« Closing for renovation - poor service, 0 Accor Platinum recognition »

The hotel is closing for renovations and that was not indicated on the website ot when booking. Because of closing, the Exec Lounge does not work. No recognition of the Platinum status - no upgrade, no drink voucher offered (had to ask myself - the response was - "we do not have any more printed vouchers"...), no written welcome note from the manager/welcome gift as in all Accor properties. I understand the hotel is closing for renovation but that does not mean rules how Platinum benefits can be completely ignored. Unprofessional reception staff (Natasha). I understand the Lounge was closed but there should be a solution - clients informed in advance (I would have booked another hotel as I had chosen Sofitel because I expected benefits going with my loyalty card) or provided with an alternative. I had a similar situation of a Lounge closure in Pullman and that was dealt with very professionally offering complimentary dinner, breakfast and minibar. I explained to the manager my expectations were not met and as "compensation" I was offered a drink in the bar which I was supposed to get as Platinum member anyway and "free breakfast" which I would have received as well as snacks, drinks in the Lounge. Breakfast choice was below Sofitel standard though restaurant staff was nice and helpful. The hotel in in a perfect location, 2 pools are nice but no service by the pool - I stayed there for over an hour and have not seen any staff to order drinks. A customer pays Sofitel rates and expects certain level and when one does not get Sofitel standard service which is rather disapointing.

« Good, could be great »

The property is great, comfortable rooms, great location, good amenities... That is my second visit to this property and this time the service was not so great, even if it was only for overnight stay, so I have not had many contacts within the staff members, still that could be better. Check-in did not recognize me as Accor Platinum member, so I have not received the welcome drink or was invited to the Millesime Lounge. Ok, it was late night and the lounge was about to close... Another improvement could be in the Vallet Parking, as took me 10/15 minutes to have my car returned. Anyway, I really like the location, the facilities, the rooms, the internet access and staff overall. Let me see next time.

The hotel is in an excellent position and our balcony had a superb view of the whole of Copacabana Beach. The staff were excellent and very helpful. They were able to give us an early check in which was very welcome.

Fabulous hotel and service. Prime location and excellent staff!! The views from the club room across Copacabana beach stunning and food was beautiful!! We had a suite on the top floor and the room was spacious and clean. Bed was so comfortable!!

Very centrally located, bar restaurant and external pool are perfect Junior suite and over (club millesime or not) with sea view are incredible; Highly priced though (but probably the only address of such quality with the even more expensive hotel fasano)

Great hotel and great location right between Copacabana and Ipenema. The room had a great view, the staff were friendly. Breakfast outside on the terrace was wonderful. The Horse's Neck bar is the perfect sun downer location.

« As a Platinum member I was greatly disappointed »

Room was musty, failed to upgrade room and made no knowledge of the club room and failed to supply welcome drink!!!! With only weeks till the Olympics they would need to pick their game up, definitely not Sofitel standard in my eyes. I have never had a negative review on any other Sofitel but in this case it's needed.

« Good and bad on Copacabana »

This was the usual mixed bag of good and bad in the Rio Sofitel. The breakfast location is second to none as is the food and coffee. The room was a good size and the balcony and view were very welcome. But the fixtures and fitting and decor are still fading and at times annoying (for example, the aircon sensor on the balcony was very improvised and gave up on the last day). Staff were also mixed - some very attentive, others seemed less interested. With normal Sofitel standards this hotel would be irresistible!

Ideally situated on the beachfront, between the iconic Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Enjoy breakfast and other meals at the Atlantis restaurant on the first floor, with stunning views of Copacabana and the famous Sugarloaf mountain - what a way to start each day! And get a sea-facing room no X13-X19 on the higher floors to bask in the same view from your own balcony. The hotel is currently being refurbished for the Olympics and so there is occasional noise, moving of furniture, and some facilities have been temporarily relocated eg the gym - but there is no real disruption or problem. Overall service is very good, and the staff were very helpful giving advice, arranging tours etc for the short time I was in town on my first ever visit. I will certainly stay here again on my next visit!

Sofitel is located between Copacabana and Ipanema beach, with a wonderful view and very friendly staff. Rooms are very confortable and breakfast is really good. Thanks for Mr Anderson and Sidnei that work in the pool bar. You smile every morning and make me feel at home. On Sunday its a wonderful brunch. Enjoy! 😃

View is spectacular, location is great and the staff was friendly. The check-in staff was not as friendly but that may be due to the fact I was with a group of 40. Not sure if this was due to renovations for the Olympics and neglect of the details but the rooms were subpar. There were no towel hooks in the bathroom, luke warm water and spotty air conditioning. My friends had other issues as well with their rooms.

This is supposed to be a Luxury Hotel, Five Stars? I stayed here over two years ago and the quality, customer service and condition of the hotels has deteriorated 20 years worth. I booked Club Millésime for three reasons. I was celebrating my birthday and retirement, A friend was joining me for 5 of the 7 nights and added breakfast which is served in a room and deck on top of the hotel. They managed not to ruin the view of Dois Irmaos and Christ the Redeemer. The room #707 had a broken sliding glass door handle and the entry door which apparently had be shattered and not properly repaired was weak at best but that didn't seem to phase anyone when I reported it and NO ONE ever got back to me on what if anything they would do. They did NOTHING. Someone leaning heavily on the door would have fallen into the room. The hotel manager did send tea and munchies as a welcome back and they did deliver a small cake and split of champagne on my birthday, both very nice touches but I'd rather consistent quality service purported in their advertising. Stay AWAY from the ATLANTIS restaurant on the 1st floor. They also serve the two pool areas. Despite having "Kettle One" vodka listed on their menu they could seem to understand what it was. I also expect 5 star hotels to have a FULL complement of liquor. They don't even come close. they also didn't seem to have two items I ordered on the menu. Came back twice with the good news. The service is so slow as to not exist and I would understand if there place were packed but there was only one other table in use during my 2 visits.

I had really bad experience checking in and checking out - A lot of the mistakes from reception team and when I pointed it out they got so angry and the fake smiling face suddenly diapers. I'm not planning to stay again.

« Great Location lacking maintenance »

The rooms are small but clean. The beds are comfortable and you have a choice of ten pillow types from the pillow menu. The rooms smell of mildew which may be unavoidable due to the humidity in Rio. The HVAC system is old and was extremely loud. The toilet would not flush several times and the faucet handle needed maintenance. The bed reading light was out but they did not repair. The door to outside was extremely hard to slide open even after they greased it. The service was great when we needed something they came right away. The breakfast included was unbelievable. You also can't beat the location and view.

« Wonderful stay - great location and above all superb staff »

This was our third stay and it just gets better each time. The location of the hotel is excellent as is the accommodation and views - we had a full view of Copacabana and Sugar Loaf Mountain. We again had the benefit of the Club Milisesmmie lounge which is superb. What makes it so are the wonderful staff who are only to pleased to help you and welcome after a long day. It is especially nice to see familiar faces after many years who genuinely recognise you and endeavour to help you. I note that various review mention noise within the hotel - however this is from construction at a neighbouring building - rooms are being renovated within the hotel but we could not hear any noise from within. I would really recommend this hotel - it has professional approach, balanced with a genuinely warm welcome from its many staff members.

Great Service. Employees are fantastic. Rooms are fine but not great. Showers need to be repaired end adjusted. Breakfast people very cordial. Manager does a great job. Again, check your showers. Overall experience very nice.

« Good food, great view, nice balcony »

Not the best Sofitel I have been to, however, because the hotel is old and a bit run down, needs renovation. Also pool is not ideal: one is small close to restaurant and the other is bigger, but not deep at all, and surrounded by buildings. One nice point: it is on the end of Copacabana making access to Ipanema and Leblon really easy.

« Great Position »

Arrival was reasonable. We were to be picked up at the cruise terminal but no car arrived asked at the front desk but still have had no reply why it did not happen. Room was not ready but we were there at around 10.30am they tried to get the room as soon as possible. The building is tired and does need renovations however, still feel the room and everything was good. One lady on the concierge desk was never friendly (Jan 5 th and 6th) never helpful, however every where else in the hotel the staff always tried to be accommodating and helpful, food average for price. However had a great stay great location great views would recommend friends to stay.

« Our stay at Sofitel Copacabana »

This was a great experience! . We had a great room with view of Copacabana Beach, and service was exemplary. Upgrade to Club Millesime for a 16 night stay was the icing on the cake, with fantastic attention from staff there as well....Villareana, Alex, Romalo, Renato, Flavia and Enzaldo. Our room was serviced flexibly to fit in with our daily schedule by Carla, and Augustoand Natalie in the 'Club' sorted tours and queries seamlessly. We were ther long enough to observe that the staff were all responsive and caring. Unreservedly recommend and we hope to return there, and to Sofitel Heathrow.
