We had trouble at reception with our booking until I found the booking numbers and our rooms were not ready these were minor hiccups and our time went smoothly

Great value for money, great location and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The negative for us was that the restaurant did not cater very well for our family Gluten Free needs. We have two members with Coeliac. This was not a negative for the staff as they seemed to do the best they could. For example each morning the chef got us a bowl of GF cereal for my daughter. This was while he was on the egg station so we really appreciated the priority. However, we thought that some GF bread options and maybe a GF only Toaster would be a pretty easy solution that would take pressure off the staff? We are finding now that many restaurants and especially Hotel Restaurants have a good knowledge of GF Kitchen practice but found this not to be the case at Novotel Rotorua. Suggestion is just to cover the basics such as Breakfast options (Toast and Cereal without having to bother a chef) and for Lunch and Dinner the same. (Hot chips, Burgers, sandwiches, muffins etc in GF option made in an GF area in the Kitchen) Only other suggestion would be more staff at Breakfast. The place was crazy (school holidays I know) and the staff were really doing a great job but it was obvious they were stretched too far and the experience for us suffered as there were no plates, clean table etc etc at times. We mainly just felt for the staff once again as they were all so helpful even under pressure. We will definitely be back and look forward to maybe some of our feedback coming to life????

Great family hotel in the perfect location. Reception staff were attentive and friendly and went out of their way to make the kids holiday great. My son (4) became attached to a pen and paper from the room and then left them in a restaurant and staff were amazing giving him another and some spares. Breakfast was great, make your own juice perfect and a good variety. Only negative was way understaffed on Saturday so big waits on eggs, pancakes but it was the weekend in the middle of school holidays. Room great only down side was room wasn’t cleaned until very late afternoon and I had to ask one day. Pool was great, esp geothermal.

A great short family holiday

Perfectly suited to us and our young kids. Loved the hot pools and the kids were thrilled to be given a toy kiwi from reception which was such a nice surprise. Only things letting it down from a higher rating was that room wasn’t made up till we were out at dinner but our towels had been taken away so we have no towels in the afternoon and when we went to the pools there were no towels either so I needed to follow up on both room make up and pool towels. Plus with the breakfast buffet being busy the staff couldn’t keep up with replenishing the food.

However, I do apologies for the long wait to have your room serviced and also for the lack of towels. I have shared your comments with our housekeeping manager to look into as soon as possible. We enjoyed our stay, kids enjoyed the pool and the beds were super comfortable. Only negative is that our room wasn't serviced until 3pm which is annoying when you're out all day and then need to leave again until it's done. We didn't realise until the next morning (when husband could really do with a coffee!) that the tea and coffee supplies were not refilled.

Staff were friendly & helpful from the moment we checked in and that continued right through our stay. The room was clean & well appointed and breakfast was a delightful experience. Even though the restaurant was extremely busy the staff worked very hard to replenish food items and clear & set tables promptly so kudos to them. Special mention to the chef working the egg counter - he was very courteous even though he was flat tack! Love the fruit & vege juice machine - a really nice touch.

Very helpful, friendly reception and other staff. Rooms were clean and well presented. Lamp in one room was broken on arrival. Excellent views. I would have enjoyed the stay more if the restaurant had also provided and al acarte menu for breakfast and dinner. Consequently we ate out.

In the city centre with walking distance to lake and bar/restsurants. Staffs are very professional trained and friendly. Room is reasonable big but very clean, we felt comfortable to stay. Dinner buffet is a bit crowed as it's very popular, so it's highly recommended to book first, as it's crowed so the service was delay and not as good as the breakfast dinning.

We have now stayed twice in the top floor one bedroom apartment. The first time the carpet looked worn and had a few stains on it. We thought must be getting replaced shortly. We now stayed again approximately one year later and the carpet still has not changed and pretty average. This room is meant to be close to one of the better rooms you have but I feel isn’t presented that way. Even the hallway to the room seemed dirty.

Noise level from children in the restaurant was disturbing- also little children rushing about throughout the meal did not make for an enjoyable dining experience. The rest of our time at the Novotel was very pleasant.

Rooms were good, breakfast was solid, very nice gym, very good location. Nice natural spa and heated pool, kids had a hard time with the sulphur smell of the natural hot spring water. Staff was solid, not exceptional. Key card readers in elevator work poorly.

Although we enjoyed our stay with Novotel Rotorua we felt the pool rules need to be enforced and the buffet needs to have a la carte option on Saturday night.
