« The location and room was good overall and staff were friendly and helpful. »

The room was generally comfortable and the breakfast buffet was varied. The shower had very low pressure which made showering a bit tricky.

It was brilliant location very near to the 02 academy which was the reason for our stay. Brilliant reception and food. The only downside was our room had just been decorated and smelt strong paint. So we had to sleep with the window open and had blocked noses and headache from the smell.

I didn’t spend much time in the room as I arrived late and left early. Bed was comfy but hotel was noisy. Toilet also didn’t flush, which I didn’t notice until i got back to my room from a gig around 1am. Shower was cold and awful. Was an average stay but won’t be returning.

« Noisy and in need of a bit of a facelift »

I won't be staying in this Ibis again - I'll pick another one in Birmingham the next time I am up on business. Staff were pleasant - breakfast was tasty, but the "neighbours" were less than quiet. The building site next door wasn't a problem as there was no work at night, but people in neighbouring rooms were very noisy at 2.30am - talking and playing music loudly. The noise pollution from the street wasn't great either. Had I realised that your hotel was more "motel style" than a hotel I would probably have booked a room elsewhere. The room had been recently decorated, but only had the one electric heater which warmed the air. The bathroom was quite cold as a result, as was the floor of the room. The exterior really needs some attention. It was kept reasonably well swept of debris, but the stairs and passageways were not particularly clean. I appreciate its in an urban setting and is out of doors - but it does need a some loving care. I was also a little disappointed that having booked ahead on the website and paid just short of £80 in advance that the display outside showed rooms available at £46. Whilst I was away on business and am charging the cost back to my employer, I am mindful of costs because I work for a Not for Profit charitable organisation.

Nice room, no soap in shower. Late evening menu choices limited for a vegetarion (no pizzas), so had to go out late to eat.

« Despite first impressions, room was nice and location works well. »

Appreciate their was still some refurbishment taking place, however the walk ways etc could still do with work to smarten them up. The room décor was good although it lacked any water pressure. Having reported it in the evening I was told it had been sorted, despite the obvious it hadn't.. When I reported it again upon check-out I was informed they were awaiting new pumps that feed the upper floors. Overall satisfied but could be better.

« Average at best, I won't hurry to return. »

Decidedly average hotel. Food was average, accommodation was average, not bad but not exceptional either (I had a recently refurbished room.) The rooms are external and because I arrived after dark it was difficult to find, this was due to the dark paths and walkways to get from the car park to the roadside of the accommodation block. On closer inspection I eventually found a sign telling me my room no. was down a pitch black corridor between the two blocks, if I hadn't had a torch I would have had to return to reception to ask. In fact if I hadn't had a torch I would have refused to walk through the darkness to get to my room. The hotel is undergoing refurbishments but no-one seems to have considered the safety of guests getting to their rooms! Install some LED lighting it will improve the place hugely and cost very little to run! And after all of that I had to ring the hotel to get my receipt emailed to me, despite being told it would be sent automatically. Overall it was an OK hotel, there are a lot worse but there are a lot better too.

« Room not ready, evening food selection was poor and not eveerything available, a lot of faults. »

on arrival between approximately 18:30 - 18:45 we could see workmen working on the rooms, we had chosen the Hotel as it had parking ,how ever it was not clear that this was at an additional charge, had we known then we would have chosen a hotel closer to where we needed to be and just paid for parking. on arrival our rooms were not ready, they were still being checked, even though we had booked weeks in advance. We were offered a complementary drink which was nice, however when we eventually got our rooms my colleagues did not lock. With the hotel being situated in a high gated environment we were not filled with confidence to wander so we stayed on site for our evening meal. Two of us order the same meal, only to be told that there was only enough for 1 of us to have it, the selection was very limited. Throughout the evening we overheard numerous other guests discussing issues they were also having with their rooms. Although there were workmen there when we arrived, when we needed the room looking at there was no maintenance on site. My colleague was offered to go to another hotel on her own, which I didn't feel comfortable letting happen. I have to point out however throughout the whole evening if it had not been for "Molly" the situation might have been even worse. She seemed to be the only person who was being proactive in sorting the matters out, not only for us but for the other guests too. On a positive note I thought Breakfast was lovely, hot and fresh, which confused me as to why the evening meal selection was so atrocious. Molly I feel needs to be Rewarded in some way or at least recognised for her hard work and diligence.

I'd read other reviews before booking and knew that an office block is being built behind the hotel and hotel rooms are being refurbished. As it happens, neither bothered me and there was little noise. I don't drive so hadn't stayed in a motel before - the room was fine, though a bit basic but I find the heater a bit problematic and couldn't see any instructions. I got it to a reasonable temperature but on a cold night, a bit higher would have been good. Service at reception/bar/restaurant was all great and the breakfast was good. It's not far on foot from New St station and I'd recommend going via Smallbrook Queensway and crossing on the level (there are lights) at Holloway Circus. It's not a great walk - Bristol St is pretty run down - and a taxi is probably a good idea, especially after dark. Overall, it was fine at a very good price and I would stay there again if a smilar price was on offer.

The room was chalet type which is not an issue, yet there was a massive gap in the doorframe letting in cold and damp air. The heater was locked at 16c and we do not think the heat was meeting this level. Under the bed was a thick layer of dirt and dust. We spend over 45 nights globally in Ibis, Ibis Styles and Novotel hotels. This was by far the worst experienced.

I have stayed here several times and am usually happy with the standard of accommodation,however on this occasion whilst I was initially very impressed with the recent renovation that was soon dashed by the extremely poor shower.I noted that the shower fitting was an extremely good quality make ‘ grohe’ but this was let down by the poor water pressure when showering.There is no alternative to having a shower as there is no bath.I found myself leaning directly against the wall and sitting on the shower tray to try and get a proper wash.After my efforts I returned to a bedroom which was quite cold and a heater which did not appear to be regulated.On the first night of my stay I was wakened by the cold and I could not get the heater on.On the second night I had discovered a portable blow heater in the wardrobe which I switched on to heat the room which is not ideal.This will not put me off booking here again but it really does need looked at.I was staying in room 142.Regards Brian

The hotel is clean and very well positioned for the centre of Birmingham. £5 overnight parking on site in a secure compound is well worth it. Very comfortable bedding. Our room recently refurbised - and there's work going on elsewhere. Staff at reception very friendly.

« An awful Hotel that should be removed from our listings »

was surrounded by high fencing as in a very unsafe area so could not go out for food. Rooms wasn't ready at 7pm had to wait, when I went to room the door did not lock and I was told that they will give me cash and I could find another hotel. to get to your room you had to walk outside with no lighting at all. I slept with chair against door. The lady working called Molly was fantastic and tried her very best but this hotel was terrible and I was just fortunate that I had colleagues saying in to room next to me. I think this should be removed from our listings

The room itself was perfectly nice, but as a single women, being put in a ground floor motel-style room was really uncomfortable. The lock was not robust. The radiator was impossible to control - I had to download a manual from the internet to work out how to turn it on. The toilet didn't flush properly. The walkway on the side of the building overlooking to room was very noisy. I was told it was newly refurbished, so these may be teething problems. However the breakfast was fabulous, and it was a convenient location.
