Best midtown hotel I've stayed in - excellent breakfast and lovely bar

I have stayed in a number of hotels around Manhattan with work in the past decade of so: and this was my favourite by far. Good modern facilities oozing with character, soundproof rooms, excellent breakfast and friendly bar with attentive and passionate bar staff. Only constructive criticisms would be: * The matted gym floor space is too small (2 people using it basically blocks out all the dumbells and nearby equipment) * It was challenging to pay for drinks at the bar - they expected all drinks bills to go on the room (which when you are on a work trip with excessively overbearing expense policies is a no go) - being able to easily tap to pay for drinks there would have made me use it more.

Having stayed at various Sofitel properties across Europe, my expectations for Sofitel New York were understandably high, anticipating the quintessential French elegance and impeccable service synonymous with the brand. Unfortunately, my experience fell short of these expectations. Upon arrival, the difference was stark. The charm and sophistication I had come to associate with Sofitel were conspicuously absent. The lobby, while grand, lacked the inviting French ambiance, failing to transport me to the luxurious European setting I had anticipated. The room was a further letdown. Instead of the modern, chic interiors I was accustomed to, I found myself in a space that felt outdated and worn. The lack of a minibar was surprising, removing the convenience and touch of luxury I had enjoyed in other properties. More concerning was the room’s odor, a persistent smell that suggested a lack of freshness and attention to detail in maintenance. Service, a cornerstone of the Sofitel experience, was underwhelming. The staff, while not unpleasant, did not exhibit the proactive, attentive service ethos that defines the brand. The absence of personalized care and the French touch was palpable, leaving me feeling more like a transient guest than a valued patron. In conclusion, Sofitel New York does not live up to the standards set by its European counterparts. The essence of French hospitality, which should be the hallmark of the Sofitel brand, was notably missing. The hotel’s offerings felt more akin to a standard city hotel rather than a member of a renowned international luxury chain. I hope this feedback is constructive, leading to enhancements that align Sofitel New York more closely with the brand’s distinguished reputation.

Lovely Hotel

The hotel was conveniently located and quite lovely. The room was a good size for a NYC hotel and the staff was very nice. Unfortunately, the room was terribly dry. I woke up at 4am very stuffy with chapped lips. I also attempted to shower at 6:45am but had no hot water. If I were to stay there again, I would definitely bring a humidifier!
