I stay most of the time at Novotel when I'm in Zurich on a business trip. The rooms are moderns and well-furnished. I also like the breakfast in the morning and this for a very good value.

I stayed at your property twice in December (21st & 27th) and both times my experience was quite poor. On both occasions the room was not set-up as per the booking - a baby cot was booked and was never set-up until calling the front desk - on both occasions the front desk ensured the room was set-up when it was not. On the 21st the sliding door in the room was broken, and on the 27th, the lights in the bathroom did not work properly - both situations should have been reported by staff and fixed before our arrival. I will not be staying at your property again, nor will I be recommending it to anyone. Your lack of basic hotel management and guest hospitality needs to be addressed.

« A good Hotel - but with some improvement needed! »

The Good: 1: No Noise: There was nearly no noise in the room at all. 2: Breakfast: It is good – except for the rock-hard boiled eggs with dark yokes. The pancake machine was great when it was not broken – almost as good as the waffle machine at the classic Ibis Hotel next door. One thing for Novotel Zurich to improve is to copy the classic Ibis Hotel next door and make an eggboiler available to the guests so that the guests can decide the minutes for their boiled eggs themselves (I like 6 minutes to get that creamy yolk). 3: Kid’s Gift: At check-in my boy was given a gift – earphones – which is a smart gift – much better than sweets. 4: Shower: Excellent huge shower head. 5: Window: You can open it for fresh air. 6: The price was good at CHF144/night including breakfasts. The Not so good: 1: Deposit: You are required to leave a deposit when checking in – card or cash. Mine was CHF250 for a 6 night stay. This was required even if I had prepaid everything including the breakfasts, and my minibar only contained 2 bottles of water. At other Novotels (like in Venice-Mestre) I have so far never been asked to leave a deposit, nor at the Ibis and Ibis Styles Hotels. 2: Sockets: In the room there were lots of sockets - but they were all of a really thin (“bathroom-shaver looking style”) variety with three round type pin holes. With me I had three different “world adapters” of which only ONE would fit these sockets. 3: Carpet: This is the biggest minus at this Novotel – the rooms are carpeted – which is not higienic. Carpets (especially dirty ones) usually clog my nose up which disturbs my sleep and this was also the case at this Novotel. Having said that – sleeping with the window open does help quite a bit. The classic Ibis Hotel next door is not carpeted. 4: Dinner at the Novotel restaurant: At check-in the receptionist informed me that the chef at the Novotel restaurant is pretty good (ziemlich gut) – not excellent – but pretty good. So we decided to try it out for dinner one night – since we also had one free welcome drink each. The vietnamese waitress was great and so were the drinks – but the food was honestly truly really bad – the worst meal I have had in a long time – and it was not cheap either. We did eat what was served because we were so hungry at the time. We did not get sick – but the flavours were terrible – a 1 out of 10 points: Awful mashed potatoes, a sauce with an agressively acidic flavour which damaged the flavour of the veal. The price was also high at over CHF40 for the main course, and on top of that the food was not filling at all so after the main course we finished two bread baskets so as not to leave the restaurant hungry. We did not have dessert because the options available did not sound appealing at all. We would have wanted something like ice cream, chocolate cake, crepes, sorbets, chocolate, brownies, fruit, pancakes or waffles – but nothing of the sort was available for purchase. Several times we also tried the Ibis restaurant next door and it was both excellent and had low prices – easily 9 points out of 10. At the Ibis we loved the sallads, the soups and the ice creams, and even the meatballs, pizza and hamburgers and fries were all both excellent and plentiful – and the Thai waitress was great too.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 children had a pleasant stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the hotel is very conveniently situated. The hotel is modern and clean with good lifts. The breakfast was the best we've had. Our only struggle was that the room was over heated and we had no way of turning the temperature down and staff could not assist either after repeated requests. The heat made sleeping very difficult and we could not wait to get out of the room each day. We live in South Africa and are used to heat but this was very hot and uncomfortable.

Great hotel, a little outside of the city centre but very close to good transport links. The restaurant staff were overworked - more staff needed to cover busy shifts! Swimming pool was cold - this could do with heating up! Shower in men's changing room was broken and no soap left in container. Apart from that, a good hotel with friendly staff!

The stay in the hotel was just ok. It has a very good connection with the town center as the tram stop is just 300 meters away and 14 minutes to reach the town. Nothing special but a nice option for a hotel if you want to visit Zurich for a short stay. It is value for money.

Overall the rooms were standard, as expected, the beds and pillows comfortable, good choice of breakfast. However the downside was extremely crowded at breakfast where there was no place to seat and had to carry the food from breakfast buffet to bar area, which is extremely inconvenient with 2 kids.

Overall we had a pleasant stay at Novotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. As we stayed for 3 nights including breakfast, we found the same breakfast on the third day and we were little bored with the items .. if it all we can suggest then we would say it would be good to change some main breakfast items everyday or once in two days otherwise it will be boring for somebody who is staying longer than 2 nights at Novotel hotel . All hotel Staffs were excellent and we were pleased with their customer service !

We were offered very nice rooms for our family. Thanks to Novotel Zurich City West!! The hotel is just next to the city train station, walk less than 5 minutes. Our rooms were arranged on the 1st floor that we didn't even need to wait for the elevator.

The first impression was really bad. I had some problems with the girls on reception desk - Tawi and Lirija which pressed me to pay a deposit of 150 EUR because of our stay in the hotel as a rule of the hotel. Something which was not mentioned at all in my reservation through booking.com, I didn't see it as an information shared in the booking.com website. And no matter i had some correspondence before my accommodation in the hotel, this fact was not mentioned at all. Except this fact, the stay was pleasant and me and my family were satisfied with the stay, the breakfast and dinner in the hotel and the pool.

The authorization of 150 CHF is only a guarantee for us. So you have the possibility to book any extras directly on your room, which includes for example the hotel bar, the restaurant, the telephone, the garage and so on. Please understand that we need it for the variety of services. You should not see this in person. The sum is released automatically after departure. This has nothing to do with booking.com. We only make sure that no open posts remain open, this is a common procedure in hotels, especially hotels in major cities. If something is unclear or you are dissatisfied please ask in the future for a supervisor. It is a pity if bad conscience arises unnecessarily. We hope to welcome you one day back in our hotel.
