We booked at short notice as it was for a funeral. We arrived from Auckland at tea time. We were greeted by very friendly staff. Efficient check in. Car valet parked. Compliment drink in the bar. Car always bought up immediately it was requested. Fresh bottle of water each morning in the car. The rooms are decorated beautifully. Great stay, good on Grand Mecure Highly recommended.

The Grand Mercure on The Terrace is a nice business-quality hotel that we found to be a great base for exploring Wellington. It's an easy walk down the hill to most of the city attractions and to the Cuba Street restaurant precinct.

Not quite as good as in the past

We have been regular patrons of Grand Mercure in Wellington, having stayed here about 15 times in the last three years and each time it has been absolutely impeccable - except for this occasion which is the first time we have had any cause to be even mildly critical. We usually get a complimentary upgrade but this time we didn't (we appreciate this will only happen if an upgrade room is available). There is normally a small welcome platter in the room together with a greeting card, but this arrived a couple of hours after we booked in (I had already checked in online the night prior to our arrival, so our arrival time should not have been a surprise). And there was a lot of ambient noise from neighbouring rooms and also from adjacent properties. None of these matters are "biggies" but were sufficient in the aggregate for us to remark on them to each other. Everyone has a "bad hair day"; let's hope next time everything is back up to the customary high standard.

We enjoyed a very comfortable night.

Greeted by friendly people at the front desk. Jackson was particularly helpful in making us feel welcome. We are not regular hotel users so needed extra instructions which were willingly given without making us feel stupid. Wonderful meal. Plenty of it and beautifully cooked and presented. Comfortable bed.

Only fair, nothing better than what would be expected for the price paid. Went to have a drink at the hotel bar one night only to find that the bar was shut, this was around 10pm. Location compared to central Wellington is not ideal

Lovely 1 night stay at Grand Mercure Wellington with city view! We really enjoyed ourselves. Things could improve will be the following: - Hire more attentive staffs during breakfast hours. we had to wait a good about 5 mins at the bar. All of your staffs were inside the kitchen. I believe they might be munching some food. - We weren't told there was a Ala carte option till we saw the menu over at the buffet spread. - We weren't offered coffee / tea at all. I had to approach one of your staff to ask for one. Lastly, NZD$30 for an overnight parking is ridiculous to pay for loyalty members like myself.

Had a great stay, but quite a major disappointment was not having Sky Movies. Sure it has been there in past. Don't want this comment posted, but wanted to let the management know, that it seems a very strange thing to cut back on. Loved everything else about the hotel, especially the cookies. Also very strange that this survey, doesn't allow me to comment about this in another section.
