch to allow U. to freshen up before beginning our exploration of the City.

We had an amazing stay, and would gladly return. The service was exceptional at every point, from reception to the spa. My wife was newly pregnant and therefore quite nauseous for most of our trip, but the special care we received here made the experience relaxing and enjoyable despite that.

The staff and accommodations were excellent. We dined twice at the hotel in the evening and the food and presentations were remarkable. we enjoyed 3 night in your hotel, beautiful place in great location and most staff were friendly but some bar staff and reception staff had a very alloof attitude which was not appreciated. We stayed for my 50th birthday and My wife wrote to hotel in advance to see if there was anything special they caould do (room upgrade etc). We were told when we arrived that we would not able to upgrade room even though I overheard another guest being given a luxury upgrade at exactly the same time as we were checking in. My wife asked again later in the day but was told by the same man that we had been given a room overlooking the canal which was what she had already booked. We were promised a truly "VIP experience for my birthday (which was on July 29th, our 3rd day at the hotel) yet we received absolutely nothing, no spa, no treatments, not a thing. I received a call on Sunday evening to say that a cake was waiting for me (they could deliver to room because we left the DND sign on door by mistake), but that was all. We didnt decide to come to your hotel looking for free upgrades, it was the most expensive hotel in the city and as a 50th experience and having already written to the hotel beforehand, I would have hoped that something a little more personal and memorable than a cake would have been prepared. A lovely hotel in beautiful city with mostly warm and helpful staff but was not quite the experience we were hoping for now felt that we had paid for. More information should be given about local taxes payable on departure too, this was the biggest surprise of the weekend.
