It took more than 3 hours to check in even I checked in after 2 pm. The pool should be renovated. For breakfast, some station was out of service since 9 am.

Great staff and great room. Also I must say the breakfast has improved a lot from last year. Last year the restaurant seemed quite old not kept up so I did not recommend to include breakfast to my friends when booking. This time very nice and the Egg Station was superb. They rooms are always nice and the lobby is beautiful.

Room was great (Room 1105) as in everything was clean and worked well. Service to the room was very good and timely. Two things that came up I was a little surprised how handled. Both with the Front Desk. 1) The morning we were leaving, my wife had an extended family death so as in Thai custom, something is left to help the family with expenses. In this case, we were going to leave a couple thousand Baht to help with minor expenses. We asked if we would put the money in an envelope and have a family member pick it up later that day as our flight was soon after we found out about the death. Of course we would give the name and put it on the envelope and the family member would have to show ID to get the envelope. The answer the Front Desk gave was "NO, WE CAN'T BE HELP RESPONSIBLE"...... HUH? This completely implies that they have trust issues with their staff? Keep in mind this is considered a 5 Star Hotel and at least one of the premiere Hotels in Khon Kaen! We stay here every year at least one stay when we visit family so we are very familiar with this hotel and the brand. Very disappointing . . . . . 2) Next was when we asked about taxi costs to get to the airport. We were told that they had a shuttle for 120 baht per person. We asked how that compared to taking a normal taxi service and was told that it is the same price no matter who you book through or use. Of course this did not sound correct as the cost coming from the airport to the hotel was 30+% less. Not talking about a lot of money here but rather about attitude and truth along with good service. Just not a good feeling or experience with the front desk on this trip. Other than that, the service for the room, lobby bar and room were excellent and we will return unless we continue to have trust issues with the front desk. Take the Front desk issues out and I would rate 4.5-5 stars for the stay.

Even though the hotel can not be compared with what it was 20 years ago when it was still called Sofitel Ratcha Orchid and was the only real five star hotel in the wider area with excellent restaurant (European, Vietnamese, Chinese) and unbeatable promotions, it is still good value for the money and has the advantages of its central location and easy and safe car parking.

We were there during Songkran Festival. I have booked a room for 3 days but I sacrificed the third night since I knew that if I still be there I would have been torn. On the first night, 13-4-19, the music was so loud until around 1am. Although my first thought that it would be stopped at midnight. On the second night, around 1:30am I called and asked for changing a room. At first, she said there was no more room to offer and this was during a festival, she couldn’t do anything. 5-10 min later, the music got louder, I called again. A man came to offer me a room at the opposite side, however, the music was came from every direction so I told him that I would make a decision later in the morning. Since I hoped to get a better room, higher floor or different location,... In the morning of third day, the music came since 10am. 10am!!!! I called for a new room, however, she said she will check and call back. I waited for 10min. I called again. She said she will call me back in 5 min. However, my 5 min and her 5 min might be in difference universe. I have never got her call back even though 30 min pass. So we decided to go to Avani. I walked to front desk and ask for any update, however, no one noticed my case. I don’t think that it would be a standard to treat your customer. I repeated my story again, the manager said sorry. But nothing more. What I learn from staying here are They just say sorry but never mean it. They just listen and leave it since they never really want to improve or fix the problem. P.S. ear plug is not working since it is low quality. The hotel was so old.
