The air conditioning was NOT up to hot days in my room or in the restaurant and bar. We were told it was being fixed and a fan was provided in the interim. The only thing that changed was that the weather cooled down and the aircon coped. In all other respects (except for the very poor choice of nibbles in the minibar) the experience was satisfactory.

« Great new year trip »

Really enjoyed our stay in the Grand Mercure in Wellington. The staff were really friendly & helpful. The room was really comfortable & clean with a great view of the city. We were really delighted with our room upgrade as we were on our honeymoon. We enjoyed both dinner & breakfast in the restaurant, food & service was top class. The lift is a very handy way to skip some of the hilly streets of the city! Staff also booked us a taxi to the ferry for early New Years morning & all was very efficient. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel, we booked at very short notice and the staff were very accomodating in booking over the phone about 10 mins before our arrival. Staff pointed out local land marks and quickest way to get to the city. We were asked if we wanted to pay $30 for "secure" parking, which we agreed to, only we felt extremely decieved when we went out the back to find the hotel had a car park for free which would have been perfectly suffice.

In regards to the feedback on car park, yes its tough to get a car park around the hotel & the back car park space available is not free, it is our hotel car park area where we park heavy trucks & cars. we charge $30 for it as well. Great stay overall. Service at reception and restaurant was excellent. Only issue was both days the bed was made quite poorly, with the bottom sheet not tucked in at the pillow end of the bed (loose beneath the pillows). This meant the sheet came loose very easily

So we've never done a bad review before as we do understand things do go wrong however thought this deserved one. We booked and paid for a room with harbour views - there was a little tiny slither you could see in the corner of the window - when we spoke to management they advised there is no real harbour view from any of the rooms as such (false advertising). When we first arrived and ordered cocktails off the menu from the bar they weren't made correctly - advised was a new staff member. Another night we ordered drinks to our room, waited 30min then called again only to find they didn't take our room number - advised again it was a new staff member - we were then given the wrong order and also charged for the drinks until we complained the next day. When our room was made up they provided shampoo instead of body wash and the hand towels smelt like fish. We are patient as we are personally hired by businesses that are in trouble or not up to scratch however as we travel a lot, including 3rd world countries and receive more from those places we wouldn't stay here again or recommend it. We just want what we pay for and the false room description set the scene for the stay. On a positive, the food was perfect from the on site restaurant - that is something that doesn't need to change.

We required some assistance to organise a shuttle for an early flight. The service staff was more than happy to organise this for us. Everything else was great. Enjoyed the gym and pool as well.

« The worst 3 nights sleep I’ve had in a while »

The room wasnt what we expected. We booked a “deluxe” room which looked like a standard room. The pictures on the website of a deluxe room were very misleading as they showed a couch which our room didn’t have. It was ridiculously hot as the air con didn’t seem to work so was the worst 3 nights sleep I’ve had in a very long time. On night 2 the toilet blocked so we rang for a plunger which took almost an hour to come to the room. We had to ring 3 times to ask for this and were told they were very busy so had to wait. I explained we needed to use the toilet and they were not accommodating at all. Finally when the plunger arrived it was handed to me and I was told to bring it back straight away after use! I very embarrassingly took it downstairs to hand it back shortly after. About an hour later the phone rang in the room as someone was rudely asking for the plunger back! I explained I had already taken it back! On day 3 our room wasn’t serviced until 5:30pm, this is far too late.

« Okay, it was new years eve »

We have booked a nice hotel in Wellington hoping to spend New Year’s Eve in your nice restaurant facing the seashore. I tried to call you five times on 31.12. In the morning in order to book a table for 2. Nobody was able to connect me with the restaurant-and as I later saw, the restaurant is just 30 meters from the reception!! I am still waiting for your call back and U never got an answer of my mail from 31.12.. Unsatisfactory and unprofessional. The room was quite nice. The pool water was milky and I didn’t dare to use your pool. Although it was the other reason for me to book your hotel. The Continental breakfast was too expensive, but the view was nice.
