« Disappointing »

I've stayed here several times but the whole stay was a general disappointment this time. Upon check in I was told my online payment hadn't gone through, i didn't have enough on card so had to pay with cash. This meant I also had to leave a £50 cash deposit which no one was able to provide me a receipt for. I feel I should of been notified of this prior too arrival and if I'm handing over money I expect proof to be given of this. They then told me I had an early check in not late check out, which was incorrect and didn't make sense as I was arriving at 6pm. Why would I pay for an early check in and arrive at 6pm? I also stated on my online check in form this would be the time I was arriving, and I didn't receive a text to say my room was ready until 14:40 which is not early check in time. Whilst all this was happening 2 other customers waiting to check in were offered a glass of wine for the wait. Why were they offered a glass of wine while all I received is attitude for the problems on my check in which were not my fault. I also had to ask for my deposit back on check out so there was clearly no record of this on my room. After I showed my email to state late checkout I asked them to make sure no one knocked on my door at 12 to kick me out, as this is the only reoccurring problem I've had at this hotel. Then at 11:45am there was knocks on my window to try kick me out and at 12pm the house keeping tried to enter my room. Not what I want whilst I'm sleeping and especially as I had asked them to make sure this didn't happen on arrival. The only request I had made on my stay was for a groundfloor room, not having this wouldn't of bothered me if it wasn't for all the other problems that occurred. I understand requests can't always be met but felt this was the least they could do. All in all I was very disappointed with the service during my stay. The quality and cleanliness of my room was as good as normal but it's the service that let it down. I will not be returning to this hotel if I can help it, which is a shame as this was my favourite ibis in the area.

« 1 far to high »

This hotel was so old and bad we ended up not staying, spoiling what should have been a lovely weekend away in Birmingham. The room smelt of mold and damp. The carpet was very thin with age, and dirty. The bath had been painted at some time, but had now all peeled off the bottom. The cushion on the bench was covered in stains. Etc etc. But credit where credit is due, the bed looked very clean.

« Clean, comfortable but noisy »

Staff were very welcoming, the room was clean & comfortable. The decor was adequate & needs refreshing. However, the one thing that let this hotel down was the early morning deliveries. Delivering to a hotel is necessary but, at 6.00am, please.

« Great staff but old, dated and not clean »

Staff were all great and helpful and a good location. Room was warm but very, very basic. Whilst initially looking clean there was mould in the bathroom. Breakfast was very basic with a lack of variety which was very different to what was advertised. Overall would rather pay more for somewhere nicer.

« dated »

it was like an old 1970 american motel, a sticky / stained carpet, marks all over the walls, a shower you had to run around in, to get wet etc etc etc ........ the list would be quite endless.

« Value for money, good location »

It's a value for money hotel and situated near my Head Office. Staff very pleasant. Just wish you were able to "book"extras to your room and settle at check out.

« Grubby room »

Grubby carpets, mould ingress on bathroom ceiling, rusty bath shower rail pole, stained bathtub and chipped edge. Just really old and tired accommodation not in keeping with either the Ibis standard or comparable accommodation. Very poor positioning of electrical sockets for charging electrical equipment.

« Great Location For A Overnight Stop »

If you are in Birmingham for a night out , then this is ideally situated. It is around a 10 minute walk from New Street Railway Station & round the Corner from the O2 Academy . Staff very friendly , Room comfortable & warm & lovely breakfast in the morning

« Disappointed »

I booked and paid for my room online and checked in prior to our arrival. The two staff on the reception made things very difficult for us when we arrived. They told me I hadn't paid, even though I had an email confirming my payment online. We were then messed around trying to pay the parking charge, because the system was not working properly. I was asked to forward a copy of my payment details to your email address. The room we were allocated was horrible, small, dark and with no proper bathroom. To cap it off, the toilet dripped so loudly, we would not have been able to sleep. We then went back to the reception, where the gentleman sighed and made it clear we were unwelcome after we asked for another room.

« Ibis having a laugh »

Staff great. Location great for O2 but not for town. Rooms from the 70s and not decorated since then. Carpets stained everywhere. Curtains stained and with holes. Bed sheets clean, bed utterly rubbish. Shower - decided to wait till we got home. If this was branded a budget Ibis then maybe I could forgive. But it's not. It's a full price but totally grim hole of a room. Having reviewed trip advisor after the event it's clear Ibis already know this - but don't care. Would I stay there again. No. Will I use Ibis again.. Not likely.

« Served its purpose »

The hotel served its purpose, the carpet in the room is very tired and stained in places, I also mentioned to the receptionist that in the bathroom there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke which continued into the room. Unfortunately it was late and night and nothing could be done. I dont believe the vent was working or someone had been smoking in another room and was coming through the vent. Either way not pleasant

« Reasonably comfortable but with a couple of snags »

Having checked in on-line (to save time), I was advised on arrival that there was a problem with the system so it took over 10 minutes. I was asked whether I had a confirmation of my on-line check-in which seemed counter to checking in on-line. The room was fine apart from the shower curtain which smelt terrible - hadn't been washed for ages I'd guess, nor changed. At breakfast the following day I had to wait 25 minutes for vegetarian sausages when there were only three other people in the restaurant. The receptionist tried to recover the situation by offering me a voucher for a free drink from the bar but, given that I was only to be there for another 30 minutes, it was a futile gesture.

« Room basic but comfortable, disappointing breakfast. »

Room was fine, basic and dated but bed was comfortable and it was warm enough and adequate for one night. The breakfast was disappointing appeared to be too few staff and there was only a small amount of leftover food out which soon disappeared, leaving people waiting for something to eat. It was a rather awkward experience as more people kept arriving but no food. The cold items also ran out there was no juice or milk for cereal and tea and the team working the kitchen didn't seem to notice people waiting. We arrived for breakfast around 10:30 on a sunday and were expecting to be able to have a good meal. We didn't complain to the staff at the time as they seemed a bit unprepared and it didn't feel fair to add to the situation. If anything we wanted to get in the kitchen and start cooking ourselves for everyone! Not what we expected from an Ibis!

1. Was not asked when I checked in whether I would like breakfast. 2. Was not informed that I needed to pay for parking when I checked in. It was only because I met the parking attendant after checking in that I was reminded. I may have ended up with a ticket otherwise. 3. Invoice could not be printed out at check-in so I gave my email for it to be sent to. I'm still waiting for it. 4. Carpets in the room 147 I was in are filthy. Didn't dare walk bare foot in there.

« Worse Ibis stayed in wish to complain. »

We have stayed at many Ibis hotels and indeed joined the membership / loyalty scheme. However this experience could have put us off. Firstly the good bits. It was easy to find and the staff were polite, friendly and honest. On arrival we were offered ground or first floor. From there it went downhill. We could ignore the building site (although something on website would be good) the construction site next door is outside your control. However it got worse. 1. As we entered the room there was a musty smell so we opened the windows (to sound of building site.) 2. The carpets were really dirty and need a good wash or more likely replacement. We decided for one night and going to Ashow a few hours later to get by. However. 3. The toilet cistern did not did not refill easily meaning staying in the bathroom to endlessly flush. Then at night as it took it seemed all night to refill it sounded like the building site was in the bathroom. 4. The power from the shower was so low we gave up and had a bath, however, again next morning with the shower 5. Not only was the power / pressure so low the taps adjustment made regulating the temperature a choice of scolded or cold. 6. Then the bath plug did not rise enough to let water out meaning the bath took 15 minutes to empty. 7. Then breakfast. The picture provided with guacamole, fresh bread etc was deceptive. Bread was stale, no guacamole, the cooked food ran out at 9am, although in fairness when I complained more was cooked. However, bacon, hash browns and beans should not run out (and customers need asking for more and waiting) at 9am for breakfast ending at 10. 8. Finally the angry part was the cost. We are part of the loyalty scheme with small discount. However, we booked on line including for breakfast and paid nearly £9 each for an awful breakfast to find at the hotel it is advertised at £5.95. One man arriving and booking at the same time we did ended paying less than a pre-booked loyalty customer. And here is the worse part. As we left we spoke to the helpful and honest man on the desk and listed (some) of the problems. He apologised and said, "YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ROOM"! Overall the experience was off putting and really disappointing and breakfast and the cost we paid could out us off using Ibis in the future.
