« Not quite what I expected »

The staff were friendly and helpful but the hotel looked and felt more like a youth hostel than a hotel. The restaurant only served pizza and snacks, so if you want a decent meal you have to go out for it. The beds and pillows were very hard, apparently by design but the room was clean and a reasonable size.We were given a cash reward for opting to have our rooms left unservised, which could be redeemed the bar or restaurant. It was in a great position just off the Royal Mile near the castle and overall not too bad. If your looking for a real "hotel" experience however, in my opinion, this is not it.

The location was perfect with easy access to the Royal Mile. An added plus is the friendly, attentive staff who always greeted guests with a smile and genuinely welcoming attitude. The rooms appear to have been recently remodeled and were comfortable for a five-night stay.

The team - Mara, Craig, Dean etc always made eye contact & said hi as we walked in. They were helpful with our queries. The rooms were a bit squishy, but it was compensated by the lounge area down stairs. I had to use the corridors for stretching!

I sent below message on 06 Jan and have yet to receive a response: "Overall, my experience with this stay was disappointing for a number of reasons: 1. Several days before I arrived, I got an email from Accor/Ibis with an offer to check in early. I tried to check-in online at least 10 times over two days and across multiple devices and browsers. Check-in failed each time and I was not given a reason for failure. 2. I called into the customer service twice, neither call was productive. The first time, the person I spoke with didn't seem to understand what I was asking. I didn't feel comfortable with his answer, so I hung up and called back. I got a different representative and he told me he would need to transfer me to a different department. There was no transfer; instead, my call was completely disconnected. 3. Although I paid for early check-in at 0900, when I arrived at the hotel circa 0830, I was told my room wouldn't be available until after 1400. I reminded the person who was helping me I'd paid for early check-in. He told me he saw there was "a note in my file," but that the hotel couldn't guarantee early check-in. He offered me nothing else until I insisted that I should at least get a refund on the money I paid to check in early. He said he would have to talk to someone about the issue. He left, and I never saw that man again. Instead, roughly 20 minutes later, a woman approached me and told me my room was ready. I was confused by the turn in situation. 4. When I got to my room, I immediately noticed the duvet cover on my bed was dirty. It had at least two dark red/brown stains on it. I called down to reception to inform of the situation. To their credit, they sent housekeeping immediately. A man came to my room to inspect the duvet and noted that it was indeed dirty. He removed it, left the room and came back minutes later with a new duvet. The new duvet also had a stain, albeit slight. I didn't feel like complaining again. So, I slept w/o the duvet and blanket during my stay. 5. My room did not come with a remote control for the TV. Days into my reservation, I asked the front desk staff for a remote. One of the representatives told me he went to check in a different room to see if there was a remote he could give me and told me there wasn't one there either. Eventually, they found a remote for me, but the fact that at least two of the hotel's rooms weren't supplied correctly doesn't speak highly. "

The hotel has been recently renovated, the room was clean and fresh, with enough space for us. The location is also very convenient. Nice and welcoming staff. Very good breakfast selection.

Great location for your stay. This was convenient to the old town and the central area and museum. Basic rooms but comfortable and great friendly staff. Close to several day tours meeting points so very good as a base to explore. Good choice for one or more travelers.

Lovely hotel in a great location right in the centre of the old town. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a great selection of facilities available 24 hours a day. The rims were lovely however unfortunately we had an internally facing one which was very hot, but we have been since told this is an issue they are currently resolving.

Was placed in a very noisy street facing room initially and got no sleep on first night. Had asked twin beds be far apart as friend had viral bronchitis - was mocked for this request upon arrival. Asked to switch rooms to a quieter option. Girl I spoke to (Chelsea) seemed to be ok with this, I stepped away, then heard her complaining to her colleague that it was “only two more nights” (ie I was making a fuss). Her colleague, Craig, then mentioned something about me being VIP (I’m a platinum accor member) upon which Chelsea said “well she’s not VIP to me”... they did not realise I was still close by and could hear them. Made me feel very unwelcome. I got zero recognition of my loyalty upon arrival (no welcome drink, nothing) and got made to feel like some pest despite what I thought were reasonable, polite requests.
