« Excellent customer servie but no hot water. »

I stay at this Ibis approximately monthly and this is the first time there has been a major issue - no hot water in the morning. On the one hand this is a significant nuisance, but it did give the staff a chance to show excellent customer service - they refunded my night's charge without being asked. I would have been happy with a partial refund (and actually said so) but the refund was for the full amount. The key factor here is that I mentioned the water and the lady on reception volunteered the refund unprompted - and to me that is excellent customer service.

There was no hot water, hotel offered us alternative Ibis for extra cost without breakfast. We declined so stayed with no hot water. In room electrical socket in bad shape (burnt). Bath had repairs and rust round plughole. Towels very abrasive. Very limited staff, so much so we didn't get our cooked breakfast which we had paid for. Had to make do with a slice of toast (which we did ourselves). Also member of cleaning staff (early morning) knocked on our room door and attempted to walk straight in, she did not wait for us to answer. Thank goodness we had put the lock on the door. Cleaner wanted to know when we were checking out. We were dressing at the time. Also while we were eating our toast in the dining area the cleaner was hoovering around us. The only nice thing was the bedding and bed were clean. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

« The service at Ibis Coventry South continues to slip downwards »

We arrived to check-in at 11.10pm to be told that there was no hot water and that arrangements had been made for us, instead, to stay at Ibis Coventry City Centre. We felt it was too much trouble to start changing plans at that time of night so had to live without hot water. We accept that problems arise, but when we reserved the room you requested our email address and mobile number. So you had two means of contacting us concerning the no hot water and need to change hotels but you didn't bother. If we'd known earlier in the day we could have fitted in with your suggestion. Also, there was pretty gross staining on the bedroom carpet. The experience of staying at this hotel has been falling in the last 12 months or so, and we have been staying here for nearly 15 years.

« Room was ok but there was no hot water »

When I tried to book in the computers were down and I could not check in, ands whilst waiting they had 2 power cuts. Fortunately I was visiting relatives and returned to the ibis later and got checked in ok. The room was ok but was cold and ther was no heating and in the morning there was still no heating and on reflection the power cuts had probably altered the time clocks. In the morning when trying to get a shower there was no hot water. On visiting reception we found that there was no hot water across the site. We later heard that there had been problems with the hot water throughout the week. I have raised these problems with customer services and expect a full refund.

« Disappointing start but improved »

Arrived to find couldn't get into the room. Tried 4 different key cards across two different rooms. The receptionist couldn't get them to programme. Eventually he called his manager who had to come from Leicester to reboot the keycard server. In the mean time we went out for a pizza takeaway to kill time. Took over 45 mins to get into the room from when I first arrived. Receptionist was very pleasant throughout and we were given a couple of free drinks to compensate for our bother. Fortunately we didn't have a fixed appointment to go to or it would have been very different level of stress from our side!

No problems, however the toilet flush was constantly running water. I checked and found a flannel had being wrapped around it to reduce the pressure. It was late on arriving. The next day I was out all day. On return I noticed the room had being cleaned, but the flush was still running. I reported the issue on checking out. I was informed I should have reported it. I thought it was a obvious issue that needed addressing! Obvious that it was not a new maintenance issue and obvious to any staff who entered the room. Otherwise the stay was fine.

Room was very clean and tidy. Reception was Ok but rather slow when ordering a meal, I was the only one there. I had to approach reception for sweet. the staff were ok but I did not feel welcome overall as I had in the past.the french guy who knew me from before was very friendly.

« Old room and low standards »

The room was old looking and definitely not modern. The TV turned on by pressing the channel button NOT the power button. This again shows how low the standards were. The TV should be fixed. I had to enquire at reception how to turn on the TV. It didn't appear that my cup and tea spoon were not replaced after my first night even though I left a note. Also when I arrived the manager at reception said that my payment (made almost 2 months ago) had not been received. In the end this problem seemed to have been resolved. Saying all that, the shower was good and the bathroom and room were clean. The heater worked well and provided good heating. The room just wasn't modern/new enough for my liking.

The Coventry site is dated and requires a lot of investment. The rooms, we moved initially, smell of dogs and the overall standard of decor is something from the 70's. Whilst the staff are pleasant and helpful the overall impression is one of a tired and dilapidated hotel. Not worthy of a second visit!

« Disappointing »

Pros: Staff/location Cons: Only one towel - medium size No floor mat in bathroom - slipping hazard Only one spare pillow No air conditioning or fan in room Only one member of staff to cook/serve/clear in dining area and also man the front desk. He done his very best but needed help.
