« The hotel was great but the bathroom in my room really needs upgrading and the room service could improve. »

I liked the hotel and the Clarke's bar and the service there; the receptionists were all excellent. However, the bathroom in my room is old and the shower toggle lever was stuck. Also, I has to to twice ask reception for replacement milk capsules. The reception was efficient and friendly in organizing this but the people who service the rooms in the day should be better.

« Very uncomfortable bed »

The hotel had a lovely atmosphere and amazing staff who were helpful, friendly and very professional. However, the whole stay was let down by the very uncomfortable bed and terrible pillows. I had trouble sleeping the three nights I was there and my neck and back got very sore over the duration of the stay. The standard of food supplied by the restaurant was also lower than what I would have expected. It was okay but none of the food I had was worth mentioning and all of the sweet and cakes etc that I tried were very dry.

Overall very satisfying. All the staff were really helpful and accomadating and it was also great to have parking directly out front. We normally stay at the Millenium in Rotorua but we will now stay at the Novotel when ever we visit. Thank you from our family and well done to the communication staff with the email/text updates, front desk, bar manager, chef and dining staff - excellent!

Good efficient check in. Clean room. Used the spa facilities:nice. Breakfast was nice. Although I did get bitten by something in the night (spider??) left me with a sore hand .

« Really great stay but your restaurant really lowers the standard of the experience »

Love the pool area, rooms were clean and comfy, great location, friendly and helpful check in/reception staff and cleaning staff. However, your chefs need a lesson in customer service - we had two chefs who were snarly and acted completely put out by having to cook us eggs and pancakes for breakfast and grill us a piece of salmon for dinner. Also, the standard of the food was somewhat average - all the deserts tasted the same - sugar with a topping on it, and I've never seen such badly rolled sushi. It felt a bit cheap given we paid nearly $100 for 2 adults and 2 small kids for dinner.

We had a lovely night with you. It was very close to Eat Street and the Lake which was cool. The Thermal pools were also excellent and a great relaxer at the end of an eventful day.

Your staff was lovely & friendly. Your common spaces were beautiful. I was impressed when I entered the lobby. Your rooms on the other hand badly need refurbishing. The beds are terrible & way too long to the ground. The rug in my room had pieces cut out of it & then stuck back in. Bathroom looks old & dated. No storage on the vaniety. The hair dryer looked to be about 10 years old. It's too bad because I had high expectations upon entering the lobby, but your property unfortunately does not live up to the standards I've come to expect from other Accor & Novotel properties in New Zealand. Your parking lot is horrible. Accidents waiting to happen. At this time I would not stay again or recommend you to my clients (I am a travel agent) which is a shame because your location is excellent. I hope you will take my comments to heart & refurbishment your rooms soon.

« Just mediocre »

First of all the photos online make this hotel look luxureous....its just mediocre sorry. Our pricey 2 night stay to have the lake view....the room was on the second floor, we got a great view of the roof in front of us and the tip of the lake....not worth the extra money. Secondly the breakfast included in our price, while the majority of the buffet was good the fresh cooked option was ridiculous....the cook was rarely behind her station....in the 2 days we couldnt order that option both times and im not going to stand there for 5 mins waiting for her/him to appear. We have stayed in Embassy suites in chicago, peoria, L.A and more and there fresh breaakfast is so streamlined with someone behind the plate at all times and they do omelettes, scrambled eggs etc and are quick and efficient....as with Park Royal in Parramatta...I suggest members of the hotel chain and cooks go there and pick up some tips....Also very unprofessional having paper room numbers on doors, whether its because of renovating or not maybe these should have been ordered before the old ones were taken off if there were ones!! I did like how the hotel is central to a lot of shops and activites and also some of the geothermal parks. Most of the employees at the counter were very helpfu and friendly too and apart from one day where the room wasnt cleaned till after 3 (and it could have been short staff etc etc) the hotel was clean and tidy altho the carpark is a nightmare to manuover a bigger car because its so tight and packed.

When checking out, they tried to check me out of someone else's room. Wasn't until I asked about the bond, and adding Minibar & Breakfast onto the room, did they realise. Overall was a good stay, but half the TV Channels couldn't be viewed (Screen went Green with no sound) - may have been weather conditions that caused this. Also, there was enough coffee and sugar for only 2½ drinks. Most people require 2 sugars per drink, so by having only 5 satchels, is really not enough. Finally the shower in my room had very little pressure. The following night, due to flight disruptions, Air NZ put us up in a back packers in Auckland, for about $60 per night - this room had more coffee and drink selection, a better shower, and no issues with TV Reception.

Staff excellent and always pleasant and helpful - five stars. BUT. Booked 'Superior Lake View' and view from sofa was the side of the building. Agreed to switch rooms. First disruption. Booked private pool 4 times. First time pool hadn't been filled. Second time great. Third time fruit but no knives/forks. Fourth time no fruit or water. Staff responded well, but detracted from the experience. Some confusion at checkout re charges in restaurant - clearly poor communucation/systems integration between front desk and restaurant re club entitlements. Really cannot understand at all the policy of 'no newspapers' - not even available to buy on the premises. 3 days on holiday in a hotel and no paper? Crazy. Also think its poor not having a microwave at least in a c$400 per night room. Small thing - rubbish bin in bathroom has no lid - doesn't look nice. As noted, in the main these are small things, but they DO detract from what was overall a good (but not great) experience. Your staff save you!!
