The most comfortable bed I have slept in. Great choice of foods for Breakfast. Easy walk into the city took10 to 15 minutes. Good selection of teas and coffees in room. Expansive view of hills and old part of city from our room on 6th floor. Quiet, clean and modern.

Recent stay was more pleasurable than previous. Received a complimentary upgrade because of previous experience. This occurred in the early stages post upgrade/refurbishment. Our breakfast chef was less than desirable. We entered the restaurant just after 10:30 and there were very limited hot food options available. I queried with the waite staff, requesting hot food options as most offerings were either finished or dry and visually uneatable. Initially the Chef refused to provide anymore hot food as it was 20 mins to end of breakfast service. Being witness to this assertive debate, I approached the wait staff and reiterated that unless we were to receive a discounted charge, we were entitled to all offerings regardless of time. The Chef was still adamant until another diner approached the pass and instructed the Chef to provide hot food as requested. This diner was obviously a Senior member of staff. Overall stay was good.

We had a room upgrade to the top floor. Pleasant views with a good bed and generous size room. Nice walk in shower. The hotel is a very good location for exploring Wellington. Not a huge walk to town easy access to the motorway and close to the Dominion museum. Great breakfast. Carparking is valet and not cheap but all the central hotels are the same.

The Grand Mercure Hotel in Wellington is ideally located. The room was of a high standard and excellent view of Wellington. The disappointing thing about the hotel, is that it is their policy not to service rooms where guests stay more than one night until after 3.30pm. In our case, they came around at 5.40pm Upon questioning the lateness, the above explanation was given.

We booked 2 separate nights and on both bookings I requested a higher level of the Hotel and on both occasions our request was granted. Breakfast was just a little disappointing with some of the food not served hot - could have been that the the serving dish didn't have a lid like the other food on offer. Still not a good variety of vegetarian food on offer.

I had to come to the city last minute due to a business meeting the next morning. Booked in the afternoon and on arrival I was notified I had been given a room upgrade. The staff were friendly and personable, the room was immaculate and the check out was a very simple process. Will happily book again!

Beginning at the very friendly welcome from the concierge and the front desk, everything was just as expected - perfect. The food in the Forage restaurant was also as expected - top notch. The meeting room was set up exactly as requested.

Stayed two nights. Easy walk into town down Cuba Street. Decent buffet breakfast with a lovely view across the city. Blackout curtains but single glazed windows so not perfectly silent but nicely dark. Good reception service and we didn't get to try it but there's a 12m lap pool.

Great service. Luxe decor. Ample milk for coffee on the bar fridge. Usually portions and I love my coffee and like extra milk so the small 150ml bottle is great. Room service was very quick and enjoyable after a long flight and early am check in

The hotel was very nice and the people were very friendly and helpful. Room was very small but modern and clean. Was just what we needed for the 1 night we were staying but wouldn't want to stay too long as there is no room. My biggest disappointment was there was no air conditioning as what was there was just blowing warm air. It is advertised as having air conditioning which i would say was incorrect. It was very hot that night. We got a $1 breakfast when we booked which was very nice.

Stayed here overnight. Appears renovated? Luxurious, modern look. Received a txt that morning to say room was ready. Arrived to be told the room was still "dirty" (poor choice of words) and would I like to "go for a walk into town and come back later ?". I said no. Informed them of the txt and suggested they find a room that was ready. With assistance from another staff member same done. The room was smallish, but lovely and plush. Received complimentary drinks voucher. Visited the bar. Fantastic view of the city. Again luxurious decor and feel. Barman extremely charming. Buffet breakfast the next day for $1. Special price at the time. Magnificent. Attractive staff. Some improvement in attention to detail required. Removing used dishes in a timely manner. I placed them on another table. The tables are small and things need to be removed promptly. Again ... fabulous views.

Somewhat disappointed with the hotel but the staff were great and did their best to help if everyday possible. I had contacted the hotel 2 days before arrival to discuss wheelchair access and rooms for disable guests but this was not passed on to the department as promised

So near and yet so far. I booked this hotel as it had a swimming pool - except it didn't as it was being refurbished as I was told on arrival. I booked my stay of four nights as three separate consecutive bookings as travel plans change and my father and his gf were coming from the UK to join me on the final night. The "two rooms on the final night" was confirmed at check-in and re-confirmed the next day but still didn't stop the three phone calls to interrupt my business trip just to make certain that I hadn't made an error. Not to worry if I did; I know from previous experience with the Grand Mercure that you'd be lucky to receive a refund even if your house fell down. The restaurant was excellent and the service there very good indeed but the credit card machine was struggling with the WiFi - this led to an impression that I'd been double charged as some bills went onto the room and others onto the credit card even although I'd understood all eventually got through on the CC. One lift was out of service during my entire stay. One night, I stood in another lift for around two minutes with it going no-where before the doors opened again; I reported this and was advised I needed to press the button - Really? I didn't realise you had to press the button and the lift couldn't read my mind. Finally, my father and I witnessed a tradesman reverse his trailer into a car in the hotel car park and took photos of this and took them to the reception. A disinterested "thank-you sir" .... no request for the photos, no follow-up; I've no idea if the matter was resolved or not. I doubt I'll be back - for all the restaurant and the service there were excellent, the rest of the service experience was dreadful and you can do far better for less money elsewhere in Wellington.

The so called Grand Mercure is not grand at all. On arrival the expected facilities including swimming pool , sauna and fitness room were not available despite paying for these facilities and them also being clearly available in the room directory. When questioned the front desk asked if I would like free drink to make up for it!! The room was adequate but nothing spectacular. The following morning the so called excellent buffet breakfast was limited and basically awful, not a tomato, mushroom or baked bean in sight just some powdered eggs, bacon and waffles! This IS NOT a four and half star hotel by any stretch of the imagination.

This is stated on our booking site but I agree that we can always do more to ensure our guests are well informed. It will be open in the next two weeks you will be happy to know. Very Disappointed. Had booked a room with 2 beds, on arriving at 10.30pm discovered we were booked in a room with a double bed (two singles made up together as double). On waiting for housekeeping to come and re-make/split the beds I went to make a cup of tea to find both the cups were filthy with dregs in both cups. I was beyond disgusted.
